Book excerpt: Excerpt from Pitman's Commercial Italian Grammar As indicated by its title, this Grammar has been compiled for the use of business students of the Italian language. I have, however, included in it all the rules needed for a thorough knowledge of Italian, illustrating them with over 1,400 commercial phrases and idioms. Download or read book Italian Grammar Classic Reprint written by C. H. Grandgent and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-04 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Italian Grammar Tms volume is the result of an attempt to put into convenient form and the smallest possible compass all the grammar that the ordinary student of Italian will need. Short as the book is, it con tains some paragraphs which beginners will probably skip: the longer lists of words and endings, and a great part of the chapters on suffixes and irregular verbs will be useful mainly for reference. The vocabularies cover the twenty-one translation exercises, but not the examples nor the Exercise in Pronunciation they are not intended to include words explained in the notes, nor proper names that are exactly the same in Italian and in English. I have endeavored to make the book represent the Italian lan guage as it is spoken and written at the present day; the exercises are taken chiefly from reading-books lately prepared for Tuscan schools. Still, I have tried to give also as many obsolete forms as students of the Italian classics will require. Book Elementary Italian Grammar Classic Reprint

Download or read book Elementary Italian Grammar Classic Reprint written by Pietro Motti and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-08 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Elementary Italian Grammar In writing this little grammar of my native language, it has been my chief object to exhibit in as clear and easy a form as possible the main features of the accidence and syntax combined in their applications to those words and phrases which are most frequently employed in polite conversation. The Italian language, as now Spoken und written by the educated classes, is very simple and precise. Long periods and intricate inversions are no longer in use. We admire them in the works of our standard authors of by-gone ages, but we take great care not to imitate them. Thus, without losing anything of its former grace and harmony, the Italian language has become in this century a very easy language too. This book being intended for beginners and travellers, I have added to it, in the form of an Appendix, a selec tion of useful words and phrases, which, it is confidently hoped, will greatly assist pupils wishing to speak the language as soon as possible. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Italian Conversation-Grammar This Grammar, based on that of Rebello and others, claims to be all that is necessary for the study of the elements of the Italian language. Great pains have been taken to present the verbs in a clear, concise manner; and though, for the sake of easy comparison, they are placed at the end of the book, the student is requested to study a part of them with every lesson. It is hoped that this little work will fill the place for which it is intended. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from An Italian Grammar The series of dialogues in the latter part of the book offers a little practice in familiar idiom; they are especially intended for travelers, as they include a good many words useful in the shops and hotels, on the railway, and so on. T hey are composed in a Tuscan too colloquial to form the basis of exercises, and may be entirely omitted at the pleasure of the instructor. The third person as the person of address in ordinary inter course, being the only one for which most travelers have occasion, is introduced very early, before the habit of the true second person is acquired. Accordingly, in the exercises it is the latter which is made to seem the unusual form. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Grammar of the Italian Language Every one about to publish a book, is accustomed to commence with a preface, in which he chiefly re commends it, if not for its originality, at least for its order and clearness, in preference to other works of the same kind. Should I do 'se? It would be contrary to my opinion. Whatever may be the merits of my book, I leave them to the decision of those for whose use I have written it. To recommend it would be of no avail, if it had no merit; and on the contrary a pompous preface would not add to the value of the work. I beg to assure my English Readers that, whatever judgment they may pass upon my treatise, my only aim has been to assist them in overcoming the difficulties of one of the richest and most copious languages, the lan guage of poetry and song; and also to endeavour to facilitate its acquisition at the least expense of time and labour. An impartial Public will judge whether I have attained my end or not. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. My experience of grammars in general 13 such, that I look for negative more than for positive merit in them. If asked' which I consider the best Italian Grammar, my answer would be The shortest is the best, for, the one that has the least to say about the matter will do the least towards making you abandon the study altogether. The little French works of polidori and vergani are the best of their kind. These do not, ' to be sure, guide you far; but they are useful as far as they go, 'and do not lead you into darkness by unsatisfactory explanations. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from An Italian Grammar With Exercises This book is intended for class use and reference. Practical utility has been considered more than harmony of. Design. This will explain what might be taken for a lack of plan. For instance, the general rules for the inflection of adjectives being given in the first chapter, the chapter on adjectives is placed after those on verbs and pronouns. In order that regular verbal inflection may be thoroughly learned before irregular forms are taken up the chapter on irregular verbs is rather widely separated from that on the regular, and for the same reason the regular conjugations are given before the auxiliaries (the present tenses of the principal auxiliaries being familiar to the pupil from the first lesson); the chapter on the modification of nouns by means of pre fixes and suffixes does not follow that on nouns, and numerals are treated of quite at the end of the book. Numerals belong rather to the dictionary than to the grammar and may conveniently be learned in connection with reading or oral exercises. This chapter, as well as that on prepositions, is intended largely for reference. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
