Book Phase Equilibrium Engineering

Download or read book Phase Equilibrium Engineering written by Esteban Brignole and published by Elsevier Inc. Chapters. This book was released on 2013-04-02 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In previous chapters, we have seen the fundamental criteria for phase equilibria and how the phenomenological phase behavior and separation technology of real mixtures are determined by their constituent molecular interactions. Our purpose in this chapter is to present the properties of fluids and the models for the prediction of thermodynamic properties and phase equilibria. These models are classified as predictive models using only pure component properties and semiempirical models based on a molecular thermodynamic approach. Finally, the chapter highlights the importance of the class of mixture and molecular interactions of its components in the selection of thermodynamic models for phase equilibrium calculations.

Book Equilibrium Between Phases of Matter

Download or read book Equilibrium Between Phases of Matter written by H.A.J. Oonk and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-10-23 with total page 411 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first volume of this work is organized in three levels, so that the portion and importance of thermodynamics and mathematics increase from level to level. The ground level shows that basics of phase equilibria can be understood without thermodynamics provided the concept of chemical potential is introduced early. The intermediate level introduces thermodynamics, culminating in the Gibbs energy as the arbiter for equilibrium. At the third level the accent is on binary systems, where one or more phases are solutions of the components. Priority is given throughout to the thermodynamic assessment of experimental data. 200 exercises are included with solutions.

Book Phase Equilibria Phase Diagrams and Phase Transformations

Download or read book Phase Equilibria Phase Diagrams and Phase Transformations written by Mats Hillert and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1998-03-12 with total page 554 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook deals with the theoretical basis of chemical equilibria and chemical changes and emphasizes the properties of phase diagrams. He takes into account the dramatic changes in the methods of applying thermodynamics caused by the development both of computer operated programs for sophisticated equilibrium calculations and of extensive databases containing thermodynamic parameter values for individual phases from which all thermodynamic properties may be calculated. This new situation has inspired a new approach to the teaching of basic thermodynamics. Illustrative examples of thermodynamic modeling are also given, and the book contains many exercises and worked solutions. This modern text will be of value to undergraduate and graduate students in materials science and chemistry.

Book Phase Equilibria in Chemical Engineering

Download or read book Phase Equilibria in Chemical Engineering written by Stanley M. Walas and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 689 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Phase Equilibria in Chemical Engineering is devoted to the thermodynamic basis and practical aspects of the calculation of equilibrium conditions of multiple phases that are pertinent to chemical engineering processes. Efforts have been made throughout the book to provide guidance to adequate theory and practice. The book begins with a long chapter on equations of state, since it is intimately bound up with the development of thermodynamics. Following material on basic thermodynamics and nonidealities in terms of fugacities and activities, individual chapters are devoted to equilibria primarily between pairs of phases. A few topics that do not fit into these categories and for which the state of the art is not yet developed quantitatively have been relegated to a separate chapter. The chapter on chemical equilibria is pertinent since many processes involve simultaneous chemical and phase equilibria. Also included are chapters on the evaluation of enthalpy and entropy changes of nonideal substances and mixtures, and on experimental methods. This book is intended as a reference and self-study as well as a textbook either for full courses in phase equilibria or as a supplement to related courses in the chemical engineering curriculum. Practicing engineers concerned with separation technology and process design also may find the book useful.

Book Semiconductor and Metal Binary Systems

Download or read book Semiconductor and Metal Binary Systems written by V.M. Glazov and published by Springer. This book was released on 1989-06-30 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is devoted to the fundamentals of the theoretical analysis of phase equilibrium diagrams. Phase diagrams are known to play an important role in met allurgy and materials science, chemical engineering, petroleum refining, etc. A study of phase diagrams can help in choosing the optimal composition of mixtures and alloys and in determining the appropriate conditions for their thermal treatment, as well as in determining the efficiency of such processes as distillation, rectifica tion, zone refining, and controlled crystallization for the separation and purifi(;ation of materials. In spite of this, the extensive thermodynamic information which can be extracted from phase diagrams has scarcely been utilized until recently, due to the of the analysis of phase equilibria. comparatively poorly developed foundations We have attempted to present a general picture of the thermodynamic analysis of phase diagrams, and to demonstrate the broad possibilities of this approach in elucidating the nature of the interaction of the components and the structure of the phases. This book summarizes research carried out at the Moscow Institute of Electronic Engineering over the past decade. Extensive summaries of published data are also included. In the course of our work we have made extensive use of modern computing methods, which allowed solutions to be obtained to many problems.

Book Phase Equilibrium in Mixtures

Download or read book Phase Equilibrium in Mixtures written by M. B. King and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 604 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Phase Equilibrium in Mixtures deals with phase equilibrium and the methods of correlating, checking, and predicting phase data. Topics covered range from latent heat and vapor pressure to dilute solutions, ideal and near-ideal solutions, and consistency tests. Molecular considerations and their use for the prediction and correlation of data are also discussed. Comprised of nine chapters, this volume begins with an introduction to the role of thermodynamics and the criteria for equilibrium between phases, along with fugacity and the thermodynamic functions of mixing. The discussion then turns to some of the phase phenomena which may be encountered in chemical engineering practice; methods of correlating and extending vapor pressure data and practical techniques for calculating latent heats from these data; the behavior of dilute solutions both at low and high pressures for reacting and non-reacting systems; and the behavior of ideal and near-ideal solutions. The remaining chapters explore non-ideal solutions at normal pressures; practical methods for testing the thermodynamic consistency of phase data; and the extent to which the broad aspects of phase behavior may be interpreted in the light of simple molecular considerations. This book is intended primarily for graduate chemical engineers but should also be of interest to those graduates in physics or chemistry who need to use phase equilibrium data.

Book Phase Equilibrium Engineering

Download or read book Phase Equilibrium Engineering written by Esteban Alberto Brignole and published by Newnes. This book was released on 2013-04-02 with total page 347 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Traditionally, the teaching of phase equilibria emphasizes the relationships between the thermodynamic variables of each phase in equilibrium rather than its engineering applications. This book changes the focus from the use of thermodynamics relationships to compute phase equilibria to the design and control of the phase conditions that a process needs. Phase Equilibrium Engineering presents a systematic study and application of phase equilibrium tools to the development of chemical processes. The thermodynamic modeling of mixtures for process development, synthesis, simulation, design and optimization is analyzed. The relation between the mixture molecular properties, the selection of the thermodynamic model and the process technology that could be applied are discussed. A classification of mixtures, separation process, thermodynamic models and technologies is presented to guide the engineer in the world of separation processes. The phase condition required for a given reacting system is studied at subcritical and supercritical conditions. The four cardinal points of phase equilibrium engineering are: the chemical plant or process, the laboratory, the modeling of phase equilibria and the simulator. The harmonization of all these components to obtain a better design or operation is the ultimate goal of phase equilibrium engineering. Methodologies are discussed using relevant industrial examples The molecular nature and composition of the process mixture is given a key role in process decisions Phase equilibrium diagrams are used as a drawing board for process implementation
