Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The prime objective of this report is to determine the future availability of platinum and associated metals in the context of demand developments in world markets for these metals. To this end both theresearch effort and this resulting rpoert have been structurer in four parts. The 1st section deals with the general geology of the major known platinum metal deposits, their location, type and estimated quality with regard to ore grades and relative proportions of the various platinum group elements. The 2nd section deals with the present and potential markets for platinum-group metals in the three major non-communist consuming regions namely, North America, Western Europe and Japan. Thr 3rd section assesses the ability of the platinum industry to meet the potential requirements for platinum-group metals postulated in section 2. In the 4th section the price history of plantium and its associated metals has been examined. Forecasts of future price trneds have been made under a number of different assumptions concerning possible major developments in platinum markets outlined in earlier sections of the report. Finally, a number of appendices are included containing statistics and details of the platinum market which would be inappropriate in the main body of the report.

Book Chemistry of the Platinum Group Metals

Download or read book Chemistry of the Platinum Group Metals written by F.R. Hartley and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 645 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The chemistry of platinum group metals is a rapidly expanding commercially important field. It is dominated by the catalytic properties of the metals. They are useful in petrochemical and general chemical plants and are becoming increasingly important as autocatalysts for pollution control. The book covers recent developments in the chemistry of the six platinum group metals, namely, platinum, palladium, rhodium, iridium, ruthenium and osmium. The material falls into three broad areas. Firstly, the occurrence, extraction and use of the metals, especially in catalysis, electrochemistry, energy and electronics. Secondly, organometallic and homogeneous catalytic chemistry and last but not least coordination chemistry including biochemistry and cancer therapy. The work is aimed at scientists in universities and in industry using any of the six platinum group metals in research. It will be useful for those studying the compounds of the metals themselves, and those considering to use either the metals or their complexes and catalysts in their experimental work.

Book Extractive Metallurgy of Nickel Cobalt and Platinum Group Metals

Download or read book Extractive Metallurgy of Nickel Cobalt and Platinum Group Metals written by Frank Crundwell and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2011-07-18 with total page 623 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes and explains the methods by which three related ores and recyclables are made into high purity metals and chemicals, for materials processing. It focuses on present day processes and future developments rather than historical processes. Nickel, cobalt and platinum group metals are key elements for materials processing. They occur together in one book because they (i) map together on the periodic table (ii) occur together in many ores and (iii) are natural partners for further materials processing and materials manufacturing. They all are, for example, important catalysts – with platinum group metals being especially important for reducing car and truck emissions. Stainless steels and CoNiFe airplane engine super alloys are examples of practical usage. The product emphasises a sequential, building-block approach to the subject gained through the author's previous writings (particularly Extractive Metallurgy of Copper in four editions) and extensive experience. Due to the multiple metals involved and because each metal originates in several types of ore – e.g. tropical ores and arctic ores this necessitates a multi-contributor work drawing from multiple networks and both engineering and science. - Synthesizes detailed review of the fundamental chemistry and physics of extractive metallurgy with practical lessons from industrial consultancies at the leading international plants - Discusses Nickel, Cobalt and Platinum Group Metals for the first time in one book - Reviews extraction of multiple metals from the same tropical or arctic ore - Industrial, international and multidisciplinary focus on current standards of production supports best practice use of industrial resources
