The essays in this book amply demonstrate that he was a man of many parts but as the allusion to his mystical experiences in his book The Realm of Between reveals, he was also more than the sum of his parts; that while willing to transcend the limits of reason when required. Thus ‘revelation and reason’ characterize not just the title of one of his famous books but in a sense, his life, and this fact renders this collection uniquely relevant for our times. The railway line, which connects Kalkota and Chennai on the East Coast o f India, passes through the Tenali town, which is the nearest railway station to Sangam Jagarlamudi. Etemologically, Satchidananda Murty means 'the form of truth, reality and bliss.' It is the other name for Omniscient, Omnipotent and Omnipresent God, Brahman described in the Upanishads. In the childhood of Satchidananda Murty, it is learned that his father and grandparents used to call him affectionately 'Devudiah ' or 4Devudu' (God) and his friends 'Anandam ' (joy). 1 Satchidananda Murty has been given primary education at his residence.
