Book Philosophical dialogues with my friend Pi

Download or read book Philosophical dialogues with my friend Pi written by SERGI CASTILLO LAPEIRA and published by Edicions Etma. This book was released on 2024-03-03 with total page 309 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The "Philosophical Dialogues with my Friend Pi" are an intellectual experiment, with which the author wanted to carry out an incursion into the field of artificial intelligence, to try to elucidate what the current limits of this technology are, and find out to what extent point a machine can emulate one of the most outstanding characteristics of the human condition: the ability to reason from a philosophical point of view. Throughout these pages, therefore, the reader will find a great diversity of topics and questions that have been part of philosophical work for more than 2,500 years, many of which remain without a convincing answer. It can be said, without a doubt, that the performance of artificial intelligence for this task has been surprisingly good, which leads the author to think that artificial intelligence is being improved day by day, so that, in the very near future, there will be very few areas of human reality that will not be improved by this technology. We can only hope that this improvement will contribute to filling the gaps and difficulties that human beings have faced since they appeared on this planet.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Classics were core to the curriculum and ethos of the intensely homosocial Victorian and Edwardian public schools, yet ancient homosexuality and erotic pedagogy were problematic to the educational establishment, which expurgated classical texts with sexual content. This volume analyses the intimate and uncomfortable nexus between the Classics, sex, and education primarily through the figure of the schoolmaster Philip Gillespie Bainbrigge (1890-1918), whose clandestine writings not only explore homoerotic desires but also offer insightful comments on Classical education. Now a marginalized figure, Bainbrigge's surviving works - a verse drama entitled Achilles in Scyros featuring a cross-dressing Achilles and a Chorus of lesbian schoolgirls, and a Latin dialogue between schoolboys - vividly demonstrate the queer potential of Classics and are marked by a celebration of the pleasures of sex and a refusal to apologize for homoerotic desire. Reprinted here in their entirety, they are accompanied by chapters setting them in their social and literary context, including their parallels with the writings of Bainbrigge's contemporaries and near contemporaries, such as John Addington Symonds, E. M. Forster, and A. E. Housman. What emerges is a provocative new perspective on the history of sexuality and the place of the Classics within that history, which demonstrates that a highly queer version of Classics was possible in private contexts.

Download or read book Studies in the philosophy of Herbert Hochberg written by Erwin Tegtmeier and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2013-05-02 with total page 251 pages. He disputed with almost all leading analytical philosophers, from Quine, Goodman and Wilfrid Sellars to David Lewis and David Armstrong. His point of view is ontological and he harks back to the origins of analytical philosophy where he finds unknown precursors of current views. And he finds parallels to contemporary non-analytic philosophies. In his own ontology he tries to dispense with simple particulars.

Book Historical Dictionary of Wittgenstein s Philosophy

Download or read book Historical Dictionary of Wittgenstein s Philosophy written by Duncan Richter and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2014-04-04 with total page 317 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ludwig Wittgenstein was the most influential, and arguably the greatest, philosopher of the twentieth century. This fact about his influence is not only a matter of how much he influenced people but also of how many people he influenced. His early work was taken up by some of the pioneers of analytical philosophy. His later work helped spawn another movement within analytic philosophy, that of ordinary language philosophy (sometimes called Oxford philosophy). He is also considered by some to be a key postmodern thinker, and an interest in his work is a distinguishing feature of many post-analytical philosophers who seek to bridge the gap between analytical and so-called continental philosophy. This second edition of Historical Dictionary of Wittgenstein's Philosophy covers the history of this philosophy through a chronology, an introductory essay, and an extensive bibliography. The dictionary section has over 300 cross-referenced entries on every aspect of his work. This book is an excellent access point for students, researchers, and anyone wanting to know more about Wittgenstein’s philosophy.

Book Shattered Pictures of Places and Cities in George Santayana s Autobiography

Download or read book Shattered Pictures of Places and Cities in George Santayana s Autobiography written by Graziella Fantini and published by Universitat de València. This book was released on 2009 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book I Want to Be Left Behind

Download or read book I Want to Be Left Behind written by Brenda Peterson and published by Da Capo Press. This book was released on 2010-02-02 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Brenda Peterson's unusual memoir, fundamentalism meets deep ecology. The author's childhood in the high Sierra with her forest ranger father led her to embrace the entire natural world, while her Southern Baptist relatives prepared eagerly and busily to leave this world. Peterson survived fierce "sword drill" competitions demanding total recall of the Scriptures and awkward dinner table questions ("Will Rapture take the cat, too?") only to find that environmentalists with prophecies of doom can also be Endtimers. Peterson paints such a hilarious, loving portrait of each world that the reader, too, may want to be Left Behind.
