Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The primary aim of this book is to explore the contradiction between widely shared beliefs in the USA about racial inclusiveness and equal opportunity for all and the fact that most churches are racially homogeneous and do not include people with disabilities. To address the problem Mary McClintock Fulkerson explores the practices of an interracial church (United Methodist) that includes people with disabilities. The analysis focuses on those activities which create opportunities for people to experience those who are `different' as equal in ways that diminish both obliviousness to the other and fear of the other. In contrast with theology's typical focus on the beliefs of Christians, this project offers a theory of practices and place that foregrounds the instinctual reactions and communications that shape all groups. The effect is to broaden the academic field of theology through the benefits of ethnographic research and postmodern place theory.

Book God s Plan of Redemption

Download or read book God s Plan of Redemption written by Mary E McDonough and published by . This book was released on 2019-12-06 with total page 126 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The pernicious teaching of evolution in our schools and colleges, and the higher criticism of our modern pulpits, are responsible for the fatal drift from the avowed faith of our forefathers. This alarming condition calls for new methods of presentation of the truths of God's Written Word.Experience has demonstrated the wisdom of teaching the fundamentals from the biological standpoint, thereby counteracting in a logical, convincing manner the destructive work of infidel teachers, and saving the young from their subtle snares. The desirability of presenting these vital truths in a comprehensive manner, with due regard to the unity and correlation of subjects, has also been considered in the preparation of this course of Bible Study; but the treatment of the various subjects does not claim to be exhaustive.Further study of each subject will repay the Bible student and is strongly advised.Suggestions in reference to such study will be found throughout this course. It will be observed throughout these studies, that Eternal Life is presented from the biological standpoint instead of the etymological. While the best authorities agree that aionios may be used with reference to the past as well as to the future, yet this word does not clearly reveal the nature of the Life that is bestowed at the instant of regeneration. The term Uncreated Life actually defines the Life of God in Christ Jesus, that is shared by the believer. A careful reading of John 1:1 and 1 John 1:1-2 corroborates this statement by declaring Eternal Life to be the Uncreated Word who was with God the Father, and who was God.

Ruether highlights women theologians' work to challenge the patriarchal paradigm of historical theology and to present redemption linked to the liberation of women. Ruether turns her attention to the situation of women globally and how the growing plurality of women's voices from multicultural and multireligious contexts articulates feminist liberation theology today." --Publisher description.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Faith Thinking provides a stimulating introduction to some vital questions of method in Christian theology. The book argues that faith commitments are necessary not in theology alone but in all serious acts of our knowing anything at all as human beings. Knowledge, in other words, is always bound to be the outcome of some process of “faith seeking understanding.” Fresh consideration is given too in this book to relationships obtaining between the authoritative canon of Scripture, tradition, and “reason” in the theological task. Finally, in this new edition an important reevaluation is undertaken of the potentially explosive impact of “truth claims” in a post-truth world.

Book To the Heart of the Mystery of Redemption

Download or read book To the Heart of the Mystery of Redemption written by Hans Urs von Balthasar and published by Ignatius Press. This book was released on 2010-01-01 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the 1960's, Fr. Hans Urs von Balthasar gave two conferences in Paris on the subject of redemption. One considered the perspective of Christ the Redeemer. The other gave a view of the redemption from the perspective of Mary and the Church, consenting to the sacrifice of Jesus. These two conferences are what Fr. Jacques Servais, S.J., in his foreword calls "a lantern of the Word," shedding light amidst the advancing turmoil of the postconciliar period. These conferences were later collected by the eminent theologian Henri Cardinal de Lubac, S.J., in a single volume along with an anthology of meditations on the Passion by the mystic Adrienne von Speyr, and selected by von Balthasar. In this new edition, prepared for the centenary of the birth of Hans Urs von Balthasar, Fr. Servais, the director of Casa Balthasar in Rome, provides an extensive postscript illuminating the text along with the original preface by de Lubac.
