Book Physicochemical Methods of Mineral Analysis

Download or read book Physicochemical Methods of Mineral Analysis written by A. Nicol and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 515 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book has developed from a short residential course organised by the Department of Minerals Engineering and the Department of Extra Mural Studies of the University of Birmingham. The course was concerned mainly with physical methods of analysis of minerals and mineral products, and particular regard was given to 'non-destructive' methods, with special emphasis on newly available techniques but with a review of older methods and their recent developments included therein. Mineral analysis is obviously of great importance in all the stages of mineral exploration, processing, and utilisation. Selection of a method for a particular mineral or mineral product will depend upon a number of factors, primarily whether an elementary analysis or a phase or structure analysis is required. It will also depend upon the accuracy required. The chapters in the book covering the different methods show the range of useful applicability of the methods considered and should prove valuable as an aid or methods for a given set of circumstances. in selecting a suitable method The book, referring as it does to the majority of the instrumental methods available today (as well as, for comparison, a useful contribution on the place of classical wet chemical analysis) will be valuable to the student as well as to those analysts, research workers, and process engineers who are concerned with the winning, processing, and utilisation of minerals and mineral products.

Book Introduction to Mineralogy and Petrology

Download or read book Introduction to Mineralogy and Petrology written by Swapan Kumar Haldar and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2020-07-29 with total page 437 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Introduction to Mineralogy and Petrology, second edition, presents the essentials of both disciplines through an approach accessible to industry professionals, academic researchers, and students alike. This new edition emphasizes the relationship between rocks and minerals, right from the structures created during rock formation through the economics of mineral deposits. While petrology is classified on the lines of geological evolution and rock formation, mineralogy speaks to the physical and chemical properties, uses, and global occurrences for each mineral, emphasizing the need for the growth of human development. The primary goal is for the reader to identify minerals in all respects, including host-rocks, and mineral deposits, with additional knowledge of mineral-exploration, resource, extraction, process, and ultimate use. To help provide a comprehensive analysis across ethical and socio-economic dimensions, a separate chapter describes the hazards associated with minerals, rocks, and mineral industries, and the consequences to humanity along with remedies and case studies. New to the second edition: includes coverage of minerals and petrology in extra-terrestrial environments as well as case studies on the hazards of the mining industry. Addresses the full scope of core concepts of mineralogy and petrology, including crystal structure, formation and grouping of minerals and soils, definition, origin, structure and classification of igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks Features more than 250 figures, illustrations and color photographs to vividly explore the fundamental principles of mineralogy and petrology Offers a holistic approach to both subjects, beginning with the formation of geologic structures that is followed by the hosting of mineral deposits and the exploration and extraction of lucrative, usable products that improve the health of global economies Includes new content on minerals and petrology in extraterrestrial environments and case studies on hazards in the mining industry

Book Methods of Soil Analysis Physical and mineralogical methods

Download or read book Methods of Soil Analysis Physical and mineralogical methods written by Arnold Klute and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page 1260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The latest installment in the well-received Methods of Soil Analysis series, Methods of Soil Analysis. Part 5. Mineralogical Methods, presents valuable techniques that will enable researchers to analyze mineralogy for a wide variety of applications. An understanding of mineralogical composition provides crucial insight into the fundamental behavior of soils and their response to environmental conditions and management. Highlights include extensive coverage of new techniques, such as X-ray absorption and diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, and updated chapters on thermal analysis and selective dissolution methodologies. Each chapter provides the basic principles of the method, guides the reader through the method itself, and finally assists in the interpretation and analysis of results collected.

Book Soil Physical Methods for Estimating Recharge Part 3

Download or read book Soil Physical Methods for Estimating Recharge Part 3 written by W Bond and published by CSIRO PUBLISHING. This book was released on 1998-03-01 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Measurements in and just below the plant root zone, using principles of soil physics, can be used to estimate recharge. This booklet describes the Zero Flux Plane Method, Methods Based on Darchy's law, and Lysimetry for making such estimates. The work presents the basic concepts of soil water physics that will be referred to in this and other booklets in the series. Another method, the Soil Water Flux Meter, is discussed briefly, but as this is not sufficiently well developed for routine use readers are referred elsewhere for full details. All these methods require that consideration be given to interpolation over time and spatial extrapolation or averaging. A brief discussion of this is given.
