Download or read book Economics for the People written by R. R. Bowker and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-15 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Economics for the People: Being Plain Talks on Economics, Especially for Use in Business, in Schools, and in Women's Reading Classes This little book was written because there seemed to be need of it and I could get no one else to undertake it. It grew out of my summary of Economics, "Of Work and Wealth," which had developed from a chapter in a book yet uncompleted, on "The Arts of Life." It is an endeavor to set forth the principles of Economics so as to make them plain and interesting to all readers, illustrating them from American facts, so that at the end of the book the reader will have a fair knowledge of the economic history and condition of our own country. I may add that it is the work of a business man, drawn largely from business experience. I shall be obliged to any reader who will send me, in care of the publishers (providing that reply is not usually expected), criticisms, suggestions, or inquiries that may enable me to make the book more useful should the demand for it justify new editions. I shall be especially glad to know what parts prove to be hard to understand. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. You'll find more theory in fewer pages than you would have thought possible—interest rates and inflation, opportunity costs and the cost of living, prices and profits, debts and deficits—all the confusing and crucial ideas you never quite learned, summarized in easy-to-understand, impossible-to-forget images and phrases. This amazing little book is an amusing dialogue between a young MBA and an old Professor of Economics. Like most of us, this young manager-to-be has taken courses and slogged through the formulas of basic economics; but he still doesn't have the first idea of what economics really means. As we listen, the Processor explains the real points of macro, micro, and international economics concepts without graphs or jargon or math or anything but common sense.

Book Economics in One Lesson

Download or read book Economics in One Lesson written by Henry Hazlitt and published by Crown Currency. This book was released on 2010-08-11 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With over a million copies sold, Economics in One Lesson is an essential guide to the basics of economic theory. A fundamental influence on modern libertarianism, Hazlitt defends capitalism and the free market from economic myths that persist to this day. Considered among the leading economic thinkers of the “Austrian School,” which includes Carl Menger, Ludwig von Mises, Friedrich (F.A.) Hayek, and others, Henry Hazlitt (1894-1993), was a libertarian philosopher, an economist, and a journalist. He was the founding vice-president of the Foundation for Economic Education and an early editor of The Freeman magazine, an influential libertarian publication. Hazlitt wrote Economics in One Lesson, his seminal work, in 1946. Concise and instructive, it is also deceptively prescient and far-reaching in its efforts to dissemble economic fallacies that are so prevalent they have almost become a new orthodoxy. Economic commentators across the political spectrum have credited Hazlitt with foreseeing the collapse of the global economy which occurred more than 50 years after the initial publication of Economics in One Lesson. Hazlitt’s focus on non-governmental solutions, strong — and strongly reasoned — anti-deficit position, and general emphasis on free markets, economic liberty of individuals, and the dangers of government intervention make Economics in One Lesson every bit as relevant and valuable today as it has been since publication.
