Book Energy Consumption Chemical Use and Carbon Footprints of Wastewater Treatment Alternatives

Download or read book Energy Consumption Chemical Use and Carbon Footprints of Wastewater Treatment Alternatives written by Xu Wang and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-04-01 with total page 157 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis focuses on the energy, chemical and carbon implications of diverse wastewater treatment alternatives, and offers effective solutions for wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) to achieve sustainability goals. The author first uses the life cycle philosophy to explore the environmental performance of several representative wastewater treatment systems, and then proposes a refined assessment framework, accompanying analytical toolkit and case study for further quantifying the environmental sustainability of various wastewater management scenarios. Allowing readers to gain a better understanding of the existing wastewater treatment technologies from a sustainability perspective, this book helps decision makers identify promising approaches to the environmentally friendly operation of WWTPs and make infrastructure investments that are appropriate for future changing conditions.

Book Wastewater Treatment Residues as Resources for Biorefinery Products and Biofuels

Download or read book Wastewater Treatment Residues as Resources for Biorefinery Products and Biofuels written by Jose Antonio Olivares and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2019-11-21 with total page 474 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wastewater Treatment Residues as Resources for Biorefinery Products and Energy reviews wastewater treatment processes and the use of residues. The viability of end use processes for residues, such as incineration, cement additives, agricultural fertilizers, and methane production are reviewed and analyzed, as are new processes for the use of residues within a fuels production system, such as pyrolysis, hydrothermal liquefaction and syngas. Specialized chapters discuss fractionation of biomass, the production of compounds from volatile fatty acids that conceptually proceed from the anaerobic acidogenesis of residues, and a final analysis of the overall productivity and viability that can be expected from these production schemes. Discusses processes for the production of high value-added products and energy development from sludge Provides value-added technologies for resource utilization in wastewater systems Outlines sustainability assessments and comparisons of technologies and processes

Book Clean Energy and Resource Recovery

Download or read book Clean Energy and Resource Recovery written by Vinay Kumar Tyagi and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2021-11-10 with total page 484 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Clean Energy and Resource Recovery: Wastewater Treatment Plants as Bio-refineries, Volume 2, summarizes the fundamentals of various treatment modes applied to the recovery of energy and value-added products from wastewater treatment plants. The book addresses the production of biofuel, heat, and electricity, chemicals, feed, and other products from municipal wastewater, industrial wastewater, and sludge. It intends to provide the readers an account of up-to-date information on the recovery of biofuels and other value-added products using conventional and advanced technological developments. The book starts with identifying the key problems of the sectors and then provides solutions to them with step-by-step guidance on the implementation of processes and procedures. Titles compiled in this book further explore related issues like the safe disposal of leftovers, from a local to global scale. Finally, the book sheds light on how wastewater treatment facilities reduce stress on energy systems, decrease air and water pollution, build resiliency, and drive local economic activity. As a compliment to Volume 1: Biomass Waste Based Biorefineries, Clean Energy and Resource Recovery, Volume 2: Wastewater Treatment Plants as Bio-refineries is a comprehensive reference on all aspects of energy and resource recovery from wastewater. The book is going to be a handy reference tool for energy researchers, environmental scientists, and civil, chemical, and municipal engineers interested in waste-to-energy. Offers a comprehensive overview of the fundamental treatments and methods used in the recovery of energy and value-added products from wastewater Identifies solutions to key problems related to wastewater to energy/resource recovery through conventional and advanced technologies and explore the alternatives Provides step-by-step guidance on procedures and calculations from practical field data Includes successful case studies from both developing and developed countries

Book Comorbidities in Chronic Kidney Disease CKD

Download or read book Comorbidities in Chronic Kidney Disease CKD written by Joachim Jankowski and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2021-03-02 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With a mean worldwide prevalence of 13%, chronic kidney disease imposes a massive health burden on our society. In addition to reduced kidney function, patients with chronic kidney disease increasingly suffer from cardiovascular diseases affecting the heart and vasculature. Cardiovascular diseases account for around half of the deaths of patients with advanced chronic kidney disease. However, therapeutic options are highly insufficient. The pathological mechanisms that underlie increased cardiovascular risk in patients with chronic kidney disease remain largely unknown. This Special Issue provides insights into comorbidities in CKD patients, mainly focused on increased cardiovascular risk, and summarizes current knowledge of underlying pathophysiological mechanisms.
