Book Materials Degradation And Its Control By Surface Engineering 2nd Edition

Download or read book Materials Degradation And Its Control By Surface Engineering 2nd Edition written by Andrew William Batchelor and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2003-03-12 with total page 429 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The second edition of Materials Degradation and Its Control by Surface Engineering continues the theme of the first edition, where discussions on corrosion, wear, fatigue and thermal damage are balanced by similarly detailed discussions on their control methods, e.g. painting and metallic coatings. The book is written for the non-specialist, with an emphasis on introducing technical concepts graphically rather than through algebraic equations. In the second edition, the graphic content is enhanced by an additional series of colour and monochrome photographs that illustrate key aspects of the controlling physical phenomena. Existing topics such as liquid metal corrosion have been extended and new topics such as corrosion inhibitors added.

Book Severe Plastic Deformation and Thermomechanical Processing Nanostructuring and Properties

Download or read book Severe Plastic Deformation and Thermomechanical Processing Nanostructuring and Properties written by Andrea Bachmaier and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2021-02-11 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Severe plastic deformation (SPD) is a very attractive research field for metallic materials because it provides new possibilities for manufacturing nanostructured materials in large quantities and allows microstructural design on different hierarchical levels. The papers included in this issue address the following topics: novel SPD processes as well as recent advancements in established processing methods, microstructure evolution and grain refinement in single- and multi-phase alloys as well as composites, strategies to enhance the microstructure stability at elevated temperatures, mechanically driven phase transformations, surface nanostructuring, gradient and multilayered materials, and mechanical and physical properties of SPD-processed materials.

Book Plastic Deformation of Materials

Download or read book Plastic Deformation of Materials written by R. J. Arsenault and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 525 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Treatise on Materials Science and Technology, Volume 6: Plastic Deformation of Materials covers the fundamental properties and characterization of materials, ranging from simple solids to complex heterophase systems. The book presents articles on the low temperature of deformation of bcc metals and their solid-solution alloys; the cyclic deformation of metals and alloys; and the high-temperature diffusion-controlled creep of some metals and alloys, with particular reference to the various creep mechanisms. The text also includes articles on superplasticity; the fatigue deformation of polymers; the low temperature deformation of crystalline nonmetals; and the recovery and recrystallization during high temperature deformation. Professional scientists and engineers, as well as graduate students in materials science and associated fields will find the book invaluable.

Book Severe Plastic Deformation Techniques

Download or read book Severe Plastic Deformation Techniques written by Marcello Cabibbo and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2017-08-09 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Grain size is recognized as a key microstructural factor affecting mechanical and, to some extent, physical properties of metals and metallic materials. For this reason, all the means designed to control and modify the grain size are considered a proper way to design and tailor metallic materials with desired properties. In this sense, microstructure refinement through severe plastic deformation (SPD) techniques can be considered a key method for this purpose. A typical SPD process is currently defined as any method of metal forming under extensive hydrostatic pressure intended to impose a very high strain on a bulk solid without involving any significant change in the overall dimensions and having the ability to produce exceptional grain refinement. What makes SPD processing techniques so popular and attractive is the possibility of using them to enhance the strength behavior of conventional metallic materials by a factor of up to eight for pure metals such as copper and by some 30-50% for alloys. Despite the impressive property improvement achievable with SPD techniques, their uptake by industry has been rather sluggish. This book intends to give a panorama of the typical SPD techniques intended to optimize the mechanical and physical properties of metals through a significant grain size reduction process. Modeling for this purpose is also presented.
