Book excerpt: The Indiana bat, Myotis sodalis, is classified by the Department of Interior as an endangered species. In developing a plan that will enable the recovery of the bat from its endangered predicament, an extensive search was made for literature concerning the species. This compilation is intended as an aid to biologists and conservationists interested in the animal and its habitats; it is hoped the bibliography will serve as a directory to available information and assist in research efforts on the animal. An attempt has been made to include reports and papers dealing with all aspects of the species, and, therefore, a number of papers included that have not been published. Each numbered item in the bibliography has been read and its contents indexed and cross referenced by subject.

This book was released on 2010-04-05 with total page 386 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A component in the America's Energy Future study, Electricity from Renewable Resources examines the technical potential for electric power generation with alternative sources such as wind, solar-photovoltaic, geothermal, solar-thermal, hydroelectric, and other renewable sources. The book focuses on those renewable sources that show the most promise for initial commercial deployment within 10 years and will lead to a substantial impact on the U.S. energy system. A quantitative characterization of technologies, this book lays out expectations of costs, performance, and impacts, as well as barriers and research and development needs. In addition to a principal focus on renewable energy technologies for power generation, the book addresses the challenges of incorporating such technologies into the power grid, as well as potential improvements in the national electricity grid that could enable better and more extensive utilization of wind, solar-thermal, solar photovoltaics, and other renewable technologies.

Download or read book The Archaeology Of West And Northwest Mesoamerica written by Michael S Foster and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-09-06 with total page 399 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on recent archaeological surveys and excavations, the chapters in this volume provide current, comprehensive, area-by-area summaries of the region's Precolumbian past. Research in the last two decades has indicated that the evolution and adaptations of the indigenous cultures of the region parallel those found elsewhere in Mesoamerica, from the simple Formative groups to the complex states of the North. The topics discussed in the book--areal and cultural syntheses and specific problems such as chronology, social organization, and economic systems--present much new information crucial to the understanding of cultural variations in Mesoamerica.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of a series of more than 20 volumes resulting from the World Archaeological Congress, September 1986, which brought together archaeologists and anthropologists from many parts of the world, academics from contingent disciplines, and non-academics from a wide range of cultural backgrounds. This book considers prehistoric and more recent manifestations of human hunting behaviour, with a general emphasis on communal hunting. It demonstrates that the combination of archaeological, ethnographic and ethnohistorical approaches provides a researched basis for consideration of the topic on worldwide, regional, and local scales. It includes theoretical and methodological issues, within a context of enquiry, original data presentation, and discussion. It is of interest to archaeologists, anthropologists and ethnohistorians.

Download or read book First Inhabitants of Arizona and the Southwest written by Byron Cummings and published by . This book was released on 1953 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From dust jacket: "Such a monumental work as this could have been done only by Dr. Byron Cummings, dean of all Southwestern Archaeologists. Between the covers of the book are the fascinating facts and colorful lore of the prehistoric Southwest. It is a study of the entire area in time and space of the peoples here from before the Christian era to the coming of the Spaniards in 1540. Too, it is the sum total of a vigorous lifetime of 93 years of a robust scholar and teacher beloved by all the tribes of the Southwest named 'Natani Yazzi' Little Captain - by the Navajo. For the casual reader there is the intensely interesting story of how the Indians lived, what they ate, and wore, and made; how they hunted, lived, died and were buried; the gods they worshipped, the homes they built. The illustrations, and Dr. Cumming's graphic word pictures breathe life even into skeletons. The book comes from the author's deep knowledge and warm understanding of men of all races and all times. It should be on every bookshelf. It is as fascinating as it is factual."
