Download or read book Play Time written by Malcolm Turvey and published by Columbia University Press. This book was released on 2019-12-03 with total page 488 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jacques Tati is widely regarded as one of the greatest postwar European filmmakers. He made innovative and challenging comedies while achieving international box office success and attaining a devoted following. In Play Time, Malcolm Turvey examines Tati’s unique comedic style and evaluates its significance for the history of film and modernism. Turvey argues that Tati captured elite and general audiences alike by combining a modernist aesthetic with slapstick routines, gag structures, and other established traditions of mainstream film comedy. Considering films such as Monsieur Hulot’s Holiday (1953), Mon Oncle (1958), Play Time (1967), and Trafic (1971), Turvey shows how Tati drew on the rich legacy of comic silent film while modernizing its conventions in order to encourage his viewers to adopt a playful attitude toward the modern world. Turvey also analyzes Tati’s sardonic view of the bourgeoisie and his complex and multifaceted satire of modern life. Tati's singular and enduring achievement, Turvey concludes, was to translate the democratic ideals of the postwar avant-garde into mainstream film comedy, crafting a genuinely popular modernism. Richly illustrated with images from the director’s films, Play Time offers an illuminating and original understanding of Tati’s work.

Download or read book Playtime Is Over written by Derek Anderson and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2020-11-24 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Playtime Is Over: The book that is long overdue yet very much needed is finally here. Too often many people live a life that becomes one big lie after another. I have learned by living that it's one thing to lie to other people, but it's a terrible thing to lie to yourself. For many years some people have allowed their life to continue on in this state of "deep sleep," which is destructive not only to themselves but to others as well. This book is not to a race or creed of people, but to a type of people: To people that know that there is more to life than the things that they are seeing and doing. To people who know that there are issues and topics that need to be talked about (yet) not many people seem to want to talk about them. To people that are so fed up with the sexual sins and perversions of these times that they just want for someone to address the topic from a real honest perspective.Well, that is what I am here to do, talk about the sexual sins and perversions that are over running the world we live in. Healthy sexual relationships were designed to be a good thing, performed within the union of marriage between two (consenting) married adults. What we are allowing today in a lot more ways than one is for contamination to settle in. Men and women are leaning to their own understanding and doing (by choice) whatever they are big and bad enough to do. Some people (not all) live their life in silence about a lot of these topics, because they don't have anyone to talk to about them. Nowhere to turn for real, honest conversations about this issue. For the most part we spend time on the surface of these issues. Well, within the pages of this book we will go past the surface and bring some clarity in a lot more areas than not, so consider your realities and know that help is here. So, brace yourself like a woman/man because "playtime is over!"Warning:Once you start reading this book, it will be hard to escape the truths in these writings, so much to the point that you will be challenged to change for the better or remain in the same condition that you were in before you started reading this book. Overall... "The choice is yours." I invite you to read, receive, and reevaluate your life as you know it so that you can live a life free from the things that may be holding you captive, and start living a life that matters even more; not only to you but to others. Life is more than living for the here and now, live for the eternal...come and dine.

Download or read book Animal Playtime written by DK and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2011-06-20 with total page 66 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Children learn about life by playing, and so do lots of adorable animals. Following on from the hugely successful titles Animal Families, and Big Babies, Little Babies, Animal Playtime takes a playful peek at baby lions chewing on daddy's tail, polar-bear cubs using their mom's furry body as a climbing frame, and a young monkey trying to escape a parent's clutches to go off with his friends. For each appealing image, the text points out what's going on, why the play takes the form it does, or what the animal baby is learning from it. Animal Playtime uses simple language that children will understand. It's an ideal book for little ones to share with their parents, and for them to explore by themselves, encouraging their enjoyment of reading, and inspiring them to discover more about the irresistible creatures that scamper through its pages.

Download or read book Weeping in the Playtime of Others written by Kenneth Wooden and published by Ohio State University Press. This book was released on 2000 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the summer of 1972 through 1975, Kenneth Wooden visited correctional facilities in thirty states where juveniles between the ages of five and sixteen were being held. During his research he uncovered an astoundingly high incidence of emotional and physical abuse, torture, and commercial exploitation of the children by their keepers, individuals who received public funds to care for them. After observing the brutal treatment of these youths, a significant number of whom were not criminals but runaways or mentally disabled, Wooden described the conditions in which these children lived in Weeping in the Playtime of Others.
