Book Physical Chemistry for the Biosciences

Download or read book Physical Chemistry for the Biosciences written by Raymond Chang and published by University Science Books. This book was released on 2005-02-11 with total page 706 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is ideal for use in a one-semester introductory course in physical chemistry for students of life sciences. The author's aim is to emphasize the understanding of physical concepts rather than focus on precise mathematical development or on actual experimental details. Subsequently, only basic skills of differential and integral calculus are required for understanding the equations. The end-of-chapter problems have both physiochemical and biological applications.

Book Physical Chemistry and Its Applications in Medical and Biological Science Classic Reprint

Download or read book Physical Chemistry and Its Applications in Medical and Biological Science Classic Reprint written by Alex Findlay and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-09-16 with total page 70 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Physical Chemistry and Its Applications in Medical and Biological Science The rapid development which has taken place in Physical Chemistry during the past two decades, and the success which has attended the application of physico chemical principles and methods to the study of problems in Medical and Biological Science, render it of essential importance for students and workers in these departments to become familiar with the chief facts and theories, as well as methods, of Physical Chemistry. As this Science is not usually included in the curri onlum of study imposed on students of the biological sciences generally, it was with pleasure that the writer acceded to a request to give a short course of lectures on the subject, having in View, more especially, the require ments of members of the medical profession. No attempt at completeness has been made, for that would have been impossible in the short space of time available; but rather the desire was to give an elementary introduction to the subject, with the hope of encouraging and facilitating a more systematic and thorough study of physical chemistry ou' the part of students of medicine and biology. Book Physical Chemistry of Vital Phenomena

Download or read book Physical Chemistry of Vital Phenomena written by J. F. McClendon and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-04 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Physical Chemistry of Vital Phenomena: For Students and Investigators in the Biological and Medical Sciences This book comprises a course of lectures and laboratory work given to graduate and advanced medical students in the University of Minnesota. The need for special teaching in the application of the simpler aspects of physical chemistry to biology was first realized by the author while attempting to teach physics and physiology to the same group of college students in 1906. A collection of abstracts of papers on the subject was commenced but interrupted by various affairs, especially the change to medical teaching. It became evident, however, that even medical students with a crowded curriculum would do well to devote any available time to this subject if they expect to do any research or read current medical literature. The purpose of the book is not to go far into physical chemistry but to develop a tool for physiological research. Lengthy discussions of debated questions arc avoided by tentatively accepting the hypothesis which fits the most facts, until a better one appears. For further discussion of any subject the reader is referred to the literature list and index. For facts, however, lie is referred to nature. It is not to be hoped that theories should coincide exactly with data available at present. Even in the most exact branches of chemistry the atomic weight determinations, for instance, do not exactly coincide with the values calculated from the atomic numbers, and there seems to be some doubt as to whether lead is one clement or several. How much more uncertainty there should be about physiology, where determinations are vitiated by the great variability of the material and its physiological states. The literature list was compiled from abstracts made in various libraries during the last ten years in addition to published abstracts and summaries. In some cases only part of a paper or the summary was read. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
