Book Wastewater Resource Recovery and Biological Methods

Download or read book Wastewater Resource Recovery and Biological Methods written by Pardeep Singh and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-11-21 with total page 389 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is unique in highlighting the issue of wastewater as one of the important environmental issues. The uniqueness also lies in exploring the concepts of converting waste into resources in the form of bioenergy, biofertilizers through various biological methods. Given the international scenario, the chapters of this book are designed to include both anaerobic and aerobic methods of resource recovery from the industrial wastewater. The book is a step toward design with nature and the concept of green chemistry. Waste menace is one of the most voiced and unsolved problems in the entire world. The whole world is facing the threat of water pollution, soil pollution/ land pollution, odour pollution from the growing waste. Though we find many missions and programs at international, national, and regional level to solve the waste associated issues, this is mostly in context with the solid fraction of the waste. Very little is being done to manage the liquid part of the waste or what we call the wastewater. The conversion of wastewater has the potential to be converted to energy in the form bioenergy, bio-fertilizers, electricity, nutrient recovery, etc. The use of sludge as biofertilizers solves the problem of sludge management on the one hand and production of organic crops on the other. The biological treatment methods like sludge treatment gives the farmers the source of biofertilizers and organic manure for the plants. In the present scenario, energy crisis is also one of the issues that we are facing particularly in context with the thermal power plants which are environmentally highly polluting. Through various techniques like microbial fuel cells or biohydrogen, we get a source of cleaner energy. So, through this book, we try to produce the content and information to give the audience an understanding of the waste water as one of the environmental and health issues and mitigation strategies. The book gives a sufficient understanding of how waste can be turned into a resource.

Book Micro algae Next generation Feedstock for Biorefineries

Download or read book Micro algae Next generation Feedstock for Biorefineries written by Pradeep Verma and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-06-22 with total page 259 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edited book provides an account of past, present, and future constraints in microalgae-based biorefineries, emphasizing cultivation and refining processes. The book offers an insight into the recent advancements in the technologies and methods developed microalgae-based biorefinery for bioenergy and biochemicals production. The fast depletion of fossil fuels has forced researchers to move out of reliance on fossil fuels for the industrial and energy sector’s needs. Due to its rich protein and lipid content, microalgal biomass has been considered one of the suitable substrates for the biorefinery. Microalgal production and harvesting for biofuel and chemicals is a tedious task. Several technological advances have been observed in this area, thus systematically checking the viability of technology at laboratory scale and then moving to large scale production, harvesting, extraction, processing, and characterization is the main focus of the book. This book is equally beneficial for researchers and engineers in biomass-based biorefineries or the bachelors, master, or young budding graduate students as a textbook.

Book Ecotechnologies for Wastewater Treatment Impacting the Environment with Innovation in Wastewater Treatment

Download or read book Ecotechnologies for Wastewater Treatment Impacting the Environment with Innovation in Wastewater Treatment written by Manuela Antonelli and published by IWA Publishing. This book was released on 2023-01-15 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Acknowledging that resource efficiency as well as ecosystem protection are crucial goals to tackle has led to a deep rethinking in the way wastewater has been dealt with up to the 20th century. Indeed, pollution reduction to harmless levels has been the main focus of conventional wastewater treatment plants which have deployed effective and reliable solutions to get rid of suspended and dissolved pollutants. Nowadays, those same wastewaters are looked at as a mine of valuable resources that are to be harvested from the sewage through efficient technologies operated within water and resource recovery facilities (formerly known as wastewater treatment plants). Rethinking the way we deal with wastewater has become the new challenge and a key tool to implement the Circular Economy Action Plan, to address numerous UN Sustainable Development Goals, as well as to provide support tools to improve resilience to environmental and global threats, including climate change, water and food security, epidemic outbreaks and political instability. To tackle these challenging goals, new technologies as well as multidisciplinary tools are needed to pave the way toward a new water-economy, including: innovative technologies, integrated and risk-based approaches, and adequate regulatory and economic guidelines to promote technological uptake and societal acceptance. In Focus – a book series that showcases the latest accomplishments in water research. Each book focuses on a specialist area with papers from top experts in the field. It aims to be a vehicle for in-depth understanding and inspire further conversations in the sector.
