Book Physics Beyond the Light Barrier

Download or read book Physics Beyond the Light Barrier written by Stephen Blaha and published by . This book was released on 2007-01-01 with total page 101 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 1. We show that tachyons exist within Black Holes. 2. We extend Special Relativity to include left-handed (Superluminal) transformations to reference frames moving at relative velocities greater than the speed of light. This set of transformations forms a group that includes the Lorentz group as an invariant subgroup. The speed of light does not change under the transformations of this group. We find new features in frames moving at a relative speed greater than the speed of light such as length dilation, time contraction, and tachyons decaying into more massive tachyons - "reverse fission." 3. Using the (Superluminal) transformations of this enlarged group we are able to define tachyons of half-integer or integer spin. We show these tachyons are local and satisfy canonical commutation relations in light-front coordinates (the "infinite momentum" frame). Thus a standard quantization procedure is possible and a conventional light-front perturbation theory can be constructed. 4. Free spin 1/2 tachyons violate parity and CPT but do not violate C or T invariance. 5. The requirement of Left-handed Extended Lorentz group covariance implies an extended Dirac equation for spin 1/2 particles with doublets of spin 1/2 particles: a Dirac particle and a tachyon. We identify neutrinos with tachyon members of lepton doublets, and "d-type" quarks with tachyon members of quark doublets. 6. Further considerations lead to most features of the Standard Model for one generation of leptons and quarks. Thus the general form of the Standard Model, including a rationale for the form of parity violation, SU(2)?U(1), and left-handed doublets and right-handed singlets, is derived. 7. The theory requires quark confinement. The theory does not explain the existence of three generations or the mixing of generations. SU(3) is found to be the minimal symmetry group of the strong interaction if spin 1/2 baryon bound states are t

Book Faster Than Light

  • Author : Nick Herbert
  • Publisher : Penguin

  • Pages : 225 pages

Download or read book Faster Than Light written by Nick Herbert and published by Penguin. This book was released on 1989-11-30 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Even though most physicists believe that the speed of light is as fast as anyone can go, Einstein's theory of special relativity does not rule out faster-than-light (FTL) travel. On the contrary, it seems to indicate that certain superluminal or FTL effects would permit us to re-experience the past: time travel would become a reality, not science fiction. Through this crack in the cosmic egg steps Herbert, a Stanford physicist and author of Quantum Reality, who summarizes clearly current speculation and theory about faster-than-light travel. Along with space warps, black holes and tachyons (hypothetical FTL particles), he looks at the so-called 'quantum connection'—an alleged force said to instantaneously link any two subatomic particles long after they have bumped into each other. Free of the woolgathering that tints much writing on the 'new physics', this brave, exciting book should send scientists back to their drawing boards; for the nonspecialist reader, it reveals a world much stranger than Star Trek."—Publishers Weekly "Original, challenging, and audacious."—San Diego Magazine

Book True Physics of Light Beyond Relativity

Download or read book True Physics of Light Beyond Relativity written by Shailesh Kadakia and published by Matrix Writers for Knowledge. This book was released on 2010 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about the true science of light. Many physicists from the beginning of time have failed to obtain a clear understanding of the true nature of light, as it relates to different events, either occurring naturally or created by human effort. From our point of view, light behavior is simple and straightforward in the sense that the rules of Newtonian classical mechanics may be applied without incorporating any special considerations for light. The principles laid out in this book provide a rather simplistic point of view of several phenomena of a complex nature. Our sense of accomplishment and quest will be complete when physicists and astronomers redirect their resources to promote the ideas in this book and build a solid foundation for future space expeditions.

Book A User s Guide to the Universe

Download or read book A User s Guide to the Universe written by Dave Goldberg and published by Turner Publishing Company. This book was released on 2010-02-02 with total page 355 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Answers to science's most enduring questions from "Can I break the light-speed barrier like on Star Trek?" and "Is there life on other planets?" to "What is empty space made of?" This is an indispensable guide to physics that offers readers an overview of the most popular physics topics written in an accessible, irreverent, and engaging manner while still maintaining a tone of wry skepticism. Even the novice will be able to follow along, as the topics are addressed using plain English and (almost) no equations. Veterans of popular physics will also find their nagging questions addressed, like whether the universe can expand faster than light, and for that matter, what the universe is expanding into anyway. Gives a one-stop tour of all the big questions that capture the public imagination including string theory, quantum mechanics, parallel universes, and the beginning of time Explains serious science in an entertaining, conversational, and easy-to-understand way Includes dozens of delightfully groan-worthy cartoons that explain everything from special relativity to Dark Matter Filled with fascinating information and insights, this book will both deepen and transform your understanding of the universe.

Book excerpt: This English edition of a successful, proven title provides a sound scientific background, while allowing a popular presentation of the physics behind the strange and mysterious tunneling process. Based on his groundbreaking experiments, Prof Nimtz places the topic in a broader context by showing connections with other branches of physics. He and the team of authors begin by introducing such fundamental concepts as space and time and continue with tunneling phenomena from optics, nuclear and solid state physics. Avoiding mathematical equations and definitions altogether, they explain step-by-step the prerequisites for the tunnel effect to function, from classical mechanics to quantum mechanics, right up to modern topics, such as wormholes and space travel ? la Star Trek. With a foreword by astronaut Ulrich Walter, science team member of the D-2 Space Shuttle Mission.

Book Beyond the Light Barrier

Download or read book Beyond the Light Barrier written by Elizabeth Klarer and published by Light Technology Publishing. This book was released on 2009-06-06 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Beyond the Light Barrier is the autobiographical story of Elizabeth Klarer, a South African woman and Akon, an astrophysicist from Meton, a planet of Proxima Centuri that, at a distance of about 4.3 light years, is our nearest stellar neighbor. Elizabeth was taken in his spaceship to Meton, where she lived with him and his family for four months and where she bore his child. Her life on Meton is fascinatingly described. Akon brought Elizabeth back to Earth after the birth of their son, and continued to visit her thereafter. Akon explained how his spaceship's light-propulsion technology operated, and how it allowed him and his people to travel across vast interstellar distances. This technology is explained in detail in the book. Elizabeth was given a standing ovation at the 11th International Congress of UFO Research Groups at Weisbaden in 1975, and her speech as guest of honor was applauded by scientists of twenty-two nations. Light Technology Publishing is proud to bring you the long-awaited American edition in both hard copy and electronic format of Beyond the Light Barrier, which was first published in English in 1980

Book How to Build a Time Machine

Download or read book How to Build a Time Machine written by Paul Davies and published by Penguin UK. This book was released on 2002-06-06 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inspired at an impressionable age by the work of science fiction writers H.G.Wells and Arthur C Clarke, Paul Davies has thought long and hard about ways to travel in time. Here, the best-selling popular science writer finally reveals how it can be done - without breaking the laws of physics and without causing any earth-shattering paradoxes. Since time is money, time travel is a costly business. But with the help of a handy black hole, or better a wormhole, and a bit of luck, Davies's guide illustrates how this new mode of travel could yet be a viable option. Book excerpt: "Bucky Fuller thought big," Wired magazine recently noted, "Arthur C. Clarke thinks big, but Cliff Pickover outdoes them both." In his newest book, Cliff Pickover outdoes even himself, probing a mystery that has baffled mystics, philosophers, and scientists throughout history--What is the nature of time? In Time: A Traveler's Guide, Pickover takes readers to the forefront of science as he illuminates the most mysterious phenomenon in the universe--time itself. Is time travel possible? Is time real? Does it flow in one direction only? Does it have a beginning and an end? What is eternity? Pickover's book offers a stimulating blend of Chopin, philosophy, Einstein, and modern physics, spiced with diverting side-trips to such topics as the history of clocks, the nature of free will, and the reason gold glitters. Numerous diagrams ensure readers will have no trouble following along. By the time we finish this book, we understand a wide variety of scientific concepts pertaining to time. And most important, we will understand that time travel is, indeed, possible.
