Book excerpt: Part of Micozzi's Medical Guides to Complementary and Alternative Medicine series, this practical text provides a thorough introduction to classical homeopathic medicine--incorporating its unique view of health and disease, its place in the health care system, and homeopathic clinical practice. It evaluates this alternative system of medicine in terms of its clinical, scientific, philosophical, sociological, and historical contexts. In addition to a well-referenced, evidence-based research chapter, the book also addresses the practice of homeopathy, pharmacology, and specific applications of homeopathy. With its emphasis on scientific research, including discussions of clinical trial design, homeopathic theory, and clinical applications, this book serves as an informed, rational critique of this controversial subject. This introduction to homeopathy is scientifically grounded, written in terms appropriate for health professionals. Well-referenced content is clinically relevant and evidence-based, lending validity to the text. An appendix on specific clinical applications of homeopathy provides practical information for those referring patients for homeopathic treatment. The unique, comprehensive compilation of information on homeopathic medicine enables faculty to use it as a stand-alone text for health sciences students. Logical organization allows a segmented approach to studying various aspects of homeopathic medicine. Research summary and methodology discussion is useful for researchers considering investigations into homeopathy Information on how homeopathy is practiced and the application of principles in the clinical setting helps clinicians and patients understand the process of seeing a homeopath. Book Homeopathy in Healthcare

    Book Details:
  • Author : Gudrun Bornhöft
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2011-12-09
  • ISBN : 3642206379
  • Pages : 237 pages

Download or read book Homeopathy in Healthcare written by Gudrun Bornhöft and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-12-09 with total page 237 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume includes the full Health Technology Assessment (HTA) report on effectiveness, appropriateness, safety and costs of homoeopathy in health care. The report was commissioned by the Swiss health authorities to inform decision-making on the further inclusion of homoeopathy in the list of services covered by statutory health insurance. Other studies carried out as part of the Swiss Complementary Medicine Evaluation Programme (PEK) caused a massive stir due to their schematic and exclusively quantitative (negative-)outcomes for homoeopathy. The present report, in contrast, offers a differentiated evaluation of the practice of homoeopathy in health care. It confirms homoeopathy as a valuable addition to the conventional medical landscape – a status it has been holding for a long time in practical health care.

Book Complex Population Dynamics

Download or read book Complex Population Dynamics written by Bernd Blasius and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2007 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection of review articles is devoted to the modeling of ecological, epidemiological and evolutionary systems. Theoretical mathematical models are perhaps one of the most powerful approaches available for increasing our understanding of the complex population dynamics in these natural systems. Exciting new techniques are currently being developed to meet this challenge, such as generalized or structural modeling, adaptive dynamics or multiplicative processes. Many of these new techniques stem from the field of nonlinear dynamics and chaos theory, where even the simplest mathematical rule can generate a rich variety of dynamical behaviors that bear a strong analogy to biological populations.

Book European Evidence Warrant

Download or read book European Evidence Warrant written by John A. E. Vervaele and published by Intersentia nv. This book was released on 2005 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The transnational gathering and use of criminal evidence is a complex and sensitive matter that affects basic principles inherent in national criminal justice systems. Replacing the mutual assistance regime (letters rogatory) by a mutual recognition regime intends to facilitate the admissibility of evidence obtained from the territory of another Member State. How much harmonization of criminal procedure is needed to guarantee the free movement of criminal evidence in the EU? Do we have to develop common procedural safeguards in the EU, or can we build in human rights clauses or procedural public order clauses by which respect for fundamental rights can be a ground for the non-recognition, non-execution or postponement of the order from the issuing state? John Vervaele is Professor in Economic and Financial Criminal Law at the University of Utrecht and Professor in European Criminal Law at the College of Europe of Bruges. The main topics in his research field are: enforcement of Union law; standards of due law, procedural safeguards and human rights; criminal law and procedure an regional integration; comparative economic and financial criminal law. He has realized a lot of research in these areas, both for Dutch Departments and European Institutions and also worked as a consultant for them.

Book Medical Pluralism and Homoeopathy in India and Germany 1810 2010

Download or read book Medical Pluralism and Homoeopathy in India and Germany 1810 2010 written by Martin Dinges and published by Franz Steiner Verlag Wiesbaden gmbh. This book was released on 2014 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Medical Pluralism is by now recognized as a reality in many countries. Studies, however, bringing together anthropologists and historians working on this subject are still rare. A comparative view on Germany and India with their different patterns of institutionalisation of medical pluralism is particularly rewarding. This volume focuses on practices starting with the story of a Transsylvanian lay healer who functioned in Lahore as a cultural broker. Indigenising of homoeopathy in Bengal shows a particular mode of appropriation. Patients and their choices are considered for the late 19th and late 20th century Germany and in present day India. In addition to the practices of lay healers as health care providers in Bengal and in Indian slums, independent General Practitioners and physicians working in the public health care system are analysed too. A case study of an Indian hospital shows a pragmatic way to introduce medical pluralism into a modern "allopathic" institution. The political debate on medical pluralism e.g. in the German Reichstag in the beginning of the 20th century is also one of the topics. The book concludes with a theoretical reflection on the concept of medical pluralism.
