Book Shades of Truth

Download or read book Shades of Truth written by Naomi Kinsman and published by Zonderkidz. This book was released on 2011-11-22 with total page 215 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sadie is a strong, extroverted 12-year-old who sees the move from Menlo Park, CA to Eagle’s Nest, MI as a grand adventure. In this new place, she can be whoever she wants to be. She has a strong relationship with her fun-loving dad, and together they work hard to help her mom, who is emotionally fragile. They both hope that this new place will be a fresh start for Sadie’s mom. Quickly Sadie learns she is not welcome in Eagle’s Nest. Her father, a mediator called in by the DNR, is tasked with creating compromise between the hunters in the community who think the bears are a nuisance and should be shot, and the scientist who is studying the bears. Sadie has never been on the outside and isn’t sure what to do with the hostile treatment from many of the kids at school. She connects with one girl at school, which helps, and also starts to befriend the (good-looking) son of the scientist. Sadie also meets a local artist, who recognizes Sadie’s talent and offers her art lessons. As Sadie learns to draw, she starts to see her community in a new way. Her art teacher takes her to Compline (evening prayers) and Sadie is drawn in by the mystery of it all. She starts asking questions about what she believes, both in terms of faith, and in terms of the issues in her community. When her father doesn’t stand up to the hunters in the way she thinks he should, she questions his values. The focus of this first book is on Sadie stumbling into questions of faith, wrestling with them, and becoming more comfortable in the space of not knowing all the answers.

Book The Sadie Sketchbook Collection

Download or read book The Sadie Sketchbook Collection written by Naomi Kinsman and published by Zonderkidz. This book was released on 2015-07-07 with total page 763 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this four-eBook bind-up of the Faithgirlz Sadie’s Sketchbook series by Naomi Kinsman, readers meet twelve-year-old Sadie Douglas. Sadie is a regular girl struggling with everyday things like friendships, moving, family, and faith … and relying on that faith to survive. This eBook collection includes: Shades of Truth: It’s Going to Be a Bear of a Year Sadie thought she’d have a perfect fresh start when she moved to Owl Creek, Michigan, but finding her place in her new school proves harder than she expected. In this divided town, Sadie’s father’s job mediating between bear hunters and researchers doesn’t help her social life. Sadie’s art instructor encourages her to explore her beliefs and express herself through her sketchbook, and things improve after Sadie befriends a kind girl from school and a researcher’s son---but she can’t stop worrying about the bears. As everything swirls around her, Sadie must learn what it means to have faith when you don’t have all the answers. Flickering Hope: Can You Ever Trust the Enemy? Things finally seem to be falling into place for Sadie. Bear season is over, and her relationship with her art teacher is on the mend. Her home life is going better than ever, and even her enemy, Frankie, wants to be friends. But can Frankie be trusted? Ruth and Andrew think she’s spying for her father, helping him find a way to capture Sadie’s favorite bear. But Sadie suspects something else is going on with Frankie. She must decide who to trust and find out if---and how---her growing faith can get her through. Waves of Light: Where is God when you need him? After struggling to fit into a new town and school, Sadie faces questions about her faith, family, and friendships, questioning all she has come to believe. Sadie’s life is spinning out of control. Her friend moved away, her mom remains ill, and her dad wants to leave town. At least the play Sadie is helping produce appears to be going well. After all, she gets to create the sets with her art teacher’s help. But even that falls apart when a flash flood destroys her teacher’s home and art. How can she trust or even believe in a God who would allow all this? God isn’t fair. With everything crumbling and her faith on the edge, Sadie must find strength in the God she’s questioning in order to hold on in the midst of her struggles. Brilliant Hues: Sketching A Whole New Life Won’t Be Easy Life comes full circle for Sadie as she heads back to Menlo Park, California. But Sadie finds she no longer fits in, especially when one of her dad’s cases thrusts her into the spotlight and puts her in danger. She turns to her faith, but the youth group just isn’t the same, and Sadie has a lot to think about when she hears what some kids believe. She returns to Owl Creek for a reprieve, but everything feels different. She just wants things to go back the way they used to be. Will her faith be strong enough to get her through?

  • Pages : 32 pages

Download or read book PIP breast implants written by Great Britain: Parliament: House of Commons: Health Committee and published by The Stationery Office. This book was released on 2012-07-02 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In February 2012 the Health Committee undertook an inquiry into 'PIP Breast implants and regulation of cosmetic interventions' (HC 1816, 16th report session 2010-12, ISBN 9780215043474). The Government response to that report (Cm. 8351, ISBN 9780101835121) is not commented upon here. This report follows on from the earlier conclusion that all possible evidence, including patient-reported experiences, must be gathered and analysed in order to inform the policy response to the issue. The timescale of the earlier inquiry did not allow evidence to be taken directly from those women affected. The Committee therefore established a web forum where women with PIP implants could explain how they had learned about the issues; what they had been told about their implants when they were provided; their experiences with their private providers once they had discovered they had PIP implants; and the support they received privately or from the NHS in having the implants removed or replaced. The web forum was open for comments during May 2012. By the time the forum closed to new comments on 31 may 2012, 194 women had registered with the forum and left 279 posts. By 24 June 2012 the forum had received over 4, 230 page views. This report summarises the responses received on the forum.
