Book excerpt: This publication reviews the current status of carbon dioxide (CO2) capture & storage technology development in Canada and the contribution that these technologies could make to greenhouse gas mitigation. It first describes what capture & storage of carbon emissions involves, including CO2 separation from industrial effluents, transportation of captured CO2 to a use or storage site, and sequestration of captured CO2 in geological reservoirs or oceans. It then discusses sources of CO2 emission & CO2 storage capacities available in Canada, strategic considerations involved in deployment of CO2 capture & storage technologies, current capture & storage initiatives in Canada, and international capture & storage activities of interest to Canada. The final sections outline a more ambitious program approach to implementing capture & storage technology in Canada as well as other actions needed for technology development.

Book Le captage du CO2

Download or read book Le captage du CO2 written by Fabrice Lecomte and published by Editions TECHNIP. This book was released on 2009-10 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Captage et stockage du CO2 written by Minh Ha-Duong and published by Editions Quae. This book was released on 2010-02-08 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

  • Author : Ian Havercroft
  • Publisher : Bloomsbury Publishing
  • Release : 2018-02-08
  • ISBN : 1509909605
  • Pages : 396 pages

Download or read book Carbon Capture and Storage written by Ian Havercroft and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2018-02-08 with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) is increasingly viewed as one of the most significant ways of dealing with greenhouse gas emissions. Critical to realising its potential will be the design of effective legal regimes at national and international level that can handle the challenges raised but without stifling a new technology of potential great public benefit. These include: long-term liability for storage; regulation of transport; the treatment of stored carbon under emissions trading regimes; issues of property ownership; and, increasingly, the sensitivities of handling the public engagement and perception. Following its publication in 2011, Carbon Capture and Storage quickly became required reading for all those interested in, or engaged by, the need to implement regulatory approaches to CCS. The intervening years have seen significant developments globally. Earlier legislative models are now in force, providing important lessons for future legal design. Despite these developments, the growth of the technology has been slower in some jurisdictions than others. This timely new edition will update and critically assess these updates and provide context for the development of CCS in 2018 and beyond.

Book Arsenic in Drinking Water

    Book Details:
  • Author : National Research Council
  • Publisher : National Academies Press
  • Release : 2001-11-26
  • ISBN : 0309170435
  • Pages : 241 pages

Download or read book Arsenic in Drinking Water written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2001-11-26 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Having safe drinking water is important to all Americans. The Environmental Protection Agency's decision in the summer of 2001 to delay implementing a new, more stringent standard for the maximum allowable level for arsenic in drinking water generated a great deal of criticism and controversy. Ultimately at issue were newer data on arsenic beyond those that had been examined in a 1999 National Research Council report. EPA asked the National Research Council for an evaluation of the new data available. The committee's analyses and conclusions are presented in Arsenic in Drinking Water: 2001 Update. New epidemiological studies are critically evaluated, as are new experimental data that provide information on how and at what level arsenic in drinking water can lead to cancer. The report's findings are consistent with those of the 1999 report that found high risks of cancer at the previous federal standard of 50 parts per billion. In fact, the new report concludes that men and women who consume water containing 3 parts per billion of arsenic daily have about a 1 in 1,000 increased risk of developing bladder or lung cancer during their lifetime.

Book Oxidative Stress and Redox Regulation

Download or read book Oxidative Stress and Redox Regulation written by Ursula Jakob and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-15 with total page 488 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many physiological conditions such as host defense or aging and pathological conditions such as neurodegenerative diseases, and diabetes are associated with the accumulation of high levels of reactive oxygen species and reactive nitrogen species. This generates a condition called oxidative stress. Low levels of reactive oxygen species, however, which are continuously produced during aerobic metabolism, function as important signaling molecules, setting the metabolic pace of cells and regulating processes ranging from gene expression to apoptosis. For this book we would like to recruit the experts in the field of redox chemistry, bioinformatics and proteomics, redox signaling and oxidative stress biology to discuss how organisms achieve the appropriate redox balance, the mechanisms that lead to oxidative stress conditions and the physiological consequences that contribute to aging and disease.
