Download or read book Phytochemistry An in silico and in vitro Update written by Shashank Kumar and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-06-25 with total page 575 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Phytochemistry is the branch of science that deals with the study of plant-derived chemicals or compounds, which are also known as phytochemicals or plant-derived secondary metabolites. Plants are known to produce phytochemicals that are essential for their growth and reproduction, as they protect them from insects, pathogens, and herbivores. Some of the major groups of plant-derived secondary metabolites are phenolics, flavonoids, terpenoids, alkaloids, tannin etc. Plant-derived phytochemicals are pharmacologically active and have the potential to cure various human diseases and disorders. Natural plant products have been known for their medicinal properties for untold years, and form the basis of several medicinal systems such as Chinese, Unani, and Ayurvedic Medicine. This book offers an essential introduction to phytochemicals and their synthetic analogues. It discusses various in silico approaches used to identify pharmacologically active phytochemicals and their biological activities, as well as in vitro and in vivo models/assays that have been utilized for the pharmacological profiling of plant-derived products to combat cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and neurological disorders. The intended audience includes upper-level undergraduate and graduate students; researchers and scientists from the pharmaceutical/food chemistry/nutrition sciences/biochemistry, and clinical biochemistry fields; and medical students. Sharing the latest findings, the book will familiarize these readers with the concepts, chemistry, and tremendous potential of phytochemistry.

Download or read book Striatal Signaling Two Decades of Progress written by Emmanuel Valjent and published by Frontiers E-books. This book was released on with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Research Topic aims to highlight and cover recent understanding on striatal signaling pathways, which are activated by a variety of therapeutic agents or drugs of abuse in physiological and pathological context. The recent development of different mouse models allowing the identification of specific cell types and neuronal circuits in which a given signaling pathway is activated in various physiological and pathological conditions provides essential information and allowed to untangle the complexity of study signal transduction in the brain in vivo.
Download or read book Chemical Proteomics written by Gerard Drewes and published by Humana Press. This book was released on 2011-11-08 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The multidisciplinary science of chemical proteomics studies how small molecules of synthetic or natural origin bind to proteins and modulate their function. In Chemical Proteomics: Methods and Protocols, expert researchers in the field provide key techniques to investigate chemical proteomics focusing on analytical strategies, how probes are generated, techniques for the discovery of small molecule targets and the probing of target function, and small molecule ligand and drug discovery. Written in the highly successful Methods in Molecular BiologyTM series format, chapters include introductions to their respective topics, lists of the necessary materials and reagents, step-by-step, readily reproducible laboratory protocols, and key tips on troubleshooting and avoiding known pitfalls. Authoritative and practical, Chemical Proteomics : Methods and Protocols seeks to provide methodologies that will contribute to a wider application of chemical proteomics methods in biochemical and cell biological laboratories.
Download or read book Cyanobacteria written by A.K. Mishra and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2018-11-30 with total page 544 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cyanobacteria constitute the most widely distributed group of photosynthetic prokaryotes found in almost all realms of the earth and play an important role in Earth's nitrogen and carbon cycle. The gradual transformation from reducing atmosphere to oxidizing atmosphere was a turning point in the evolutionary history of the earth and made conditions for present life forms possible. Cyanobacteria: From Basic Science to Applications is the first reference volume that comprehensively discusses all aspects of cyanobacteria, including the diverse mechanisms of cyanobacteria for the advancement of cyanobacterial abilities, towards higher biofuel productivity, enhanced tolerance to environmental stress and bioactive compounds and potential for biofertilizers. - Describes cyanobacterial diversity, stress biology, and biotechnological aspects of cyanobacteria - Explores the global importance of cyanobacteria - Provides a broad compilation of research that deals with cyanobacterial stress responses in both controlled laboratory conditions as well as in their natural environment

Download or read book Protein Phosphatases and Stress Management in Plants written by Girdhar K. Pandey and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-09-26 with total page 387 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The regulation of the phosphorylation/dephosphorylation process, resulting in “cellular switches” that monitor normal plant physiology, growth and development, has immense potential in crop systems. With much of the information in the nascent stages, coming largely from Arabidopsis and rice particularly, the use of cell biology, genetic screens, biochemical approaches aided by an omics approach should help unravel the detail functional information available about signaling pathways in plants. The regulation could be exploited to develop crop varieties better equipped to handle changing environments and enhance agricultural productivity. In the post-genomic era, one of the major challenges is investigation and understanding of multiple genes and gene families regulating a particular physiological and developmental aspect of plant life cycle. One of the important physiological processes is regulation of stress response, which leads to adaptation or adjustment in response to adverse stimuli. With the holistic understanding of the signaling pathways involving phosphatases, one gene family or multiple genes or gene families, plant biologist can lay a foundation for designing and generating future crops, which can withstand the higher degree of environmental stresses. Especially abiotic stresses, which are the major cause of crop loss throughout the world without losing crop yield and productivity. This book incorporates the contributions from leading plant biologists in the field of stress-mediated dephosphorylation by phosphatases as an important task to elucidate the aspects of stress signaling by functional genomic approaches.
