  • Author : Muriel Seltman
  • Publisher : Routledge
  • Release : 2013-01-11
  • ISBN : 1135660999
  • Pages : 372 pages

Download or read book Piaget s Logic written by Muriel Seltman and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-01-11 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The literature relating to the work of Piaget is large and still growing. Some of it is Piagetian; some of it is critical. Most of this has been directed towards his experimental methodology and the conclusions drawn from it. The justification for the present contribution lies in what the authors believe to be the special embodiment in Piagetian thought of a central theme of our time. This theme is that the only possibility of truth lies in measurability and that knowledge is not recognisable unless it satisfies this criterion. This work is concentrated in the first instance on Piaget's claims that mental structures are exclusively logical mathematical in form, especially since this part of his work has received least attention. This book was first published in 1985.

Book The Learning Theory of Piaget and Inhelder

Download or read book The Learning Theory of Piaget and Inhelder written by Jeanette McCarthy Gallagher and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2002 with total page 364 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first compilation of research and concepts from genetic epistemology that directly addresses issues related to learning, The Learning Theory of Piaget and Inhelder emphasizes Piaget’s biological model and the importance of regulatory mechanisms, rather than stage theory. Consequently, the impact of feedback from observables in modifying the actions of a person engaged in an activity—an idea directly related to traditional learning theory—is a key concept in this book. Furthermore, this text uniquely addresses Barbel Inhelder’s important contributions to the Genevan School, particularly with respect to her empirical investigations of teaching-learning interactions and student strategizing. The book also summarizes Piaget’s latest thinking on equilibration as well as the Geneven studies on contradiction, awareness, reflexive abstraction, and correspondence as they relate directly or indirectly to learning of all children, including children with disabilities. Most significantly, this volume incorporates essential aspects of Piaget’s biological model that were previously available only in untranslated works. Finally, easily accessible speeches on developmental psychology, the theory of stages, problems of equilibration and creativity given by Piaget and Inhelder are included in their entirety. The foreword to the book was written by Piaget and Inhelder.

Book Piaget a Practical Consideration

Download or read book Piaget a Practical Consideration written by G. A. Helmore and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-15 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Piaget—A Practical Consideration deals with the general theories and work of Jean Piaget, with an account of a short follow up study of his work on the development of the concept of geometry. Piaget's theory concerning the general pattern of intellectual development in children is discussed, along with his study of children from two English primary schools in differing environments. This book is comprised of seven chapters and opens with a brief background on the life of Piaget and his approach to his work. The next chapter summarizes Piaget's general theories, including his concept of intelligence and its development; his studies of the progress made by children towards higher levels of equilibrium; and the Piagetian stages of development. The reader is then introduced to Piaget's experiments and their results on the development of the thought, language, and moral judgment of the child. The final chapter considers some recorded criticisms of Piaget's methods and maturation system. This monograph will be a useful resource for educators and psychologists.

Book Working with Piaget

    Book Details:
  • Author : Anastasia Tryphon
  • Publisher : Psychology Press
  • Release : 2013-05-13
  • ISBN : 1134839375
  • Pages : 250 pages

Download or read book Working with Piaget written by Anastasia Tryphon and published by Psychology Press. This book was released on 2013-05-13 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For fifty years Bärbel Inhelder (1913-1997) was the research companion of Jean Piaget. In this unique volume, published in her honour, leading international researchers examine the various aspects of her work and ideas and her contribution to developmental psychology. Following an initial chapter establishing Inhelder's stature as an independent researcher in her own right, the various research topics that she explored are reviewed and discussed with specific reference to her own perspective and in the chronological order in which she approached them. While the book explores Inhelder's work with her more famous colleague, it also highlights areas of research in which her ideas were at variance with those of Piaget, such as mental imagery, and areas in which her innovations have not been fully recognised, such as her discovery of the formal operations stage - an event usually attributed to Piaget - and her introduction of longitudinal studies in the field of cognitive development. Her research, viewpoint and contribution in other fields such as mental retardation, learning, and cross-cultural issues in development are also discussed. The final chapter, written by Inhelder herself, deals with experimental reasoning in children and adolescents and provides a glimpse of her creativity.

Book Fluency and Reading Comprehension in Typical Readers and Dyslexics Readers

Download or read book Fluency and Reading Comprehension in Typical Readers and Dyslexics Readers written by Simone A. Capellini and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2018-02-22 with total page 175 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reading involves decoding and comprehension components and, to become efficient, it requires a large number of cognitive and linguistic processes. Among those, the phonological awareness, the alphabetic principle, the decoding, the fluency, the lexical development and the text comprehension development. The reading comprehension is strongly related with the development of vocabulary, oral language, linguistic skills, memory skills and ability to make inferences, and the world experiences of each individual. These processes become important only when the professional needs to deal with students presenting difficulties in learning how to read. The difficulty using the knowledge of conversion rules between grapheme and phoneme to the word reading construction characterizes the dyslexia, which is a specific learning disorder with a neurological source. These difficulties presented by students with dyslexia interfere in their learning process impairing the learning development. Knowing and following the reading development and its processes, as well as obtaining the punctuation of fluency abilities and students comprehension allow us to understand what happens when the student presents difficulties to read. This could help in the identification of learning disabilities and in the development of intervention programs.

Book The Power of Place in Play

Download or read book The Power of Place in Play written by Christina R. Ergler and published by transcript Verlag. This book was released on 2020-03-31 with total page 405 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: »There's nothing really fun about the park in winter!« - Christina Ergler is the first one to explore why ›play‹ resonates differently across urban localities and seasons. She draws on Bourdieu's theory of practice and Gibson's affordance theory to show that determinants of seasonal outdoor play transcend modifiable barriers such as traffic and unsuitable play spaces as well as the inevitable issue of inclement weather. In contrast, seasonal play determinants are grounded in locally constituted beliefs about what is seasonally ›appropriate‹ children's activity. To foster a healthier and more sustainable life for children, outdoor play needs to become convenient all-year-round in all locations.

Book Assessment and Testing

Download or read book Assessment and Testing written by Harry Schofield and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-03-12 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1972, there were many ‘classics’ dealing with assessment and testing on the market at the time, but most of these left the inexperienced reader bewildered in the early stages, because of their size and insufficient explanation of the many technical terms used. There were a distinct lack of books which gave students in Colleges of Education dealing with psychology for the first time a simple explanation of basic terms in assessment and testing, and which introduced them briefly to the different types of tests available. Assessment and Testing aimed to fill this large gap. It looks at such key psychological terms as ‘sample’, ‘objectivity’, ‘subjectivity’, and such basic statistical terms such as ‘mean’, ‘standard deviation’, and ‘normal curve of distribution’. Because it assumes that the reader has no knowledge of such terms, it gives careful and simply illustrated explanations of each. In the same way, in simple language, with any technical terms explained and illustrated, it explains intelligence and personality tests, questionnaires, sociometric measures, projection techniques, and other areas of assessment and testing which every practising teacher will meet. The book aims to be essentially practical. It is appreciated all the time that the readers are those who will teach children. It is designed to provide a solid foundation upon which the reader can build later to augment his own experience of identifying children’s particular needs.

Book Reading and Writing for Civic Literacy

Download or read book Reading and Writing for Civic Literacy written by Donald Lazere and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-07-05 with total page 586 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Lazere's [book] is heaven-sent and will provide a crucial link in the chain of understanding how conflicts are structured and, most importantly, how they can be rationally addressed - a healthy antidote to the scepticism that has become so pervasive in academic life.' Alan Hausman, Hunter College This innovative book addresses the need for college students to develop critical reading, writing, and thinking skills for self-defence in the contentious arena of American civic rhetoric. In a groundbreaking reconception of composition theory, it presents a comprehensive critical perspective on American public discourse and practical methods for its analysis. Exercises following the text sections and readings help students understand the ideological positions and rhetorical patterns that underlie opposing viewpoints in current controversies - such as the growing inequality of wealth in America and its impact on the finances of college students - as expressed in paired sets of readings from the political left and right. Widely debated issues of whether objectivity is possible and whether there is a liberal or conservative bias in news and entertainment media, as well as in education itself, are foregrounded as topics for rhetorical analysis.
