Book Hold Still

Download or read book Hold Still written by Sally Mann and published by Little, Brown. This book was released on 2015-05-12 with total page 553 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This National Book Award finalist is a revealing and beautifully written memoir and family history from acclaimed photographer Sally Mann. In this groundbreaking book, a unique interplay of narrative and image, Mann's preoccupation with family, race, mortality, and the storied landscape of the American South are revealed as almost genetically predetermined, written into her DNA by the family history that precedes her. Sorting through boxes of family papers and yellowed photographs she finds more than she bargained for: "deceit and scandal, alcohol, domestic abuse, car crashes, bogeymen, clandestine affairs, dearly loved and disputed family land . . . racial complications, vast sums of money made and lost, the return of the prodigal son, and maybe even bloody murder." In lyrical prose and startlingly revealing photographs, she crafts a totally original form of personal history that has the page-turning drama of a great novel but is firmly rooted in the fertile soil of her own life.

Book Young Adults

Download or read book Young Adults written by Adolfo Escat and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2021-11-21 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Young Adults. Street Photography is a photographic artistic book about young adults across Europe. This is a refreshing collection of youth images. It is part of a trilogy: 1- Childhood. 2- Young Adults and 3- Adults and Old Age. It contains 240 unusual photographs of young adults engaging on all kinds of sport and intellectual activities, street artists, buskers, graffiti portraying young people, and even mannequins. The images have an artistic intention. They are not simple snapshots of everyday life but life in unusual context captured and treated with an artistic intention. This collection is also a sociologic document of the beginning of the 21st century. The pictures have been taken in cities like Lisbon, Dublin, Liverpool, Cracow and Lodz in Poland, Paris, London, Berlin, Charleroi and Liège in Belgium, Leipzig and Chemnitz in Germany, Belfast, Strasbourg in France, Kells, Letterkenny, Dundalk and Cork in Ireland, among others. The name of the city appears under each picture. For example, in the city of Lisbon, when a young person dies in a popular neighborhood, an artist sometimes paints a graffiti image in the same neighborhood. This is a fascinating activity that conveys some legendary status to the deceased person. You will see some examples of these stunning graffiti of deceased young people. By including them here, I want to preserve the faces of these young people for as long as possible. There are some images of special tombstones of young people as well. I take the view that it was intended to leave a monument behind for all visitors to see it. These tombstones are a celebration of the deceased person and also a reminder of how fragile life can be. I think that the best possible tribute I can make is to include them next to the pictures of the living young people. Whenever it is possible, I provide information about the models. Most of them are totally unknown to me as I approach them on the street. I speak to them and I add some information about who they are without giving names. This information is useful to interpret the images and it sometimes provides for surprises, as it challenges our prejudices or pre-conceptions at to who the person really is. Images can be deceptive!. The images are presented in color and in black and white using different filters. I hope that you will appreciate the effort made and that you will enjoy contemplating them. The author. 2021.
