Whilst I was waiting for Cousin Martin's conveyance, I examined the icy crust of the snow. It was not yet broken, but in many places near my house was so thin, that I could break it with my hand. The water was already running freely in narrow channels across the glassy surface. The rain had ceased, though occasionally a few drops were forced through the air by the wind.
