Book Pohl s Introduction to Physics

Download or read book Pohl s Introduction to Physics written by Klaus Lüders and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-07-13 with total page 541 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This classic textbook on experimental physics, written by Robert W. Pohl to accompany his famous lecture courses, served generations of physics and other science majors, not only in his native Germany, and was for many years a standard textbook. Pohl's lucid and memorable style and his consistent use of vivid demonstration experiments made his textbooks unique in their time. This completely revised and updated modern edition retains his style and clarity in an up-to-date format. The accompanying videos document the original demonstrations and add many modern touches, bringing to life the numerous illustrations in the book and providing an instructive and motivating complement to the text. They are linked to the corresponding topics in the text and can be accessed directly online from the e-book version. Volume I covers elementary mechanics, acoustics (vibrations and waves) and thermodynamics. The exercises provide an aid to understanding the material as well as complementary information. This book addresses students of physics and of other natural sciences and engineering, but also teachers and lecturers, who will profit from Pohl's many demonstration experiments, and other interested readers who want to gain an understanding of the fundamentals of physics from an experimental viewpoint.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fundamentals of Mechanics is Volume 1 of six-volume Calculus-based University Physics series, designed to meet the requirements of a two-semester course sequence of introductory physics for physics, chemistry, and engineering majors. The present volume focuses on building a good foundation in kinematics and dynamics. The emphasis is placed on understanding basic concepts of kinematics and equilibrium conditions of forces well before handling more difficult subject of dynamics. Concepts and ideas are developed starting from fundamental principles whenever possible and illustrated by numerical and symbolic problems. Detailed guided exercises and challenging problems help students develop their problem solving skills. The complete University Physics series (Volumes 1-6) covers topics in Mechanics, Gravitation, Waves, Sound, Fluids, Thermodynamics, Electricity, Magnetism, Optics, and Modern Physics. Appropriate volumes can be selected to provide students a solid foundation of introductory physics and make their transition into advanced courses easier. Volume 1: Fundamentals of Mechanics - Vectors, Kinematics, Newton's Laws of Motion, Impulse, Energy, Rotation, Physics in Non-inertial Frames. Volume 2: Applications of Mechanics - Newton's Law of Gravitation, Simple Harmonic Motion, Mechanical Waves, Sound, Stress and Strain in Materials, Fluid Pressure, Fluid Dynamics. Book An Introduction to Atmospheric Physics

Download or read book An Introduction to Atmospheric Physics written by Robert G. Fleagle and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 1981-01-09 with total page 449 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is addressed to those who wish to understand the relationship between atmospheric phenomena and the nature of matter as expressed in the principles of physics. The interesting atmospheric phenomena are more than applications of gravitation, of thermodynamics, of hydrodynamics, or of electrodynamics; and mastery of the results of controlled experiment and of the related theory alone does not imply an understanding of atmospheric phenomena. This distinction arises because the extent and the complexity of the atmosphere permit effects and interactions that are entirely negligible in the laboratory or are deliberately excluded from it. the objective of laboratory physics is, by isolating the relevant variables, to reveal the fundamental properties of matter; whereas the objective of atmospheric physics, or of any observational science, is to understand those phenomena that are characteristic of the whole system. For these reasons the exposition of atmospheric physics requires substantial extensions of classical physics. It also requires that understanding be based on a coherent "way of seeing" the ensemble of atmospheric phenomena. Only then is understanding likely to stimulate still more general insights.

Book excerpt: University Physics is designed for the two- or three-semester calculus-based physics course. The text has been developed to meet the scope and sequence of most university physics courses and provides a foundation for a career in mathematics, science, or engineering. The book provides an important opportunity for students to learn the core concepts of physics and understand how those concepts apply to their lives and to the world around them. Due to the comprehensive nature of the material, we are offering the book in three volumes for flexibility and efficiency. Coverage and Scope Our University Physics textbook adheres to the scope and sequence of most two- and three-semester physics courses nationwide. We have worked to make physics interesting and accessible to students while maintaining the mathematical rigor inherent in the subject. With this objective in mind, the content of this textbook has been developed and arranged to provide a logical progression from fundamental to more advanced concepts, building upon what students have already learned and emphasizing connections between topics and between theory and applications. The goal of each section is to enable students not just to recognize concepts, but to work with them in ways that will be useful in later courses and future careers. The organization and pedagogical features were developed and vetted with feedback from science educators dedicated to the project. Book Fluid Mechanics

Download or read book Fluid Mechanics written by L D Landau and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-09-03 with total page 556 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fluid Mechanics, Second Edition deals with fluid mechanics, that is, the theory of the motion of liquids and gases. Topics covered range from ideal fluids and viscous fluids to turbulence, boundary layers, thermal conduction, and diffusion. Surface phenomena, sound, and shock waves are also discussed, along with gas flow, combustion, superfluids, and relativistic fluid dynamics. This book is comprised of 16 chapters and begins with an overview of the fundamental equations of fluid dynamics, including Euler's equation and Bernoulli's equation. The reader is then introduced to the equations of motion of a viscous fluid; energy dissipation in an incompressible fluid; damping of gravity waves; and the mechanism whereby turbulence occurs. The following chapters explore the laminar boundary layer; thermal conduction in fluids; dynamics of diffusion of a mixture of fluids; and the phenomena that occur near the surface separating two continuous media. The energy and momentum of sound waves; the direction of variation of quantities in a shock wave; one- and two-dimensional gas flow; and the intersection of surfaces of discontinuity are also also considered. This monograph will be of interest to theoretical physicists.
