Book Philip Farkas His Horn

Download or read book Philip Farkas His Horn written by Nancy Jordan Fako and published by . This book was released on 1998-01-01 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The contributions of Philip Farkas in the fields of symphonic horn playing, pedagogy, and instrument design are of such importance that he will certainly be considered a major figure of the twentieth century. As a horn player, he was the only person ever to be offered the solo horn position in each of the "big five" American orchestras (Boston Symphony Orchestra, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Cleveland Orchestra, New York Philharmonic, Philadelphia Orchestra). His first book, The Art of French Horn Playing (Summy-Birchard Music, 1956) is considered the "bible" of horn players and is still a best seller in its field. The Art of Brass Playing (Wind Music, 1962, written in collaboration with the present author) and The Art of Musicianship (Wind Music, 1976) widened his exposure to encompass the entire music profession. The horn he designed with the Frank Holton Company in 1957 immediately established itself as the top-selling American-made horn, a position it continues to hold forty years later. This biography contains a wealth of previously unavailable correspondence, technical material, and photographs. It is a "must" for all horn players and music lovers. - Publisher.

  • Author : Jasper Rees
  • Publisher : Harper Collins
  • Release : 2009-10-06
  • ISBN : 0061979716
  • Pages : 444 pages

Download or read book A Devil to Play written by Jasper Rees and published by Harper Collins. This book was released on 2009-10-06 with total page 444 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the days before his fortieth birthday, London-based journalist Jasper Rees trades his pen for a French horn that has been gathering dust in the attic for more than twenty-two years, and, on a lark, plays it at the annual festival of the British Horn Society. Despite an embarrassingly poor performance, the experience inspires Rees to embark on a daunting, bizarre, and ultimately winning journey: to return to the festival in one year's time and play a Mozart concerto—solo—to a large paying audience. A Devil to Play is the true story of an unlikely midlife crisis spent conquering sixteen feet of wrapped brass tubing widely regarded as the most difficult instrument to master, as well as the most treacherous to play in public. It is the history of man's first musical instrument, a compelling journey that moves from the walls of Jericho to Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, from the hunting fields of France to the heart of Hollywood. And it is the account of one man's mounting musical obsession, told with pitch-perfect wit and an undeniable charm—an endearing, inspiring tale of perseverance and achievement, relayed masterfully, one side-splittingly off-key note at a time.

Book The Reinhardt Routines by Donald S Reinhardt

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At last, an organized regimen of Reinhardt routines presented in a manner that builds every aspect of your playing: range, endurance, sound, technique, shakes, breathing, articulation, key fluency, tonguing, slurring, multiple tonguing, consistency . . . it's all here. For years people have been asking for a collection of Reinhardt routines that would work without the benefit of studying with Reinhardt. Most dedicated Reinhardt students know that's a tall order, because you can't just turn a player loose with many of the Reinhardt routines ? every routine had a specific purpose and was assigned at a specific time. Reinhardt knew there was no ?one size fits all? way of teaching brass players. But thanks to Dave Sheetz and Rich Willey, a set of routines has been laid out, about half of which are based on his never-before-published revisions to his Manual of Studies. These comprise a rotating Nine Day plan followed by a series of Supplemental Routines (including Reinhardt's now-famous Warm Up #57), all of which players will benefit from simply by reading the instructions and playing the drills accordingly. The Reinhardt Routines'a total embouchure development plan has what it takes to develop that embouchure you've been dreaming of. It's all laid out for you right here, at last.Forty-four pages, printed on high quality paper, GBC comb-bound with heavy (10 ml.) mylar protective covers.
