Book Interoperability Cost Analysis of the U S Automotive

Download or read book Interoperability Cost Analysis of the U S Automotive written by Smita Brunnermeier and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2000 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: NIST's Manufacturing Engineering Laboratory (MEL) is developing standards that promote interoperability among members of the U.S. automotive supply chain. This study assesses the costs of imperfect interoperability to the U.S. automotive supply chain and describes the sources of these costs. This study estimates that imperfect interoperability imposes at least $1 billion per year on the members of the U.S. automotive supply chain. By far, the greatest component of these costs is the resources devoted to repairing or reentering data files that are not usable for downstream applications.

Book The Secrets of Building a Plastic Injection Molding Machine

Download or read book The Secrets of Building a Plastic Injection Molding Machine written by Vincent R. Gingery and published by David J. Gingery Publishing, LLC. This book was released on 2015-11-30 with total page 107 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Here is a book that brings the art of plastic injection molding to the home shop level. Working with plastics can be a fun and profitable hobby. If you have ever wanted to produce custom made plastic parts or just want to know how it’s done then this book is for you. Included are complete step by step instructions on how to build a small inexpensive table top injection molding machine capable of injecting up to 1/2 ounce of plastic into a mold. Sources for plastic will be those things normally thrown away. Stuff like plastic milk jugs, soda pop bottles, plastic oil cans etc. You will learn the basic principles of injection molding and how to design and make your own molds. Begin by making a simple mold to test the machine. Then a mold for a plastic knob that will be used on the machine. Progress to a mold for a small plastic container with a snap lid. It won’t be long before you will be creating new products of your own design. I’ll even show you how to cast replacements for broken or missing plastic parts. Just think of the possibilities. And the finished items you make will turn out so nice and look so professional that it will be hard to believe you made them yourself. Construction is simple and straight forward, but it will require basic metal working knowledge and access to a metal lathe and a drill press along with other hand and power tools associated with metal working and machine work in general.

Book Design of Plastic Moulds and Dies

Download or read book Design of Plastic Moulds and Dies written by László Sors and published by Elsevier Science Limited. This book was released on 1989-01-01 with total page 253 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is based on the authors' many years of experience in the practice and teaching of mould design. It contains the solutions to the most interesting problems they have encountered during their work. Books on this subject are not very numerous as designers are often reluctant to publish the results of their experiences. This work, however, offers a broad survey of constructional designs which have proved feasible in practice. Through studying these examples designers may find useful ideas for solving other problems. The reader will find with each design a short description of the mould or die and an explanatory list of its most important parts. The descriptions give the characteristics of the moulds while the lists make the designs more understandable. Before the detailed presentation of the designs for plastic moulds and extruders, there is a short theoretical summary which will help the designer select the correct dimensions to save material, energy and time. This part of the book will also help the designer make dimensioning programmes for computers and so perform complicated calculations quickly and accurately. The clear presentation of theory, examples and explanations make the book a useful aid in practical work as well as for study purposes.

Book Plastics Technology Handbook Volume 2

Download or read book Plastics Technology Handbook Volume 2 written by Don Rosato and published by Momentum Press. This book was released on 2011-10-13 with total page 1024 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This comprehensive handbook provides a simplified, practical and innovative approach to understanding the design and manufacture of plastic products. It will expand the reader's understanding of plastics technology by defining and focusing on past, current, and future technical trends. The content is presented so that both technical and nontechnical readers can understand the interrelationships of materials to processes. Different plastic products are examined and their related critical factors are shown, from meeting performance requirements in different environments, to reducing costs and targeting for zero defects. Examples used include small to large, and simple to complex shapes. Information is included on static properties (tensile, flexural), dynamic properties (creep, fatigue, impact) and physical and chemical properties. Extensive reference sources and useful data and physical and chemical constants are also provided. Volume 2 offers detailed coverage of most major plastics processing techniques, including injection molding, extrusion, blow molding, and thermoforming.
