Now an upperclassman of the newly minted and rebuilt Milam Junior High, she, along with her best friend, Bailey Rains, encounter many new, wonderful and sometimes heartbreaking lessons in life. DeLaine's new life seems to begin almost the minute she walks into the doors of her school! Unbelievably, she is no longer invisible or it seems a peasant, in the school's social hierarchy! DeLaine is finding that being part of the popular crowd is attainable to someone like her. She can't believe her luck and how different her days as an 8th-grader compare to her miserable days as a 6th-grader. With her unusual year being a 7th-grader at Samson High School over, she is free to explore in a completely different group of friends than what she has ever known. Her new group of friends includes Jax Garrett as an upstanding member in their midst. DeLaine's crush from 6th-grade seems to confound her as much as Kevin Strong. Freshman, Kevin, is no longer in the same school with DeLaine and she feels his absence even with the attention she's receiving from cute cowboy, Jax! Her home life continues to be a roller coaster ride of insanity with occasional peeks of hope sprinkled throughout. Her step-mother, Clarice, seems to be happy with the caliber of friends DeLaine now has, which makes life a bit more bearable. She had hopes that since she would no longer be in the high school, her step-brother, Geoffrey would calm down as much as his mother has towards DeLaine, but he continues to run hot and cold no matter what she does in regards to his best friend Kevin Strong. DeLaine's life takes an unexpected twist half-way through her school year and she learns what true heartbreak is after receiving devastating news! How will she survive the huge changes coming into her life?

Book Please Don t Let Christianity Keep You from Christ

Download or read book Please Don t Let Christianity Keep You from Christ written by Shellan Marie and published by Balboa Press. This book was released on 2014-06-12 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As Rick removed his bandana, I got a clearer view of the man with half a face. It was not a face scarred from surgical intervention. It was not a face marred with cancerous sores or a few necrotic pits. Half of Ricks face was gone (from Chapter 22). I glanced up at a tree standing next to the van. I had a fleeting thought that the tree could pose a potential danger. Within a few minutes of the thought, the tree fell through the roof of the van, right in front of where I was sitting. The entire back of the van was smooshed (from Chapter 13). Shellan, this is Lou from Bleep Loan and Trust. Gib has not made a payment in over four months and if we dont collect soon, we will repo the truck. Just letting you know theres a good possibility we will come to you for the balance owed (from Chapter 6). I interrupted the lad at some point to tell him that if he thinks he is damned by God, he obviously does not know the truth of God. I tried to share about Gods unconditional love; how God does not leave or forsake us but we are the ones who turn away. The young man did not appear to hear my words as he continued to ramble about his plight. Somewhere in all his anxiety, he stated that he had prayed for God to send him an angelfrom how he was going to hell how successful he used to be with big money, houses, and nice cars but now only a bicycle could he call his own how he was going to hell how he was going to hell he was going to hell (from Chapter 20).

Today this solitary existence is heightened by the loneliness created by the modern world. Perhaps never before in the history of the world have so many people been forced to enter their personal loneliness because of circumstances. The monk enters these deserts voluntarily, whereas now the world is peopled by reluctant monks who have not chosen to be alone. Their loneliness could become communion. The key, of course, is to choose the desert. This book is an attempt to share with all desert dwellers everywhere, the committed and the reluctant, the fruits of what God has taught.

Book Oral and Literary Continuities in Modern Tibetan Literature

Download or read book Oral and Literary Continuities in Modern Tibetan Literature written by Lama Jabb and published by Lexington Books. This book was released on 2015-06-10 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first book-length study to appear in English on the literary, cultural and political roots of modern Tibetan literature. While existing scholarship on modern Tibetan writing takes the 1980s as its point of “birth” and presents this period as marking a “rupture” with traditional forms of literature, this book goes beyond such an interpretation by foregrounding instead the persistence of Tibet’s artistic past and oral traditions in the literary creativity of the present. While acknowledging the innovative features of modern Tibetan literary creation, it draws attention to the hitherto neglected aspects of continuity within the new. This study explores the endurance of genres, styles, concepts, techniques, symbolisms, and idioms derived from Tibet’s rich and diverse oral art forms and textual traditions. It reveals how Tibetan kāvya poetics, the mgur genre, life-writing, the Gesar epic and other modes of oral and literary compositions are referenced and adapted in novel ways within modern Tibetan poetry and fiction. It also brings to prominence the complex and fertile interplay between orality and the Tibetan literary text. Embracing a multidisciplinary approach drawing on theoretical insights in western literary theory and criticism, political studies, sociology, and anthropology, this research shows that, alongside literary and oral continuities, the Tibetan nation proves to be an inevitable attribute of modern Tibetan literature.

Book An Edo Anthology

Download or read book An Edo Anthology written by Sumie Jones and published by University of Hawaii Press. This book was released on 2013-02-28 with total page 534 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the eighteenth century, Edo (today’s Tokyo) became the world’s largest city, quickly surpassing London and Paris. Its rapidly expanding population and flourishing economy encouraged the development of a thriving popular culture. Innovative and ambitious young authors and artists soon began to look beyond the established categories of poetry, drama, and prose, banding together to invent completely new literary forms that focused on the fun and charm of Edo. Their writings were sometimes witty, wild, and bawdy, and other times sensitive, wise, and polished. Now some of these high spirited works, celebrating the rapid changes, extraordinary events, and scandalous news of the day, have been collected in an accessible volume highlighting the city life of Edo. Edo’s urban consumers demanded visual presentations and performances in all genres. Novelties such as books with text and art on the same page were highly sought after, as were kabuki plays and the polychrome prints that often shared the same themes, characters, and even jokes. Popular interest in sex and entertainment focused attention on the theatre district and “pleasure quarters,” which became the chief backdrops for the literature and arts of the period. Gesaku, or “playful writing,” invented in the mid-eighteenth century, satirized the government and samurai behavior while parodying the classics. These entertaining new styles bred genres that appealed to the masses. Among the bestsellers were lengthy serialized heroic epics, revenge dramas, ghost and monster stories, romantic melodramas, and comedies that featured common folk. An Edo Anthology offers distinctive and engaging examples of this broad range of genres and media. It includes both well-known masterpieces and unusual examples from the city’s counterculture, some popular with intellectuals, others with wider appeal. Some of the translations presented here are the first available in English and many are based on first editions. In bringing together these important and expertly translated Edo texts in a single volume, this collection will be warmly welcomed by students and interested readers of Japanese literature and popular culture.
