In the study, openings of various sizes were created in the stand and measurements were made of microclimatological parameters and tree growth parameters. Results presented include solar radiation, soil and air temperature, humidity, and soil moisture in the various types of openings; seedling-water relationships; first- and second-year establishment ratios; effectiveness of vegetation control treatments; daytime patterns in stomatal conductance and transpiration; height and diameter growth; leaf area index; and differences in height between trees with pruned and unpruned roots.
