This book has focused on day-trip hikes that can be accomplished by the average hiker although several longer or more difficult hikes are provided for those up to the challenge. A few of the hikes are merely slot canyon tours where you are dropped off at the entrance to the slot canyon. Some of the canyons are accessible by paved road, but most of the canyon trailheads are accessible by unpaved roads with a few suitable for low clearance vehicles. The very remote canyons will require a 4 wheel-drive jeep and a highly skilled driver to get to the trailhead.The book is organized for hikes in four regions: San Rafael Swell, Escalante River, Paria River and Page Area. The author has hiked many slot canyons in search of the best and provides detailed accounts in blogs and trip reports for some of them. There are 32 featured canyons in this book in four separate regions. Some of the canyons have multiple access points making for several different routes to hike. The San Rafael Swell region includes Little Wild Horse Canyon, Bell Canyon, and Wild Horse Creek Trail. The Escalante Regions includes Dry Fork of Coyote Gulch, Peek-A-Boo, Spooky and Brimstone Gulch plus Big Horn and Zebra Canyon. The Paria Region includes Buckskin Gulch, Bull Valley Gorge and Willis Creek.
