Book The Plane Turbulent Wall Jet Part I Jet Development and Friction Factor

Download or read book The Plane Turbulent Wall Jet Part I Jet Development and Friction Factor written by G. E. MYERS and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 1 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An investigation was made of the jet development, the velocity profiles, and the wall shearing stress in a two-dimensional, incompressible, turbulent wall jet. Experimental data concerning velocity profiles, decay of the maximum velocity and the jet growth are presented over greater ranges than previously available. The shearing stress, maximum velocity decay and jet thickness ARE PREDICTED ANALYTICALLY BY MOMENTUM-INTEGRAL METHODS AND THE SHEAR STRESS IS MEASURED EXPERIMENTALLY BY A HOT-FILM TECHNIQUE. The hot-film values are checked by the wall shear stress computed from the measured velocity profiles. Velocity profiles, velocity decay, and jet thickness agree well with previous investigators and the wall shear stress measurements help to resolve a wide divergence between the experimental values of the other investigators. Book Survey of Literature on Flow Characteristics of a Single Turbulent Jet Impinging on a Flat Plate

Download or read book Survey of Literature on Flow Characteristics of a Single Turbulent Jet Impinging on a Flat Plate written by James W. Gauntner and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Flow characteristics of single jets impinging on flat surfaces have been studied by many investigators. The results of some of the numerous studies are summarized herein. Suggested methods for determining velocities and pressures on which to base heat-transfer correlations for use in impingement cooling design are presented.

Book The Theory of Turbulent Jets

Download or read book The Theory of Turbulent Jets written by Genrikh Naumovich Abramovich and published by Mit Press. This book was released on 1963 with total page 671 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author's first monograph on turbulent jets, in 1936, dealt solely with a free submerged jet. Since that time, the theory of the turbulent jet has been developed in many published works both in the USSR and abroad: it has been enriched with a large amount of experimental material and has been applied in many new fields of engineering. In the last 10 years very substantial progress has been made, and it has now become possible to go beyond the free submerged jet and to solve the problem of a jet in a stream of fluid, to take into account the interaction between the jet and solid walls, to ascertain the relationship between the contour of the jet and the ratio of its density to the density of the surrounding medium, and to establish the characteristic features of a supersonic jet. This monograph contains the results of further research by the author and his colleagues, as well as a critical reappraisal of the more important theoretical and experimental data published by other investigators. The first section deals with the theory of a turbulent jet of incompressible fluid. It gives a systematic analysis of numerous experimental data on velocity profiles, temperature, and the impurity concentration, as well as the outlines of the turbulent mixing lone. The second section sets forth the theory of turbulent gas jets, including strongly preheated and supersonic jets. The theory of free turbulence in a gas, suitable in principle for any degree of compressibility, is revised, and the equations are derived for motion and heat exchange in the boundary layer of a jet at very high temperature. The third section solves several problems of the spreading of jets in finite and semifinite space, and the fourth section describes various applications of the theory of jets, many of which are reported for the first time or have been significantly revised.

Book An Experimental Investigation of the Flow Structure of the Turbulent Boundary Layer

Download or read book An Experimental Investigation of the Flow Structure of the Turbulent Boundary Layer written by Peter W. Runstadler and published by . This book was released on 1963 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A combination of visual and quantitative measurements is presented, providing a physical picture of the turbulent boundary layer flow structure on a flat plate. The flow structure is shown to consist of three zones, each zone has a one to one correspondence to the well known regions of the u+, y+ mean velocity profile. A wall layer region is shown to exist below y+ = 10. An apparently fully turbulent region exists corresponding to the logarithmic ''law of the wall'' and the ''buffer'' region. An intermittent zone appears to agree closely with the ''wake'' deviation region. An entirely new result of the investigation is the delineation of the structure of the wall layer region. This region is shown to contain a relatively regular structure of low and high velocity fluid streaks alternating in the span direction, together with the ejection of low momentum fluid into the outer flow. Correlations are given for the rate of ejection and the streak spacing. A qualitative description of other features of the wall layer region and the character of the remainder of the boundary layer flow structure is presented. (Author).

Book Experimental Study of Two dimensional Turbulent Wall Jet Development with and Without Longitudinal Free Stream Pressure Gradient

Download or read book Experimental Study of Two dimensional Turbulent Wall Jet Development with and Without Longitudinal Free Stream Pressure Gradient written by Douglas Howard Neale and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 534 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An experimental study of various wall jet flows was conducted. The major areas of investigation were: The wall jet injected into still air; The wall jet under a constant-pressure main-stream flow; The wall jet subjected to an adverse pressure gradient imposed by a retarded main-stream flow with a substantially thickened initial boundary layer; The wall jet subjected to an adverse pressure gradient imposed by a retarded main-stream flow with a thickened and distorted initial boundary layer. Detailed velocity profile and local skin friction measurements were made at numerous streamwise distances from the jet slot. For the case in which no main-stream flow was present, the studies were carried out for a wide range of slot Reynolds numbers. For the wall jets with main-stream flow, selected ratios of free-stream velocity to jet velocity at the jet slot were investigated. The growth of characteristic thickness and decay of jet peak velocity is presented for all wall jet studies. Also, velocity and temperature profile similarity is described. Skin friction laws are shown for the constant-pressure wall jets and a single 'law of the wall' valid for all wall jet studies is set forth. Finally, the skin friction and velocity profile measurements are presented in tabular form. (Author).
