Book Play Through the Profiles

Book excerpt: Recognizing the perceived conflict between a belief in the value of play to early childhood development and a commitment to an early childhood pedagogical framework, this book attempts to validate play as a fundamental component of learning and an avenue through which learning outcomes can be identified and confirmed. The book is designed to enable curriculum developers and teachers to combine play with the curriculum and student progress profiles in eight key learning areas: English, Mathematics, The Arts, Studies of Society and Environment, Technology, Languages Other than English, Health and Physical Education, and Science. Play is at the forefront of outcomes-based education as an analysis tool for profiling children, and a context in which children's knowledge and abilities can be assessed. The chapters are: (1) "Profiling Children through Play: An Introduction" (Marilyn Fleer); (2) "Studies of Society and Environment--Using Play To Work towards Planned Outcomes" (Sue Dockett); (3) "Supporting Science Learning through Imaginative Play" (Marilyn Fleer and Gilda Segal); (4) "Science and Play" (Helen Sharp); (5) "Playing Around with Technology: Children Creating Multiple Learning Pathways" (Marilyn Fleer and others); (6) "Play and the Mathematics Profile" (Penny Skinner); and (7) "Play and the Language Profiles and Scales" (Laurie Makin). In this inspiring book, Thomas guides you in using the Rhys Method® Life Purpose Profile System to identify your purpose and reconnect with your passions, so you can find true happiness and fulfillment. This system of self-discovery encompasses five distinct soul-based profiles. Which one are you? - Creative Idealists are highly imaginative thinkers who sometimes self-isolate, feeling safer staying in their inner mental world than engaging with others. - Emotional Intelligence Specialists are empathic, sensitive, and compassionate but sometimes struggle with being overwhelmed and feeling unloved. - Team Players are loyal supporters who selflessly put others’ needs before their own, but they can fail to recognize their own strengths and needs. - Charismatic Leader-Charmers are energetic, dynamic, and capable, but they can become distrustful, self-centered, and even aggressive, in their relationships. - Knowledgeable Achievers are driven, self-disciplined, and organized big-picture thinkers. They sometimes lose touch with their emotions and push themselves too hard, becoming overly critical and judgmental. Once you identify your primary life-purpose profile, as well the other profiles you may inhabit, you can move toward your unique calling—embracing your strengths and rejecting unhealthy behaviors. Discover Your Purpose also helps you to better understand and relate to others through their profiles. How to Create the Ideal Adoption Profile: How to Get Noticed by Potential Birthparents, Writing the Perfect “Dear Birthmother” Letter, Choosing the Right Profile Pictures, and More… Why is it that some couples are forced to wait many years before they are chosen to adopt while others are chosen quickly? One reason is that everyone needs to have a good profile listing with the adoption agency or any potential birthparent will browse right past them to the next couple hoping to adopt. Creating the ideal adoption profile can be hard, but it doesn’t need to be. How Open Should My Adoption Be? Understanding Open vs. Closed Adoption, Preparing for Possible Difficulties, Pros & Cons of Sharing Pictures & Updates, Visiting Birthparents, Social Media, Appropriate Gifts, & More... Even when the same couple is involved in more than one adoption, each situation will require a different answer to that question. And to make a complicated question even more difficult, there are many layers to open adoption that will each require an answer in order to have a healthy adoption triad. How often should you share pictures and updates? What are the pros and cons of connecting with birthparents over social media? What risks are being taken by involving extended family members in your adoption relationships? What about visiting face-to-face? This book may not be able to answer the question for you about how open your adoption should be, but it will give you tools to help you answer it for yourself! 99 DOs and DON’Ts with Open Adoption: What Hopeful Adoptive Parents Need to Know Before Adopting a Baby After adopting an infant, what is the best way to navigate complicated open adoption relationships? This book might not go quite as deeply in depth as the others in this series regarding certain topics, but these are 99 essential things every adoptive couple needs to know regarding open adoption. Each bit of advice will get the wheels turning inside your mind regarding the intricate complexities of open adoption relationships and get you thinking more deeply about all aspects of your adoption triad—before, during and after the adoption takes place. Book A Multimodal Approach to Video Games and the Player Experience

Download or read book A Multimodal Approach to Video Games and the Player Experience written by Weimin Toh and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-10-10 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume puts forth an original theoretical framework, the ludonarrative model, for studying video games which foregrounds the empirical study of the player experience. The book provides a comprehensive introduction to and description of the model, which draws on theoretical frameworks from multimodal discourse analysis, game studies, and social semiotics, and its development out of participant observation and qualitative interviews from the empirical study of a group of players. The volume then applies this approach to shed light on how players’ experiences in a game influence how they understand and make use of game components in order to progress its narrative. The book concludes with a frame by frame analysis of a popular game to demonstrate the model’s principles in action and its subsequent broader applicability to analyzing video game interaction and design. Offering a new way forward for video game research, this volume is key reading for students and scholars in multimodality, discourse analysis, game studies, interactive storytelling, and new media.
