Book Hughes XF 11 Pilot s Flight Operating Instructions

Download or read book Hughes XF 11 Pilot s Flight Operating Instructions written by U.S. Army Air Force and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2008-09-01 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The XF-11 was originally conceived as a dedicated reconnaissance aircraft, capable of high-speed penetration of enemy defenses. The plane's design benefited from research work by its builder, the brilliant and sometimes mercurial Howard Hughes. Inspired by an experimental aircraft he had created known as the DX-2, Hughes' XF-11 was a twin-engine, twin-boom, tricycle gear monoplane that featured a pressurized nacelle for its crew and 28-cylinder engines with contra-rotating props. Hughes piloted the XF-11 on its maiden flight, and was nearly killed when one of the props reversed pitch, and the plane crashed. Hughes recovered and piloted a second prototype, this one outfitted with conventional props, but the Air Force had already made up its mind: the XF-11 would never enter service. Originally printed by Hughes and the Air Force this handbook provides a fascinating glimpse inside the cockpit of this plane. This manual is declassified.

Book T 38 Talon Pilot s Flight Operating Instructions

Download or read book T 38 Talon Pilot s Flight Operating Instructions written by United States Air Force and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2009-02-01 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Northrop¿s T-38 Talon was the world¿s first supersonic trainer aircraft, and remains in service today in air forces worldwide. It entered service in 1961, and quickly set climb records, earning it the nickname ¿white rocket¿. Nearly 1200 Talons were produced before the last one rolled off the assembly line in 1972. Capable of a speed of Mach 1.3, and a climb rate approaching 34,000 feet per minute, the T-38¿s performance was sufficient to warrant service as the USAF Thunderbirds¿ aircraft in the mid-1970s. Its primary role however, was as a dedicated training and proficiency platform. More than 50,000 USAF, NASA and NATO pilots have flown the Talon, a record that may never be matched. Originally printed by the U.S. Air Force and Northrop, this handbook for the T-38 provides a fascinating glimpse inside the cockpit of this famous aircraft. Originally classified ¿restricted¿, the manual was recently declassified and is here reprinted in book form.

Book PT 19 PT 23 and PT 26 Airplanes Pilot s Flight Operating Instructions

Download or read book PT 19 PT 23 and PT 26 Airplanes Pilot s Flight Operating Instructions written by United States Army Air Force and published by . This book was released on 2011-02 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As late as 1940, the majority of Army Air Force trainees received flight lessons in biplanes such as the PT-17. The advent of high-performance combat aircraft led the USAAF to seek a new plane for primary training, that would better simulate a modern fighter aircraft. Fairchild's M62, a two-seat monoplane with a higher stalling speed that required careful flying, beat out 17 competitors for the job. Designated PT-19, the rugged aircraft was produced in large quantities beginning in 1941. The basic model was equipped with a 200 hp Ranger engine, had a 36'wingspan, and could achieve 132 mph in flight. Variants included the PT-19B designed for instrument training, the PT-23 which had a 220 hp Continental radial power-plant, and the PT-26 "Cornell" which featured an enclosed cockpit. By war's end PT-19s and variants were built by Fairchild, Aeronca, Howard, St. Louis Aircraft Corp. and Fleet Aircraft. The USAAF accepted over 6000 PT-19s and variants, and Cornells flew for the air forces of Canada, Norway, Brazil, Ecuador, Chile and many other nations. This pilot's flight handbook dates from 1943, and covers the PT-19, PT-19A, PT-19B, PT-23 and PT-26. Originally restricted, it was declassified long ago, and is reprinted here in its entirety.

Book North American X 15 Pilot s Flight Operating Instructions

Download or read book North American X 15 Pilot s Flight Operating Instructions written by North American Aviation and published by Periscope Film LLC. This book was released on 2010-01 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: North American Aviation's X-15 rocket plane flew at Mach 6.72 and at altitudes above 67 miles -- at the threshold of space. The men who piloted this amazing plane became the USAF's first astronauts. Powered by an XLR-99 engine capable of producing 70,000 pounds of thrust at peak altitude, the X-15 pushed the flight envelope for manned aircraft past the post office. Notably, both Apollo astronaut Neil Armstrong and Space Shuttle commander Joe Engle piloted the X-15. Originally published by North American for the USAF and later NASA, this Flight Operating Handbook represents a 1963 update of the original version first printed in 1961. Just recently declassified, it provides a revealing look into one of history's great planes. Also included in this edition is a rare X-15 rescue manual made for the plane's ground crew. Download or read book Cockpit Procedures written by Chris R. Burger and published by Aviation Supplies & Academics. This book was released on 2008 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written by an experienced instructor and pilot examiner, "Cockpit Procedures: Effective Routines for Pilots and Virtual Aviatos" provides a solid understanding of the underlying principles for, and detailed descriptions of the checklists and routines used in many flight schools. Readers will find it contains a practical definition of airmanship, and covers what good habits to develop, effective workload management, and even what you should have in your flight bag. Cockpit Procedures is about cockpit actions and thinking, giving readers the rationale behind common procedures that are standard practice in the training environment and in the airlines. Both airplanes and helicopters are covered, delivering the essential aspects of effective training -- technical knowledge, practical application and context learning. Cockpit Procedures targets the pilot just beginning his/her career, yet many of the philosophies and practical techniques taught here are so fundamental and powerful they will carry a pilot right through to retirement. While encouraging structure and discipline regarding procedures, the author does not merely check off lists of dry facts -- Cockpit Procedures is also fun to read and Chris Burger keeps his readers focused with lively description and his knack for getting down to essentials in such a way that they stay with you. Getting the most from Cockpit Procedures: --Student pilots can read the book repeatedly to reinforce the routines that their flight instructors are trying to teach them. Arriving prepared is the best way to obtain maximum benefit from expensive flight instruction. --Certificated pilots can learn to become more methodical, reducing the chances of missing important cues when things go wrong. They can also become more adaptable, easing the transition into other, more complex aircraft. --Flight instructors can use the book to great effect to improve their students' performance in the cockpit, and to standardize operations in a flight school to improve cooperation among instructors. --Virtual aviators can learn to conduct a flight with maximum realism, using actual procedures used in the cockpits of real airplanes and helicopters.
