Book Islam Secularism and Liberal Democracy

Download or read book Islam Secularism and Liberal Democracy written by Nader Hashemi and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2009-04-08 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Islam's relationship to liberal-democratic politics has emerged as one of the most pressing and contentious issues in international affairs. In Islam, Secularism, and Liberal Democracy, Nader Hashemi challenges the widely held belief among social scientists that religious politics and liberal-democratic development are structurally incompatible. This book argues for a rethinking of democratic theory so that it incorporates the variable of religion in the development of liberal democracy. In the process, it proves that an indigenous theory of Muslim secularism is not only possible, but is a necessary requirement for the advancement of liberal democracy in Muslim societies.

Book Il nuovo diritto internazionale privato europeo delle successioni

Download or read book Il nuovo diritto internazionale privato europeo delle successioni written by Angelo Davi' and published by G Giappichelli Editore. This book was released on 2014-09-18 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Successioni transfrontaliere tra diritto interno e diritto internazionale written by Costanza Marrese and published by Key Editore. This book was released on 2019-09-20 with total page 183 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Educational Jobs Youth and Employability in the Social Economy

Download or read book Educational Jobs Youth and Employability in the Social Economy written by Vanna Boffo and published by Firenze University Press. This book was released on 2015-11-27 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Europe the social economy employs almost 15 million workers. During the crisis years, unlike other sectors, it has often generated an increase in jobs. The aim of this comparative study is to investigate how to allow the supply and demand for young people to meet in the different types of social economy bodies. In particular, it concentrates on the problem of how to bring into line initial university training and the skills required by these organizations. The focus is placed on the varied family of training workers present in at least 75% of the organizations, whose professionalism is nevertheless rarely acknowledged. The papers proposed in this book try to identify the most suitable solutions at the level of curriculum, career development and accompanying measures, while drawing solutions from objective findings and not from training system needs or convictions.

Book A South African Convivio with Dante

Download or read book A South African Convivio with Dante written by Sonia Fanucchi and published by Firenze University Press. This book was released on 2021-12-07 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a collection of South African university students’ written responses to the Commedia and scholars’ commentary on them. The students’ collection includes writings of all genres and subjects: prose, poetry, personal reflection, dialogue, non-fiction based on the first two cantiche of the Commedia. Some are autobiographical and others are fictional stories, but they all have in common a very personal (and South African) approach to Dante’s text. The scholarly essays of the second part are concerned with the unusual way in which Dante is appreciated by our youth: not as a remote figure only encountered in the hallways of the literature department, but as an intimate presence, a guide, a friend whose language is familiar and invites a response.

Book Remov d from human eyes Madness and Poetry 1676 1774

Download or read book Remov d from human eyes Madness and Poetry 1676 1774 written by Natali, Ilaria and published by Firenze University Press. This book was released on 2016-08-30 with total page 275 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The years 1676 and 1774 marked two turning points in the social and legal treatment of madness in England. In 1676, London’s Bethlehem Hospital expanded in grand new premises, and in 1774 the Madhouses Act attempted to limit confinement of the insane. This study explores almost a century of the English history of madness through the texts of five poets who were considered mentally troubled according to contemporary standards: James Carkesse, Anne Finch, William Collins, Christopher Smart and William Cowper were hospitalized, sequestered or exiled from society. Their works cope with representations of insanity, medical definitions or practices, imputed illness, and the judging eye of the ‘sane other’, shedding new light on the dis/continuities in the notion of madness of this period.

Book From Vernacular to World Heritage

Download or read book From Vernacular to World Heritage written by Letizia Dipasquale and published by Firenze University Press. This book was released on 2022 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This publication brings together the results of the project 3DPAST: Living and virtual visiting European World Heritage, co-funded by the Creative Europe EU programme. The research highlighted the exceptional character and quality of living in vernacular dwellings found in World Heritage sites. This was possible by seizing the cultural space of European vernacular heritage, located in Pico island (Portugal), Cuenca town (Spain), Pienza (Italy), Old Rauma (Finland), Transylvania (Romania), Berat & Gjirokastra (Albania), Pátmos (Greece), and Upper Svaneti (Georgia). New digital realities grant the possibility to visit and to appreciate those places, to non-travelling audiences, who lack the opportunity to experience this unique heritage in situ. Creative potential is highlighted in 3D models and digital visualisations, which associate outstanding local knowledge with the vernacular expression of World Heritage.

Book Course notes on finite games and rational choice

Download or read book Course notes on finite games and rational choice written by Riccardo Bruni and published by Firenze University Press. This book was released on 2019-02-11 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book collects notes that were prepared for a university course taught in the Spring of 2018, and delivered to an audience of students enrolled in the Master course in Logic, philosophy and history of science of the University of Florence. The goal of the course was to introduce students to some basic concepts from the area of research generally known as decision theory. This is done by focussing on the concept of ‘rational choice’, which is analyzed, methodologically speaking, by the means of the theory of games. To minimize prerequisites it was decided to restrict the attention to the theory of finite games in particular. The topics treated are vary, and belongs to both the theory of games ‘in normal form’ as well as that of games ‘in extensive form’, as they are usually referred to. The classical issues in both fields, such as the theory of ‘equilibria’ and the study of properties such as determinacy, are carefully discussed to make them clear to beginners and are addressed from a novel perspective which makes use of formal methods that are typical of researches connected with the study of logic.
