Book Cultural Resources Literature Review and Reconnaissance Stranger and Tonganoxie Creeks Kansas

Download or read book Cultural Resources Literature Review and Reconnaissance Stranger and Tonganoxie Creeks Kansas written by Michael J. McNerney and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A literature and records search and reconnaissance level investigation for cultural resources in four selected areas along portions of Stranger and Tonganoxie Creeks is presented. The study area is within Atchison and Leavenworth Counties, Kansas, and is limited to an area a half mile in width on each side of the creeks. The four reconnaissance areas include 403 acres. Eighteen archaeological sites were identified; none are within the reconnaissance areas. A total of twenty-five architectural/structural sites is reported, including three urban zones of potential significance, eight individual buildings, two farmsteads, eleven bridges, and one highway. A literature and records review did not reveal National Register properties within the study area. An intensive survey of areas having higher elevations along Stranger and Tonganoxie Creeks and which may be impacted is recommended. A survey and assessment of the Linwood, Tonganoxie and Easton zones of potential significance which would be impacted is recommended. Documentation of the farmsteads in the Highway 92 reconnaissance area for inclusion in the Kansas Statewide Historic Inventory is recommended. Other structures outside the reconnaissance area which may be impacted should be surveyed and assessed. (Author).
