Book excerpt: The program, plans, and procedures to be used in drilling and completion of the Raft River Geothermal Exploratory Hole No. 3(RRGE-3) are described. RRGE-3 will be located in the Raft River valley of south central Idaho, southeast of Burley, and approximately 16 miles south of Malta, Idaho. The third exploratory hole will be drilled to provide data to further investigate and evaluate the geothermal reservoir, as well as to optimize the location of possible future resource and/or injection wells, and to develop methods to reduce the cost of geothermal wells. Plans call for drilling to a total depth of approximately 6,000 ft., or to the depth at which it is either indicated from temperature and test flow data and from logs that an acceptable hot water resource is available or that the hole is accepted as a possible reinjection well. (LBS).

Book Geothermal Well Technology

Download or read book Geothermal Well Technology written by and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The drilling and completion portion of the long-range Geothermal Well Technology Program is presented. A nine-year program is outlined based upon an objective of reducing the cost of geothermal energy development and providing a major stimulus to meeting the power-on-line goals established by the Department of Energy. Major technological challenges to be addressed in this program include improvements in geothermal drilling fluids, downhole drilling motors, rock bits and the development of high flow rate, high temperature completion and reinjection techniques. In addition, fundamental studies will be conducted in drilling energetics to improve the understanding of drilling mechanics. This will lead to advanced development of high performance, low cost geothermal drilling systems.

Book Geothermal Drilling and Completion Technology Development Program Plan

Download or read book Geothermal Drilling and Completion Technology Development Program Plan written by and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A long-range plan for the development of new technology that will reduce the cost of drilling and completing geothermal wells is presented. The role of this program in relation to the total Federal Geothermal Energy Program is defined and specific program goals are identified. Then, the current status of the program, initiated in FY 1978, is presented, and research and development activities planned through 1987 are described. Budget and milestone estimates for each task are provided. The management plan for implementing the program is also discussed. The goals of this program are to develop the technology required to reduce the cost of drilling and completing geothermal wells by 25% in the near term and by 50% in the long term. Efforts under this program to date have resulted in new roller bit designs that will reduce well costs by 2% to 4%, new drag bits that have demonstrated marked increases in penetration rate, and the field verification of the effectiveness of inert drilling fluids in reducing drill pipe corrosion. Activities planned for the next six years for achieving the program goals are described. Technical activities include work in the areas of drilling hardware, drilling fluids, lost circulation control methods, completion technology, advanced drilling systems, and supporting technology.

Book Geopressured geothermal Drilling and Testing Plan General Crude Oil Dept of Energy Pleasant Bayou No 1 Well Brazoria County Texas

Download or read book Geopressured geothermal Drilling and Testing Plan General Crude Oil Dept of Energy Pleasant Bayou No 1 Well Brazoria County Texas written by and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a result of geopressured resource assessment studies in the Gulf Coast region, the Brazoria fairway, located in Brazoria County, Texas was determined to be an optimum area for additional studies. A plan is presented for drilling, completion, and testing of one geopressured-geothermal well and two disposal wells in Brazoria County, Texas. The objectives of the well drilling and testing program are to determine the following parameters: reservoir permeability, porosity, thickness, rock material properties, depth, temperature, and pressure; reservoir fluid content, specific gravity, resistivity, viscosity, and hydrocarbons in solution; reservoir fluid production rates, pressure, temperature, production decline, and pressure decline; geopressured well and surface equipment design requirements for high-volume production and possible sand production; specific equipment design for surface operations, hydrocarbons distribution, and effluent disposal; and possibilities of reservoir compaction and/or surface subsidence.
