Unavoidably a single volume cannot be exhaustive. but the present book contains a sufficient number of important real-time applications. The book is divided in two sections. Section I deals with general hardware. software and systemic topics. and involves six chapters. Chapter 1. by Gupta and Toong. presents an overview of the development of microprocessors during their first twelve years of existence. Chapter 2. by Dasgupta. deals with a number of system software concepts for real time microprocessor-based systems (task scheduling. memory management. input-output aspects. programming language reqUirements.

Book Automation and Control Architecture for Hybrid Pipeline Robots

Download or read book Automation and Control Architecture for Hybrid Pipeline Robots written by Graciela Monica Becci and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this research project, towards the automation of the Hybrid Pipeline Robot (HPR), is the development of a control architecture and strategy, based on reconfiguration of the control strategy for speed-controlled pipeline operations and self-recovering action, while performing energy and time management. The HPR is a turbine powered pipeline device where the flow energy is converted to mechanical energy for traction of the crawler vehicle. Thus, the device is flow dependent, compromising the autonomy, and the range of tasks it can perform. The control strategy proposes pipeline operations supervised by a speed control, while optimizing the energy, solved as a multi-objective optimization problem. The states of robot cruising and self recovering, are controlled by solving a neuro-dynamic programming algorithm for energy and time optimization, The robust operation of the robot includes a self-recovering state either after completion of the mission, or as a result of failures leading to the loss of the robot inside the pipeline, and to guaranteeing the HPR autonomy and operations even under adverse pipeline conditions Two of the proposed models, system identification and tracking system, based on Artificial Neural Networks, have been simulated with trial data. Despite the satisfactory results, it is necessary to measure a full set of robot?s parameters for simulating the complete control strategy. To solve the problem, an instrumentation system, consisting on a set of probes and a signal conditioning board, was designed and developed, customized for the HPR?s mechanical and environmental constraints. As a result, the contribution of this research project to the Hybrid Pipeline Robot is to add the capabilities of energy management, for improving the vehicle autonomy, increasing the distances the device can travel inside the pipelines; the speed control for broadening the range of operations; and the self-recovery capability for improving the reliability of the device in pipeline operations, lowering the risk of potential loss of the robot inside the pipeline, causing the degradation of pipeline performance. All that means the pipeline robot can target new market sectors that before were prohibitive.

Download or read book Modeling and Control of a Tracked Mobile Robot for Pipeline Inspection written by Michał Ciszewski and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-03-18 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes the design, mathematical modeling, control system development and experimental validation of a versatile mobile pipe inspection robot. It also discusses a versatile robotic system for pipeline inspection, together with an original, adaptable tracked mobile robot featuring a patented motion unit. Pipeline inspection is a common field of application for mobile robots because the monitoring of inaccessible, long and narrow pipelines is a very difficult task for humans. The main design objective is to minimize the number of robots needed to inspect different types of horizontal and vertical pipelines, with both smooth and rough surfaces. The book includes extensive information on the various design phases, mathematical modeling, simulations and control system development. In closing, the prototype construction process and testing procedures are presented and supplemented with laboratory and field experiments.

Book Detecting Leaks in Pipelines

Download or read book Detecting Leaks in Pipelines written by Edward J. Farmer and published by International Society of Automation. This book was released on 2017 with total page 502 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the brief history of automatic leak detection, perhaps 40 years, there has been a great deal of experimentation and conjecture along with the application of real and meaningful science and technology. This is not unusual in a young field, but it has interfered with the development of a broad understanding of the underlying concepts and realities. This book places the need for leak detection on pipelines in a societal context using both a regulatory and a risk-based approach. It develops the applicable science, starting with first principles. It explores the technology available for implementation, shows how to estimate and monitor performance, and discusses how to maintain and ensure consistency over time. This book is an excellent reference for professionals who develop and apply leak detection systems, as it discusses the fundamentals of leak detection science and technology, including the mathematics on which the fundamentals are based. It also includes key information about threats pipelines encounter, along with the underlying concepts, capabilities, and limitations of leak detection technology. This information will be of great value to regulators as well as to petroleum industry executives, safety and technology managers, and operations managers.
