Book Brain Imaging with MRI and CT

Download or read book Brain Imaging with MRI and CT written by Zoran Rumboldt and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2012-11-08 with total page 433 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most imaging books are ordered according to underlying etiology. However, in real life clinical practice, radiologists usually make their differential diagnoses according to the image patterns, as the etiology is often unknown. Brain Imaging with MRI and CT presents over 180 disease processes and normal variants, grouping entities by these basic patterns to accentuate differential diagnostic features. High quality CT and MRI scans show multiple typical and distinguishing images for each entity. Common and unusual clinical scenarios are described, including dilated perivascular spaces, capillary teleangiectasia, Susac's syndrome and desmoplastic infantile ganglioglioma. Both basic and advanced imaging techniques are used, reflecting the reality of clinical practice. This image-focused book emphasises the most pertinent clinical information relevant to the diagnostic process. Trainee and practising radiologists will find Brain Imaging with MRI and CT an invaluable and clinically relevant tool for learning and teaching.

Download or read book Pineal Region Tumors written by Tatsuya Kobayashi and published by Karger Medical and Scientific Publishers. This book was released on 2009-01-01 with total page 153 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The pineal region is an anatomic location where various intracranial tumors, in particular germ cell tumors and pineal parenchymal tumors, occur. Interestingly, pineal germ cell tumors are detected more frequently in Asian countries, including Japan, while pineal parenchymal tumors are less frequent in Asia than in the United States and Europe. This publication takes advantage of the knowledge and experience of Japanese experts in pineal tumors, with emphasis on epidemiology and pathological diagnosis. A variety of treatment modalities including radiotherapy, radiosurgery, surgical therapy and chemotherapy are also discussed. This valuable book will enhance the knowledge on pineal tumor treatment of not only neurosurgeons and radiation oncologists but also neurologists, neuro-oncologists, pediatricians and neuropathologists interested in pineal region tumors.

Book Adult Patient with Intraventricular Paraventricular Lesions and Pineal Region Lesions

Download or read book Adult Patient with Intraventricular Paraventricular Lesions and Pineal Region Lesions written by Mohamed Dablouk and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2024-08-31 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Intraventricular lesions are uncommon, and they can arise from numerous structures around the ventricular system, including the ependyma, septum pellucidum and choroid plexus. Pineal region lesions may arise from the pineal gland parenchymal/supporting cells or glial cells of the midbrain/medial thalamus. Many of these lesions are either found incidentally or present with symptoms of hydrocephalus. Careful assessment of the clinical and radiological features of each case can help to narrow the differential diagnosis in this heterogenous group of tumours.

Book Lesions of the Cerebral Midline

Download or read book Lesions of the Cerebral Midline written by W.T. Koos and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 131 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This supplement to "Acta Neurochirurgica" contains a selection of papers which were presented at the 9th Scientific Meeting of the European Society for Paediatric Neurosurgery on Space Occupying Lesions of the Cerebral Midline in Vienna, October 10-13,1984. This meeting was arranged at the same location where the ESPN was founded exactly seventeen years ago. Although the presentations in this meeting dealt with numerous important problems encountered in paediatric neurosurgery, the main emphasis was on that special problem which exemplifies the extraordinary advances in paediatric neurosurgery and its related fields. Therefore the main topic of this scientific meeting was dedicated to the subject of "Space Occupying Lesions of the Cerebral Midline". Recent diagnostic procedures, such as computerized axial tomography and magnetic resonance imaging, now enable the neurosurgeon preoperatively, to obtain precise data on the location, and in many cases also on the nature of a lesion deep within the brain. Fundamental new knowledge in neuroanatomy and neurotopography has now transformed previous high-risk procedures into routine ones for the neurosurgeon, and an abundance of new surgical techniques has improved the success rate in the treatment of many patients. The scientific meetings of the ESPN have proved to be a successful forum for the exchange of experiences, opinions and even critical discussions. The present selection of papers will undoubtedly support this endeavour. Wolfgang T. Koos Gerhard Pendl Contents A. Authored by a leading neuroradiologist, this landmark publication provides neuroradiologists with clinical neurological correlates and neurologists with imaging correlates for all key neurological conditions. Organised by brain region, each chapter contains an introductory section of clinically relevant neuroanatomy followed by a series of case studies giving: • Brief history and summary of findings • Differential diagnosis • Imaging findings, related to clinical deficits • Pertinent neuronal circuits, neurochemistry and neurogenetics • Basic therapeutic approaches to each syndrome Due to its utility in demonstrating structural-functional correlates, a separate chapter on stroke is included. Lavishly illustrated with images from all modalities and outstanding anatomical diagrams rendered in true radiographic (rather than 'upside-down' anatomic) orientation, Clinical Neuroradiology is an invaluable resource for everyone involved in the diagnosis and management of neurological disorders.

Book Discovering the Brain

  • Pages : 195 pages

Download or read book Discovering the Brain written by National Academy of Sciences and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1992-01-01 with total page 195 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The brain ... There is no other part of the human anatomy that is so intriguing. How does it develop and function and why does it sometimes, tragically, degenerate? The answers are complex. In Discovering the Brain, science writer Sandra Ackerman cuts through the complexity to bring this vital topic to the public. The 1990s were declared the "Decade of the Brain" by former President Bush, and the neuroscience community responded with a host of new investigations and conferences. Discovering the Brain is based on the Institute of Medicine conference, Decade of the Brain: Frontiers in Neuroscience and Brain Research. Discovering the Brain is a "field guide" to the brainâ€"an easy-to-read discussion of the brain's physical structure and where functions such as language and music appreciation lie. Ackerman examines: How electrical and chemical signals are conveyed in the brain. The mechanisms by which we see, hear, think, and pay attentionâ€"and how a "gut feeling" actually originates in the brain. Learning and memory retention, including parallels to computer memory and what they might tell us about our own mental capacity. Development of the brain throughout the life span, with a look at the aging brain. Ackerman provides an enlightening chapter on the connection between the brain's physical condition and various mental disorders and notes what progress can realistically be made toward the prevention and treatment of stroke and other ailments. Finally, she explores the potential for major advances during the "Decade of the Brain," with a look at medical imaging techniquesâ€"what various technologies can and cannot tell usâ€"and how the public and private sectors can contribute to continued advances in neuroscience. This highly readable volume will provide the public and policymakersâ€"and many scientists as wellâ€"with a helpful guide to understanding the many discoveries that are sure to be announced throughout the "Decade of the Brain."
