Book Japan and a New World Economic Order

Download or read book Japan and a New World Economic Order written by Kyoshi Kojima and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2010-11 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: President Nixon’s new economic policy of August 1971, aggravated by the oil problem since October 1973 caused chaos and uncertainty in the international trade and currency system. There were fears of another 1930s style depression. In addition, a world food shortage and strident claims by developing countries for perpetual sovereignty over resources added another set of difficulties. This volume, written from Japan’s standpoint, suggests a new direction for the world and regional economic order. The book tackles two major issues in international economics: Firstly, traditional international trade theory aims only at static maximization in the use of world human and material resources, but, the author stresses more attention should be paid to such dynamic or developmental elements as population growth, immigration, natural resource development, improvement in transfer of technology, economies of scale, direct foreign investment and economic integration in order to create development centres or sectors in the world economy. Secondly, the author discusses how to combine a global and regional approach to economic integration.

Book excerpt: Makes Japanese sources accessible in English Although much of the work on Japanese economic history is inaccessible to Westerners, many of Japan's leading economic historians have published widely in English. Combined with the work of Western economists who can utilize Japanese-language sources, this series assembles a wide range of English-language articles on the key issues in Japanese economic development. Individual volumes cover the interwar period, postwar reconstruction and growth, the textile industry, demographics, agriculture, trade, and the rise of commerce and "protoindustry" in the Tokugawa era. An information-packed classroom and research resource An introductory essay in each volume discusses the significance of the articles, compares various economic development in Japan with those in other countries, and puts studies in the context of similar studies in Europe. A versatile research resource, this 7-volume set is a veritable gold mine of hard-to-find informationand data from diverse sources and a godsend to everyone interested in comparative economic and social history. Professors will appreciate the collection because it gives them instant access to less familiar English-language sources and is an easy way to introduce students to doing their own research. Book Japanese Dependence on World Economy

Download or read book Japanese Dependence on World Economy written by Leon Hollerman and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2015-12-08 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In order to affirm its status as an "advanced industrial nation," Japan has formally adopted a sweeping program of liberalization in its own trade and payments. In practice, however, this program is subject to various limitations; to a considerable extent the apparently smooth implementation of the liberalization program may be attributed to the system of informal “administrative guidance” by which conflicts have been adjusted and symptoms of economic instability partly suppressed. Professor Hellerman analyzes the interrelations between changes in the structure of Japan's industrial production and the structure of its foreign trade. Applying the theory of industrial organization at the international level, he proceeds from the examination of structure to an evaluation of performance and public policy in Japan’s external economic affairs.
