  • Publisher : CRC Press
  • Release : 2006-11-10
  • ISBN : 9780849397790

Download or read book Continuum Mechanics written by Ellis H. Dill and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2006-11-10 with total page 382 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most books on continuum mechanics focus on elasticity and fluid mechanics. But whether student or practicing professional, modern engineers need a more thorough treatment to understand the behavior of the complex materials and systems in use today. Continuum Mechanics: Elasticity, Plasticity, Viscoelasticity offers a complete tour of the subject that includes not only elasticity and fluid mechanics but also covers plasticity, viscoelasticity, and the continuum model for fatigue and fracture mechanics. In addition to a broader scope, this book also supplies a review of the necessary mathematical tools and results for a self-contained treatment. The author provides finite element formulations of the equations encountered throughout the chapters and uses an approach with just the right amount of mathematical rigor without being too theoretical for practical use. Working systematically from the continuum model for the thermomechanics of materials, coverage moves through linear and nonlinear elasticity using both tensor and matrix notation, plasticity, viscoelasticity, and concludes by introducing the fundamentals of fracture mechanics and fatigue of metals. Requisite mathematical tools appear in the final chapter for easy reference. Continuum Mechanics: Elasticity, Plasticity, Viscoelasticity builds a strong understanding of the principles, equations, and finite element formulations needed to solve real engineering problems.

Book Finite Elasticity and Viscoelasticity

Download or read book Finite Elasticity and Viscoelasticity written by Aleksey D. Drozdov and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1996-01-01 with total page 464 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a systematic and self-consistent introduction to the nonlinear continuum mechanics of solids, from the main axioms to comprehensive aspects of the theory. The objective is to expose the most intriguing aspects of elasticity and viscoelasticity with finite strains in such a way as to ensure mathematical correctness, on the one hand, and to demonstrate a wide spectrum of physical phenomena typical only of nonlinear mechanics, on the other.A novel aspect of the book is that it contains a number of examples illustrating surprising behaviour in materials with finite strains, as well as comparisons between theoretical predictions and experimental data for rubber-like polymers and elastomers. The book aims to fill a gap between mathematicians specializing in nonlinear continuum mechanics, and physicists and engineers who apply the methods of solid mechanics to a wide range of problems in civil and mechanical engineering, materials science, and polymer physics. The book has been developed from a graduate course in applied mathematics which the author has given for a number of years.

Book Plasticity and failure behavior of solids

Download or read book Plasticity and failure behavior of solids written by George C. Sih and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1990-06-30 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: More than six years ago, several of Rabotnov's close friends and colleagues from the USSR and USA decided to contribute a volume on Plasticity and Failure of Solids in honor of his 70th birthday. The celebration was interrupted unexpectedly by his death on May 13, 1985 at which time another decision was made still to publish the work, but as a memorial volume. As in any field of scientific endeavor, research confronts the scientists with anomalies; our chosen area is no exception. The ways in which failure criteria and plasticity theory are combined can differ widely among the researchers; they will never yield quite the same results. Each of the invited contributors has, therefore, been encouraged to express his views and to expound on his personal opinion. The contributors are free of enumeration from the authority and/or consensus of any scientific society or community. What impedes scientific process is the esoteric tradition of accepting ideas and theories by consensus among members of societies and communities. The absence of such a trend is refreshing; the collaboration between the authors from the USSR and the USA had to be one of the contributing factors. Finally, the editors wish to acknowledge the authors who have made the publication of this volume possible. a. c. Sib S. T. Mileiko AJ. Book IUTAM Symposium on Transformation Problems in Composite and Active Materials

Download or read book IUTAM Symposium on Transformation Problems in Composite and Active Materials written by Yehia A. Bahei-El-Din and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-04-11 with total page 327 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The field of composite materials has seen substantial development in the past decade, New composite systems are being continually developed for various applications. Among such systems are metal, intermetallic, and superalloy matrix composites, carbon-carbon composites as well as polymer matrix composites. At the same time, a new discipline has emerged of active or smart materials, which are often constructed as composite or heterogeneous media and structures. One unifying theme in these diverse systems is the influence that uncoupled and coupled eigenfields or transformation fields exert on the various types of overall response, as well as on the respective phase responses. Problems of this kind are currently considered by different groups which may not always appreciate the similarities of the problems involved. The purpose of the IUTAM Symposium on Transformation Problems in Composite and Active Materials held in Cairo, Egypt from March 10 to 12, 1997 was to bring together representatives of the different groups so that they may interact and explore common aspects of these seemingly different problem areas. New directions in micromechanics research in both composite and active materials were also explored in the symposium. Specifically, invited lectures in the areas of inelastic behavior of composite materials, shape memory effects, functionally graded materials, transformation problems in composite structures, and adaptive structures were delivered and discussed during the three-day meeting. This book contains the printed contributions to the IUTAM Symposium.

Book Continuum Theory of Plasticity

Download or read book Continuum Theory of Plasticity written by Akhtar S. Khan and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 1995-02-28 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The only modern, up-to-date introduction to plasticity Despite phenomenal progress in plasticity research over the past fifty years, introductory books on plasticity have changed very little. To meet the need for an up-to-date introduction to the field, Akhtar S. Khan and Sujian Huang have written Continuum Theory of Plasticity--a truly modern text which offers a continuum mechanics approach as well as a lucid presentation of the essential classical contributions. The early chapters give the reader a review of elementary concepts of plasticity, the necessary background material on continuum mechanics, and a discussion of the classical theory of plasticity. Recent developments in the field are then explored in sections on the Mroz Multisurface model, the Dafalias and Popov Two Surface model, the non-linear kinematic hardening model, the endochronic theory of plasticity, and numerous topics in finite deformation plasticity theory and strain space formulation for plastic deformation. Final chapters introduce the fundamentals of the micromechanics of plastic deformation and the analytical coupling between deformation of individual crystals and macroscopic material response of the polycrystal aggregate. For graduate students and researchers in engineering mechanics, mechanical, civil, and aerospace engineering, Continuum Theory of Plasticity offers a modern, comprehensive introduction to the entire subject of plasticity.

This book was released on 2012-07-18 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Foundations of the Theory of Elasticity, Plasticity, and Viscoelasticity details fundamental and practical skills and approaches for carrying out research in the field of modern problems in the mechanics of deformed solids, which involves the theories of elasticity, plasticity, and viscoelasticity. The book includes all modern methods of research as well as the results of the authors’ recent work and is presented with sufficient mathematical strictness and proof. The first six chapters are devoted to the foundations of the theory of elasticity. Theory of stress-strain state, physical relations and problem statements, variation principles, contact and 2D problems, and the theory of plates are presented, and the theories are accompanied by examples of solving typical problems. The last six chapters will be useful to postgraduates and scientists engaged in nonlinear mechanics of deformed inhomogeneous bodies. The foundations of the modern theory of plasticity (general, small elastoplastic deformations and the theory of flow), linear, and nonlinear viscoelasticity are set forth. Corresponding research of three-layered circular plates of various materials is included to illustrate methods of problem solving. Analytical solutions and numerical results for elastic, elastoplastic, lineaer viscoelastic and viscoelastoplastic plates are also given. Thermoviscoelastoplastic characteristics of certain materials needed for numerical account are presented in the eleventh chapter. The informative book is intended for scientists, postgraduates and higher-level students of engineering spheres and will provide important practical skills and approaches.

Book The Mechanics of Finite Deformation with Applications in Metal Plasticity

Download or read book The Mechanics of Finite Deformation with Applications in Metal Plasticity written by Kerry S. Havner and published by . This book was released on 2024-07 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive background for analysis of the finite deformation of materials. It is intended for engineering scientists, applied mathematicians, and advanced students beginning their studies in the field. The book begins with the geometry of deformation and motion in finite straining. This is followed by the general theory of stress and stress measures (corresponding to each strain measure) and balance laws of continuum physics. Rotating reference frames and related issues of invariance, objective stress-rates, and material spin are then covered. Simple shearing examples illustrate and clarify stress and deformation measures in these chapters. Applications of the general equations to specific material behaviors are presented in chapters 4 to 6. Selected original experiments and nonlinear analyses are included, with precise attributions and numerous illustrations. Nonlinear elasticity of rubber, plastic deformation of polycrystalline metals, and multiple-slip (with additional kinematics) in metal crystals are also covered.
