Book Investigation of the Operating Process of an Engine with Combustion Chamber in the Piston

Download or read book Investigation of the Operating Process of an Engine with Combustion Chamber in the Piston written by V. S. Gusarov and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 15 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 1Ch 8.5/11 engine is a single-cylinder unit put out by the Riga Diesel Plant. A study was made of the feasibility of direct injection with the combustion chamber in the piston in this type of engine. A diagram of the modified combustion chamber with a compression ratio of 15.8 is shown. A new cylinder head was used together with the revised cylinder, which was made of aluminum. The compression ratio was changed by increasing the depth of the chamber. The axis of the chamber was displaced by 5 mm from the cylinder axis toward the spray unit so that the tip of the unit would reach the chamber. The engine was otherwise left unaltered. Various spray units with from one to four nozzle apertures were used in the tests. The test stand was equipped with an equalizing dynamo, systems for fuel supply and measuring the rate of fuel flow, engine cooling regulation, exhaust gas temperature measurement, registration of the initiation and termination of fuel spray. A stroboscopic tachometer was used for setting and monitoring the engine speed. In studying the effect of the number of nozzle apertures on operational indices, the diameters were varied to give approximately the same total cross section in all cases. It was found that optimum operating conditions are achieved with a four-aperture spray unit and a compression ratio of 15.8 without axial vorticity. Conversion to direct injection results in increased indicator efficiency chiefly due to reduced losses in cooling and incomplete combustion. (Author).

Book Pistons and engine testing

Download or read book Pistons and engine testing written by MAHLE International GmbH and published by Springer Vieweg. This book was released on 2018-10-30 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ever-increasing demands placed on combustion engines are just as great when it comes to this centerpiece—the piston. Achieving less weight or friction, or even greater wear resistance, requires in-depth knowledge of the processes taking place inside the engine, suitable materials, and appropriate design and manufacturing processes for pistons, including the necessary testing measures. It is no longer possible for professionals in automotive engineering to manage without specific expertise of this kind, whether they work in the field of design, development, testing, or maintenance. This technical book answers these questions in detail and in a very clear and comprehensible way. In this second, revised edition, every chapter has been revised and expanded. The chapter on “Engine testing”, for example, now include extensive results in the area of friction power loss measurement and lube oil consumption measurement.

Book Infrared Study of a Piston Ring Temperatures in a Fired Engine

Download or read book Infrared Study of a Piston Ring Temperatures in a Fired Engine written by and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sapphire windows have been inserted in the liner of a Petter AV1 diesel engine to enable temperatures of piston lands and rings to be monitored during firing. The overall temperatures thus measured are comparable to those reported in the literature obtained using embedded thermocouples. However the very fast response time and surface specificity of the infrared method has also enabled transient temperature changes which take place just after ignition to be observed.
