Book Limit Analysis and Concrete Plasticity Second Edition

Download or read book Limit Analysis and Concrete Plasticity Second Edition written by M.P. Nielsen and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1998-12-29 with total page 944 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Limit Analysis and Concrete Plasticity, Second Edition covers the most relevant topics related to plastic design methods, providing a reliable and superior alternative to existing empirical methods. Fully updated and containing more extensive coverage, this second edition includes numerical methods and computer code for solving problems, incorporating methods into Eurocode 2 - the common concrete standard for the whole of Europe. This edition: Emphasizes practical design, treating almost all the elementary concrete mechanics problems in such a way that the solutions may be directly applied by the designer Details the fundamental problems associated with so-called effectiveness factors Covers many new solutions to specific problems, including concentrated forces, shear walls and deep beams, beams with normal forces and torsional moments, and solutions dealing with membrane effects in slabs Simplifies the treatment of shear in beams and slabs without shear reinforcement or with a modicum of shear reinforcement Extends the chapters on joints and bond strength, showing how plastic theory offers reasonable solutions for most structural problems in reinforced concrete Limit Analysis and Concrete Plasticity explains the basic principles of plasticity theory and its application to the design of reinforced and prestressed concrete structures, providing a thorough understanding of the subject, rather than simply applying current design codes. This scientific understanding of the subject enables the design student or engineer to solve problems more effectively and safely.

Book Trends in Structural Mechanics

Download or read book Trends in Structural Mechanics written by J. Roorda and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 393 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The desire to understand the mechanics of elastic and plastic solids, new materials and the stability, reliability and dynamic behaviour of structures and their components under extreme environmental conditions has dominated research in structural engineering for many decades. Advances in these areas have revolutionized design methods, codes of practice, and the teaching of structural engineers. In this volume an international body of leading authorities presents some forty papers on current research directions in the specific areas of solid mechanics, structural computation, modern materials and their application, buckling and instability, design of structural systems and components, reliability, seismic analysis, and engineering education. They were presented at a symposium held July 10-12, 1994, at the University of Waterloo, Canada, to honour Professor Archibald Norbert Sherbourne who recently retired from a long and active career of teaching, research and academic administration at this University. The themes of the work contained within this volume reflect Professor Sherbourne's own research interests and will be of interest to both academics and practicing structural engineers.

Book Strength and Deformations of Structural Concrete Subjected to In Plane Shear and Normal Forces

Download or read book Strength and Deformations of Structural Concrete Subjected to In Plane Shear and Normal Forces written by Walter Kaufmann and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2013-12-11 with total page 159 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present doctoral thesis was developed within the framework of the research project "Deformation Capacity of Structural Concrete". This project aims at developing a consistent and experimentally verified theory of the deformation capacity of structural concrete. Previous work included the development of a theoretical model, the so-called Tension Chord Model, which allows a comprehensive description of the load-deforma tion behaviour of tension members in non-prestressed and prestressed concrete struc tures. The present work focuses on a new theoretical model, the so-called Cracked Mem brane Model. For members subjected to in-plane forces this new model combines the ba sic concepts of the modified compression field theory and the tension chord model. Crack spacings and tension stiffening effects in cracked membranes are determined from first principles and the link to plasticity theory methods is maintained since equilibrium conditions are formulated in terms of stresses at the cracks rather than average stresses between the cracks. The research project "Deformation Capacity of Structural Concrete" has been funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation and the Association of the Swiss Cement Pro ducers. This support is gratefully acknowledged. Zurich, July 1998 Prof. Dr. Peter Marti Abstract This thesis aims at contributing to a better understanding of the load-carrying and defor mational behaviour of structural concrete subjected to in-plane shear and normal forces.
