Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The United States Geological Survey (USGS) is a scientific organization created in 1879, and is part of the U.S. government. Their scientists explore our environment and ecosystems, to determine the natural dangers we are facing. The agency has over 10,000 employees that collect, monitor, and analyze data so that they have a better understanding of our problems. The USGS is dedicated to provide reliable, investigated information to enhance and protect our quality of life. This is one of their bulletins.

Book Photogeology and Regional Mapping

Download or read book Photogeology and Regional Mapping written by J. A. E. Allum and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Photogeology and Regional Mapping covers the geological interpretation of aerial photographs, the compilation of the interpretations on to maps, the use of aerial photographs in the field, and the use of aerial photography for the production of the final geological map. This book is organized into 10 chapters and starts with an introduction to the aerial photograph. The subsequent chapters deal with the properties of the aerial photograph, including the scale, parallax and their difference. These chapters also survey the process of stereoscopy, the stereoscopic vision, pseudoscopic vision, and setting up the aerial photographs. These topics are followed by discussions on interpretation of the aerial photographs encoded into a map. Other chapters describe the production of the photogeological map and field mapping with the use of aerial photographs. The last chapters consider the compilation of the encoded aerial photographs made into maps and the photogrammetry for geologists that explains the minor control plot, detail plotting, measurement of height differences using a stereometer. This book will be of value to geologists.

Book Applied Subsurface Geological Mapping with Structural Methods

Download or read book Applied Subsurface Geological Mapping with Structural Methods written by Daniel J. Tearpock and published by Pearson Education. This book was released on 2002-08-16 with total page 1414 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Applied Subsurface Geological Mapping, With Structural Methods, 2nd Edition is the practical, up-to-the-minute guide to the use of subsurface interpretation, mapping, and structural techniques in the search for oil and gas resources. Two of the industry's leading consultants present systematic coverage of the field's key principles and newest advances, offering guidance that is valuable for both exploration and development activities, as well as for "detailed" projects in maturely developed areas. Fully updated and expanded, this edition combines extensive information from the published literature with significant material never before published. The authors introduce superior techniques for every major petroleum-related tectonic setting in the world. Coverage includes: A systematic, ten-step philosophy for subsurface interpretation and mapping The latest computer-based contouring concepts and applications Advanced manual and computer-based log correlation Integration of geophysical data into subsurface interpretations and mapping Cross-section construction: structural, stratigraphic, and problem-solving Interpretation and generation of valid fault, structure, and isochore maps New coverage of 3D seismic interpretation, from project setup through documentation Compressional and extensional structures: balancing and interpretation In-depth new coverage of strike-slip faulting and related structures Growth and correlation consistency techniques: expansion indices, Multiple Bischke Plot Analysis, vertical separation versus depth, and more Numerous field examples from around the world Whatever your role in the adventure of finding and developing oil or gas resources–as a geologist, geophysicist, engineer, technologist, manager or investor–the tools presented in this book can make you significantly more effective in your daily technical or decision-oriented activities.

Book Image Interpretation in Geology

Download or read book Image Interpretation in Geology written by S. Drury and published by Springer. This book was released on 1987-01-22 with total page 243 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is intended for geologists who are increas kinds of image data and their interpretation. The ingly required to interpret data in image form about opportunities are so great that any geologist without a basic knowledge of the possibilities is ill-equipped to the Earth's surface and subsurface. It aims to go perform as efficiently as an employer might justifiably further than a mere familiarisation with the subject, expect. and sets out to provide the background to the most advanced remotely sensed data and the kinds of Space considerations have precluded the incorpor information that can be extracted from them. Because ation of the sort of in-depth practical exercises that obtaining suitable images is becoming increasingly would be convenient and useful for many academics dependent on the interaction between geologists and trying to teach their students the practicalities of specialists in image processing, it contains a simplified remote sensing.
