Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The discovery of purpose, the dynamic of freedom, and the drive of faith all converge in the life of Michael Sattler - a little-known reformer. Here is a person who strides across the pages of history, leaving behind a new radiance as one who carries a torch. The sixteenth-century Reformation marked the beginning of what we call today "the modern period," for it was the harbinger of the "enlightenment." In that testing time men struggled and prayed, bled and died, proving how deeply they believed and how far-reaching was their vision. Michael Sattler, prior of a Benedictine monastery, converted under the impact of Luther's reforming, convicted of the existential character of faith, joined the emerging "free church" movement. He helped the "radicals" achieve a program which changed the lives of thousands, and jarred the "new Europe" to its very foundations. Supplying leadership in both dialogue and doctrine, hated by Protestant and Catholic alike for his stand, he paid the ultimate price at the stake in Rottenburg in May, 1527. This is a historical novel introducing a creative leader in the rise of the Mennonite Church through the Anabaptist movement of the sixteenth century. For twentieth-century persons in search of identity, purpose, freedom, and meaning, Sattler's quest and achievement have much to offer. In a shattered world we can yet find the thread of meaning which will help us to be both new creatures in Christ and "our brother's brother." The character of a man's faith determines the caliber of his life.

Book The Pilgrim s Progress

Download or read book The Pilgrim s Progress written by and published by NavPress. This book was released on 2016-11-03 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What does walking with Jesus look like in this life? The Pilgrim’s Progress is one of the greatest Christian classics of all time, answering that question and illustrating the deepest struggles Christians face as they walk with God in this life. Since its publication in 1678, it has been the most widely read Christian book other than the Bible. From the dark confines of a prison cell, John Bunyan wrote a book that transformed not only his experience but that of millions after him. C. S. Lewis described it as “a book that has astonished the whole world.” Today, the power of the original book is often lost on twenty-first century readers. This edition provides a fresh and faithful rendering of this enduring Christian classic in today’s English. Experience a deepening of your faith as you journey along the pilgrim’s path!

Book No Strings Attached

    Book Details:
  • Author : Rachel Nafziger Hartzler
  • Publisher : Wipf and Stock Publishers
  • Release : 2013-04-30
  • ISBN : 1620321793

Download or read book No Strings Attached written by Rachel Nafziger Hartzler and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2013-04-30 with total page 345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: No Strings Attached is the story of a Mennonite congregation in Indiana that existed for eighty-six years. The congregation began during the social and religious turmoil of the 1920s when some Mennonites in North America held to rigid doctrines and ethics implemented by central authority, and others operated with a congregational polity and became more assimilated into secular culture. The struggle between these two different understandings of faithfulness was most passionately played out in northern Indiana. Placing the narrative of this congregation within the context of 500 years of Mennonite history illustrates the grace and the tension that has both beset and empowered a unique group of people who began as radical reformers. Although no strings attached refers to the women's headwear during the 1920s, which had no strings, it could also be the story of the pastor eating lunch on the peak of the steep roof of the church building! Reflecting on stories of these Mennonite people is an invitation to move into the future with courageous hope. Believing and behaving differently has not prevented Middlebury Mennonites from treating each other respectfully, living in a community of love, joy, and peace, and offering God's healing and hope to each other and to the world.

Book The Pilgrim s Prayer Life

Download or read book The Pilgrim s Prayer Life written by Pilgrim Preacher and published by Pilgrim Preacher. This book was released on 2021-12-04 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Comprehensive coverage of all aspects of the Prayer Life. A classic work that was originally taught as a series in a church setting, but which easily lends itself to a free-flowing and informative read on the subject of how to pray correctly to have prayers answered. Passages in the bible are handled expertly making the connection between our prayer life and our daily life. Extracts from the Book "The greatest thing that we can do for God and man is to pray. We would no doubt accomplish more each day that is of value if we remained in communion with the living God. Just imagine what an army of prayer warriors could do in this nation. What actions would they set off? What strings would they strum that would vibrate like a sweet melody into eternity? What souls would be in Heaven because of such mission-minded musicians? Prayer produces fruit to our account. Prayer goes behind the scenes and works internally. Prayer is our secret, invisible weapon by which we can penetrate the enemy’s territory and begin to reclaim it for God." “And it came to pass, that, as He was praying in a certain place when He ceased, one of His disciples said unto Him, ‘Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.” Luke 11:1 Here, Jesus is shown to be engaged in prayer within earshot of his followers. When He ceases, they are absolutely astonished to have heard this soul-stirring conversation with the Father above. “Lord, teach us to pray!” This is the best request you and I can have when it comes to the prayer realm. For if we are to pray correctly, we must be taught correctly, and what higher place of learning is there than sitting at the feet of Jesus, the Master? What world-acclaimed bible seminary; what university; what religious guru can ever hope to touch the hem of Jesus’ garment? God must teach us to pray and avoid the pitfalls. Oh, you might know all there is to know about prayer - all the facts and figures - but there is another world in being taught to pray by the Son of God. May we sit at Jesus's feet and say: “LORD, teach us to pray!” Readers Feedback “What a book on prayer! Once taken up, it is hard to put down. This book has so much golden advice on how to pray and receive answers from God. Highly recommend!” P Saunders “Loved this book. The author has a way with words that makes this book an entertaining and enlightening read. Best investment ever if you want revival.” J Montgomery With over thirty-five years of theological experience and e-books distributed in online bookstores, the Pilgrim Preacher is your one-stop shop for sermons, bible lessons, and devotions.
