Book Experimental Methods in Survey Research

Download or read book Experimental Methods in Survey Research written by Paul J. Lavrakas and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2019-10-01 with total page 548 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A thorough and comprehensive guide to the theoretical, practical, and methodological approaches used in survey experiments across disciplines such as political science, health sciences, sociology, economics, psychology, and marketing This book explores and explains the broad range of experimental designs embedded in surveys that use both probability and non-probability samples. It approaches the usage of survey-based experiments with a Total Survey Error (TSE) perspective, which provides insight on the strengths and weaknesses of the techniques used. Experimental Methods in Survey Research: Techniques that Combine Random Sampling with Random Assignment addresses experiments on within-unit coverage, reducing nonresponse, question and questionnaire design, minimizing interview measurement bias, using adaptive design, trend data, vignettes, the analysis of data from survey experiments, and other topics, across social, behavioral, and marketing science domains. Each chapter begins with a description of the experimental method or application and its importance, followed by reference to relevant literature. At least one detailed original experimental case study then follows to illustrate the experimental method’s deployment, implementation, and analysis from a TSE perspective. The chapters conclude with theoretical and practical implications on the usage of the experimental method addressed. In summary, this book: Fills a gap in the current literature by successfully combining the subjects of survey methodology and experimental methodology in an effort to maximize both internal validity and external validity Offers a wide range of types of experimentation in survey research with in-depth attention to their various methodologies and applications Is edited by internationally recognized experts in the field of survey research/methodology and in the usage of survey-based experimentation —featuring contributions from across a variety of disciplines in the social and behavioral sciences Presents advances in the field of survey experiments, as well as relevant references in each chapter for further study Includes more than 20 types of original experiments carried out within probability sample surveys Addresses myriad practical and operational aspects for designing, implementing, and analyzing survey-based experiments by using a Total Survey Error perspective to address the strengths and weaknesses of each experimental technique and method Experimental Methods in Survey Research: Techniques that Combine Random Sampling with Random Assignment is an ideal reference for survey researchers and practitioners in areas such political science, health sciences, sociology, economics, psychology, public policy, data collection, data science, and marketing. It is also a very useful textbook for graduate-level courses on survey experiments and survey methodology.

Book Flame Retardant Polymeric Materials

Download or read book Flame Retardant Polymeric Materials written by Eli Pearce and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 463 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Flammability has been recognized as an increasingly important social and scientific problem. Fire statistics in the United States (Report of the National Commission on Fire Prevention and Control. "America Burning:' 1973) emphasized the vast devastation to life and property--12.000 lives lost annually due to fire. and these deaths are usually caused by inhaling smoke or toxic gases: 300.000 fire injuries: 11.4 billion dollars in fire cost at which 2.7 billion dollars is related to property loss: a billion dollars to burn injury treatment: and 3.3 billion dollars in productivity loss. It is obvious that much human and economic misery can be attributed to fire situations. In relation to this. polymer flammability has been recognized as an in creasingly important social and scientific problem. The development of flame-retardant polymeric materials is a current example where the initia tive for major scientific and technological developments is motivated by sociological pressure and legislation. This is part of the important trend toward a safer environment and sets a pattern for future example. Flame retardancy deals with our basic everyday life situations-housing. work areas. transportation. clothing and so forth-the "macroenvironment" capsule within which "homosapiens" live. As a result. flame-retardant polymers are now emerging as a specific class of materials leading to new and diversified scientific and technological ventures.

Book Medical Terminology Systems

Download or read book Medical Terminology Systems written by Barbara A. Gylys and published by F. A. Davis Company. This book was released on 2009 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The perfect length for any course, this exceptional full-color, highly illustrated text/workbook uses a body system organization to focus on word building. This beautifully designed visual text combined with the audio CD, TermPlus 3.0, and student and instructor online tools is a unique learning package that's a true blend of words, art, and technology. Word Building--the foundation for success begins with Barbara Gylys and the Body Systems Approach. The med term approaches and how they differ... Most med terms books teach by memorization--the whole word approach. Memorize vocabulary and then try to recognize word patterns. Gylys uses the word-building approach. First learn the patterns of medical words before you learn the vocabulary. Why does word-building work? It begins with the basics... Gylys takes a common sense approach, by introducing word elements first: Roots Combining forms Suffixes Prefixes She covers them one by one, breaking down each word part. Common English word elements are presented... This familiarity makes it easier for students to learn and break apart and build words. Students can use their understanding of word parts to decipher vocabulary. Mnemonic devices, interactive activities (in the book and on the CD) make word-building fun and this in turn increases retention...no more tedious memorization, students learn by breaking down and rebuilding words! "From my years of teaching, I found it was much easier for students to learn word parts directly associated with a body system (or specialty area), and this has been the key to my approach in all of my texts and software products." --Barbara A. Gylys
