Book Researches on Irritability of Plants Classic Reprint

Download or read book Researches on Irritability of Plants Classic Reprint written by Jagadis Chunder Bose and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-13 with total page 406 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Researches on Irritability of Plants I have in this work dealing with my researches on the irritability of plants introduced new methods by which the scope of investigation has been enlarged, and a very high degree of accuracy secured. In my previous treatise on Plant Response, the response recorder employed was a modification of the optical lever, automatic records being secured by the very inconvenient and tedious process of photography. The delay thus imposed retarded seriously the progress of the research. Those practically engaged in investigations on plants can realise the difficulties that arise from the too quick passage of the seasons. It thus frequently happened that by the time new instrumental appliances were rendered practicable the favourable season for the plant was over, involving the postponement of the experiment for another year. In Spite of these difficulties, the long series of investigations that I then carried out gave many interesting results, which not only threw light on many Obscure problems, but also led to the discovery of several important phenomena in plant physiology. Book C4 Photosynthesis and Related CO2 Concentrating Mechanisms

Download or read book C4 Photosynthesis and Related CO2 Concentrating Mechanisms written by Agepati S. Raghavendra and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-10-20 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The C4 pathway of photosynthesis was discovered and characterized, more than four decades ago. Interest in C4 pathway has been sustained and has recently been boosted with the discovery of single-cell C4 photosynthesis and the successful introduction of key C4-cycle enzymes in important crops, such as rice. Further, cold-tolerant C4 plants are at the verge of intense exploitation as energy crops. Rapid and multidisciplinary progress in our understanding of C4 plants warrants a comprehensive documentation of the available literature. The book, which is a state-of-the-art overview of several basic and applied aspects of C4 plants, will not only provide a ready source of information but also triggers further research on C4 photosynthesis. Written by internationally acclaimed experts, it provides an authoritative source of progress made in our knowledge of C4 plants, with emphasis on physiology, biochemistry, molecular biology, biogeography, evolution, besides bioengineering C4 rice and biofuels. The book is an advanced level textbook for postgraduate students and a reference book for researchers in the areas of plant biology, cell biology, biotechnology, agronomy, horticulture, ecology and evolution.

Book Stress Responses in Plants

Download or read book Stress Responses in Plants written by Bhumi Nath Tripathi and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-05-27 with total page 293 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection discusses the variety of specific molecular reactions by means of which plants respond to physiological and toxic stress conditions. It focuses on the characterization of the molecular mechanisms that underlie the induction of toxicity and the triggered responses and resistances. The nine chapters, all written by prominent researchers, examine heavy metal toxicity, aluminum toxicity, arsenic toxicity, salt toxicity, drought stress, light stress, temperature stress, flood stress and UV-B stress. In addition, information on the fundamentals of stress responses and resistance mechanisms is provided. The book addresses researchers and students working in the fields of plant physiology and biochemistry.
