Book Gasdynamic Lasers An Introduction

Download or read book Gasdynamic Lasers An Introduction written by John D. Jr. Anderson and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gasdynamic Lasers: An Introduction is a 12-chapter introductory text to major development generations of gasdynamic lasers, focusing on their underlying physical and fundamental aspects. The opening chapters discuss the basic detailed physical phenomena that ultimately are responsible for producing gasdynamic laser action and the methods of calculating the performance of these devices. These topics are followed by a chapter on confirmation of the performance calculations through arc and shock tunnel experiments. The discussion then shifts to vibrational relaxation process behind normal shock waves in CO2-N2-He mixtures and assesses their population inversions occurring in the nonequilibrium flow. Other chapters explore the concepts of downstream mixing and optical cavity in gasdynamic lasers, as well as the laser beam extracted from these devices. A systematic study of aerodynamic windows that use supersonic flow across the aperture is presented in the concluding chapters, along with the phenomena associated with gasdynamic laser diffusers. This introductory text will be of great value to professional scientists and engineers, as well as to students and workers in the field who are interested in interdisciplinary applied science.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present collection of articles sets forth the results of experimental research on physical processes in various types of optical quantum devices (lasers). Data are presented on the regulation of the temporal and spectral characteristics of solid-state lasers using a bleachable filter. A mode self-locking state is realized in which ultraflhort light pulses are emitted. The stimulated emission in a pinch discharge due to transitions of singly and doubly ion ized argon atoms in the visible and ultraviolet parts of the spectrum is investigated. Pulsed lasing associated with electron transitions in diatomic molecules at the leading edge of a power ful current pulse in a gas is subjected to systematic analysis. The book is aimed at a broad spectrum of scientists and engineers specializing in quan tum radiophysics. Book Gas Lasers

Download or read book Gas Lasers written by Masamori Endo and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-10-03 with total page 576 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lasers with a gaseous active medium offer high flexibility, wide tunability, and advantages in cost, beam quality, and power scalability. Gas lasers have tended to become overshadowed by the recent popularity and proliferation of semiconductor lasers. As a result of this shift in focus, details on modern developments in gas lasers are difficult to find. In addition, different types of gas lasers have unique properties that are not well-described in other references. Collecting expert contributions from authorities dealing with specific types of lasers, Gas Lasers examines the fundamentals, current research, and applications of this important class of laser. It is important to understand all types of lasers, from solid-state to gaseous, before making a decision for any application. This book fills in the gaps by discussing the definition and properties of gaseous media along with its fluid dynamics, electric excitation circuits, and optical resonators. From this foundation, the discussion launches into the basic physics, characteristics, applications, and current research efforts for specific types of gas lasers: CO lasers, CO2 lasers, HF/DF lasers, excimer lasers, iodine lasers, and metal vapor lasers. The final chapter discusses miscellaneous lasers not covered in the previous chapters. Collecting hard-to-find material into a single, convenient source, Gas Lasers offers an encyclopedic survey that helps you approach new applications with a more complete inventory of laser options.

Download or read book Gasdynamic Laser written by S. A. Losev and published by Springer. This book was released on 1981-06 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with gasdynamic lasers (GDL)-high-energy sources of co directional radiation. The theory and practice of gasdynamic lasers herent are based on three fields of modern science: quantum electronics, physico chemical kinetics, and gasdynamics. This circumstance has determined the content of this book, which can be divided into two parts. The first four which occupy a considerable part of the book, prepare the reader chapters, for discussing the theoretical and experimental results of up-to-date GDL studies. The necessity of such a presentation is dictated by the fact that gasdynamic lasers can be a subject of interest for readers who are experts one of the mentioned fields, or those who have just begun studying in only GDLs. Such a representation is based on the experience gained by the author over several years in delivering lectures on this subject to students of Moscow State University. These lectures fonned the basis of the book, which can also be used as a text. The basic information on gasdynamic lasers is contained in the last two chapters of the book. These chapters give mathematical models of processes occurring in existing high-energy infrared GDLs (C0 GDLs, carbon monoxide 2 GDLs, etc. ), experimental results for these lasers, and also consider some possible new designs of GDLs. Of greatest interest in this respect are the attempts to create recombination electronic GDLs and plasmadynamic lasers.

Book Principles of Lasers

  • ISBN : 1475762666

Download or read book Principles of Lasers written by Orazio Svelto and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 612 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is motivated by the very favorable reception given to the previous editions as well as by the considerable range of new developments in the laser field since the publication of the third edition in 1989. These new developments include, among others, quantum-well and muitiple-quantum-welliasers, diode-pumped solid-state lasers, new concepts for both stable and unstable resonators, femtosecond lasers, ultra-high-brightness lasers, etc. This edition thus represents a radically revised version of the preceding edition, amounting essentially to a new book in its own right. However, the basic aim has remained the same, namely to provide a broad and unified description of laser behavior at the simplest level which is compatible with a correct physical understanding. The book is therefore intended as a textbook for a senior-level or first-year graduate course and/or as a reference book. The most relevant additions or changes to this edition can be summarized as follows: 1. A much-more detailed description of Amplified Spontaneous Emission has been given (Chapter 2) and a novel simplified treatment of this phenomenon, both for homogeneous and inhomogeneous lines, has been introduced (Appendix C). 2. A major fraction of a new chapter (Chapter 3) is dedicated to the interaction of radiation with semiconductor media, either in a bulk form or in a quantum-confined structure (quantum-well, quantum-wire and quantum dot). 3.

Download or read book Gas Lasers written by E. W. McDaniel and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 486 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Applied Atomic Collision Physics, Volume 3: Gas Lasers describes the applications of atomic collision physics in the development of many types of gas lasers. Topics covered range from negative ion formation in gas lasers to high-pressure ion kinetics and relaxation of molecules exchanging vibrational energy. Ion-ion recombination in high-pressure plasmas is also discussed, along with electron-ion recombination in gas lasers and collision processes in chemical lasers. Comprised of 14 chapters, this volume begins with a historical summary of gas laser developments and an overview of the basic operating principles of major gas laser types. The discussion then turns to the mechanism of formation of negative ions in gas lasers; ion-ion recombination in high-pressure plasmas; electron-ion recombination in gas lasers; and collision processes in chemical lasers. Subsequent chapters focus on high-energy carbon dioxide laser amplifiers; spectroscopy and excited state chemistry of excimer lasers; rare-gas halide lasers; transient optical absorption in the ultraviolet; and pre-ionized self-sustained laser discharges. The final chapter considers the stability of excimer laser discharges. This book will be of interest to physicists and chemists.
