Book Design of Plain Bearings for Heavy Machinery

Download or read book Design of Plain Bearings for Heavy Machinery written by WA. Glaeser and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page 18 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A design system for heavily loaded, slow moving, grease lubricated plain bearings has been developed. The system is based on frictional input and dissipation analysis combined with experimental data. P-V design charts have been developed which show regions of high friction, excessive bearing temperature, high wear, and moderate wear. The information presented in the design charts compares well with full bearing test results.

Book Bearings And Bearing Metals

Download or read book Bearings And Bearing Metals written by Anon and published by Read Books Ltd. This book was released on 2013-04-16 with total page 145 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Few subjects related to the design or construction of machinery are of greater importance than the subject of bearings. All classes of mechanisms have bearings of some kind and bearings that are properly designed and constructed are a necessity. As every experienced mechanic knows, a poor bearing may tie up a machine or even cause an entire plant to shut down temporarily. Owing to the importance of this subject, designers and mechanics in general should understand the fundamental principles governing bearing design and should know what approved types are in common use on different classes of machinery. This treatise deals exclusively with plain bearings, ball and roller bearings being covered in another book of this series. The types of plain bearings illustrated in a connection with the following chapters were selected to show how designs are modified to suit different conditions, and also practical methods of arranging bearings to insure adequate lubrication and thorough protection against the entrance of any foreign material liable to injure the bearing surfaces. The designs illustrated were taken from actual practice and have proved satisfactory when properly constructed and applied. This treatise contains, in addition to the features mentioned, condensed information on corn- positions of various bearing metals, their properties, the classes of service to which different bearing alloys are adapted, and the general methods of procedure in designing plain bearings to meet different service conditions.

Book Journal Bearing Databook

Download or read book Journal Bearing Databook written by Tsuneo Someya and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Journal bearings, which are used in all kinds of rotating machinery, do not only support static loads, such as the weight of rotors and load caused by transmitted torque of reduction gears, but are, in addition almost the only machine element that is able to suppress various exciting forces acting on the rotating shaft. As rotating machines have become large and multi-staged, while compactness, high speed, and high output have also been realized in recent years, not only has the bearing load increased, but also the magnitude and variety of exciting forces. Therefore, the role and importance of journal bearings have increased tremendous ly. In particular, for the design of rotating machines with low vibration levels and high reliability, knowledge of the exact characteristic data of bearings, and especial ly of the stiffness or spring coefficients and the damping coefficients of oil films in bearings, is essential. However, the amount of reliable data now applicable to practical design is limited. Through the activity of the Research Subcommittee on Dynamic Charac teristics of Journal Bearings and Their Applications (designated as PSC 28), estab lished and organized in June 1979 through May 1982 within the Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers (JSME), these coefficients, together with static characteris tics, have been calculated and also measured on a number of new test rigs.

Book Changes in Plain Bearing Technology

Download or read book Changes in Plain Bearing Technology written by Rolf Koring and published by SAE International. This book was released on 2012-11-28 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A unique fusion of theoretical and practical knowledge, “Changes in Plain Bearing Technology”, by Rolf Koring, covers a meaningful range of expertise in this field. Drawing from years of experience in design development, materials selection, and their correlation to real-life part failure, this title, co-published by SAE International and expert Verlag (Germany), concentrates on hydrodynamic bearings lined with whitemetals, also known as Babbits. Written under the assumption that even the most mature body of knowledge can be revisited and improved, “Changes in Plain Bearing Technology” is a courageous and focused approach to questioning accepted test results and looking at alternative material compounds, and their application suitability. The process, which leads to innovative answers on how the technology is transforming itself to respond to new market requirements, shows how interdisciplinary thinking can recognize new potential in long-established industrial modus operandi. Tackling the highly complex issue of component failure, “Changes in Plain Bearing Technology” addresses the basics of hydrodynamic plain bearings while shedding new light on the performance of compound materials, including the limits of measurable fatigue strength, the lining materials of the future and damage evaluation. Main points of interest in this book are: • The advantages of hydrodynamic plain bearings • Backing and lining materials • Compound materials: the great unknown and new conclusions • Investigations on test rigs • Quality standards for plain bearings • Assembly and operations • Damage of plain bearings and its consequences • The future of the technology “Changes in Plain Bearing Technology” is a must-read for those looking for new solutions in this high-impact area of mechanical engineering.
