Book Photography and Its Applications Classic Reprint

Download or read book Photography and Its Applications Classic Reprint written by William Gamble and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-23 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Photography and Its Applications The object'of the author in writing the present book has been not to provide a guide or text book for those desiring to practise the art of photography, but rather to givein a popular manner an outline of its operations for the reader who seeks to know something about photography, without necessarily wanting to practise it. We believe there are many people who like to acquire knowledge of a subject simply for the sake of knowing in a general way How it's done. It is for such people we have written this book, and we have endeavoured to divest it of detailed technicalities. The task has not been an easy one, and it would have been much less troublesome for the author to proceed on the usual lines of describing the processes with the completeness necessary to lenable them to be worked from the instructions given. That would have meant a much larger book, for which probably there is no real need, as there are so many excellent treatises on the subject already published. The author has endeavoured to carry out the aim of the publishers of this series, and it the book should fall into the hands of some who are already well up in the subject, and who may consider there is little that is new in it, let them remember that there are many people who, not having had their advan tage, may find such a book as this interesting and possibly useful. Book The Advance of Photography

Download or read book The Advance of Photography written by A. E. Garrett and published by . This book was released on 2015-08-04 with total page 480 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Advance of Photography: Its History and Modern Applications Nearly forty years have now elapsed since the first edition of Vogel's "Chemistry of Light and Photograph" was issued, and no revision has been made of that work since 1883. During the last thirty years the science of photography has developed with very rapid strides. The perfection of the dry plate, the introduction of orthochromatic photography, and the scientific investigation of the many problems confronting the practical photographer have been landmarks in that progress. Then, again, much interest has centred round the application of photography for recording results obtained in various branches of scientific research; while the advent of Rontgen-ray photography, the transmission of photographs from place to place by electrical means (photo-telegraphy), and the improvements made in the photography and projection of photographs of moving objects, have opened up new fields of interest for workers in this science. On the other hand, Vogel's "Chemistry of Light and Photography" is still considered a classic with respect to those branches of the subject with which it deals. Thus, although the present book is of necessity practically a new work, it is based upon the lines laid down in the original publication. Book Practical Cinematography

Download or read book Practical Cinematography written by Frederick A. Talbot and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-19 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Practical Cinematography: And Its Applications This volume has been written with the express purpose of assisting the amateur - the term is used in its broadest sense as a distinction from the salaried, attached professional worker - who is attracted towards cinematography. It is not a technical treatise, but is written in such a manner as to enable the tyro to grasp the fundamental principles of the art, and the apparatus employed in its many varied applications. While it is assumed that the reader has practised ordinary snap-shot and still-life work, and thus is familiar with the elements of photo graphy, yet the subject is set forth in such a manner as to enable one who never has attempted photography to take moving-pictures. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Handbook of Photography The literature on photography abounds with books devoted to the elementary or purely artistic phases of the subject. Few books are devoted to the serious aspects of the technique of the photographic process or to the scientific basis underlying photography and its applications, and most of these treat only of some restricted branch of photography. This Handbook of Photography was born of the desire of the editors to possess fer their own use a comprehensive, authoritative reference work on photography and its technical and scientific applications - a reference text having the directness; rigor, and authority Which might be found, for example, in the various engineering handbooks. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Book of Photography: Practical, Theoretic, and Applied The book OF photography has been prepared at the request of many readers of my smaller books on the subject who have expressed a wish for a comprehensive treatise, My own practice in Photography dates back to the time when the operator prepared each plate for his own use; first by a tedious process of cleaning the glass, next by dexterously flooding it with collodion, and finally by sensitising it in a bath of silver nitrate. My first photographs, some of which I still possess, were taken with apparatus wholly my own construction, which served its purpose quite satisfactorily for many years. Book Spark Photography and Its Application to Some Problems in Ballistics Classic Reprint

This book was released on 2018-05-06 with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Spark Photography and Its Application to Some Problems in Ballistics Spark photography in which the illumination is provided by an electric spark of such short duration that a moving object appears stationary has many applications in the investigation of high-speed phenomena. The record obtained is not an image, no lens being used, but is simply the silhouette of objects between the light source and the photographic plate. Reference to previous work along similar lines will be made later in this paper. Two distinct problems are presented in the photography of moving objects. One of these is the timing of the spark so that the desired epoch of the phenomenon under investigation may be photographed, and the other has to do with the duration of the spark. All of the photographs described in this paper were taken on plates not larger than 8 by 10 inches. A projectile moving at a speed of it./sec. Would be in front of such a plate, and, therefore, in a position to be photographed for only second. If the projectile is to be photo graphed within an inch of a predetermined position, the time of occurrence of the spark must be correlated with the position of the projectile to within second. Download or read book Practical Pictorial Photography Vol 1 written by A. Horsley Hinton and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-03 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Practical Pictorial Photography, Vol. 1: Illustrated; Practical Instructions in the Application of Photography to Artistic Ends N ow I submit that if by a representation of any object or objects I wish to convey to others my impression of such objects or conditions, or to, as it were, interpret them in the manner they impressed me - not, mark you, to show what those objects and conditions were really like, but the ideas they prompted in me - then I shall probably do it best by a general outline, or by the portrayal of the chief items only, perhaps simultaneously exaggerating and distorting some what in order to serve my end; but I shall omit the details, partly because their introduction would not help the matter and partly because if the impression made upon me by the original scene was a very powerful one, then most probably I should have been unconscious of and be blind to petty details, my mind being pre-occupied by the force of the general effect. It is not a question of what the eye sees or might see detail was doubtless there if we stopped to look at it, and still more of it might have been discoverable had we sought longer and moreover, to the mind of a man without much imaginative faculty, who is not easily or greatly moved by effects which might thrill the sensibilities of another, but one who instinctively rather investigates and analyses, details would perhaps strike and impress him before the general effect which had so absorbed and, so to speak, dazzled the other. Old ocean has been compelled to disclose to photo graphy its long hidden secrets And the scholar is now enabled, by its magical aid, to decipher at home in his own studio the time-worn hieroglyphics upon the Egyptian monuments. Even the moon has been vain enough to sit for a full and three-quarter face likeness. Lending to the scientific photographer its own Silvery light for its accomplishment. Book Photography Made Easy Classic Reprint

Download or read book Photography Made Easy Classic Reprint written by Roger Child Bayley and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-26 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Photography Made Easy For more than twenty years it has been my daily task to reply to enquiries made by amateur photographers, the majority of them beginners, each morning's post bring ing from half a dozen upwards. No one could do this for long without knowing fairly accurately what it is which the novice wishes to know, or ought to know; and, in writing this book, the questions put to me have been constantly in mind. If the directions given in some cases seem needlessly explicit, I ask any reader who is impatient, to believe that there are other would-be photographers who have found less explicit instructions puzzling to them. Mere verbiage I hate as much as anyone but experience shows that brevity is often bought at the expense of clearness. And that it is very difficult to write even so little as a single sentence of practical instruction in photography which anyone with no previous knowledge whatever of the subject is able to under stand fully. Most of the book is limited strictly to practical photo graphy; but the two chapters on how a lens works have been included because, although they do not come strictly under that heading, they may indirectly help the user of a lens to understand its principles, and to apply that know ledge in his work. So many seem to think the working of a lens a very difficult thing to grasp, and ask questions which a careful reading of those two chapters should make quite unnecessary. Those who do not feel tempted to go into the subject can pass them over and keep to the strictly practical side of the subject. It only remains to add that, while the book has been founded upon the Lessons for Beginners, which have been a weekly feature in The Amateur Photographer and Photo graphy for the last ten years, it is not an exact reprint of any of them, but has been gathered from many, and revised and modified to give it its present form.
