Book Pharmacy Workforce Support Personnel

Download or read book Pharmacy Workforce Support Personnel written by Shane P. Desselle and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2020-12-10 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides research and commentary on pharmacy technicians. It demonstrates how the re-design of pharmacy workflow to incorporate more responsibilities for technicians will free up pharmacist time to provide direct patient care. It also highlights that doing so can be accomplished without compromising—and often even improving upon—patient safety. The book also sheds light on employer needs and on new paradigms in pharmacy technician certification, education, and training. However, it also demonstrates the need for improvements in this area, as well as improvements in pharmacy technician quality of work life, advancement opportunities, and wages. Taken together, the papers in this book demonstrate how the results of recent studies help pave the road for the continued evolution of pharmacy care and the optimal deployment of pharmacy workforce personnel.

Book excerpt: The Institute of Medicine study Crossing the Quality Chasm (2001) recommended that an interdisciplinary summit be held to further reform of health professions education in order to enhance quality and patient safety. Health Professions Education: A Bridge to Quality is the follow up to that summit, held in June 2002, where 150 participants across disciplines and occupations developed ideas about how to integrate a core set of competencies into health professions education. These core competencies include patient-centered care, interdisciplinary teams, evidence-based practice, quality improvement, and informatics. This book recommends a mix of approaches to health education improvement, including those related to oversight processes, the training environment, research, public reporting, and leadership. Educators, administrators, and health professionals can use this book to help achieve an approach to education that better prepares clinicians to meet both the needs of patients and the requirements of a changing health care system.

This book was released on 2002-12-19 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In response to a request from the Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services, the Institute of Medicine convened a committee to identify possible demonstration projects that might be implemented in 2003, with the hope of yielding models for broader health system reform within a few years. The committee is recommending a substantial portfolio of demonstration projects, including chronic care and primary care demonstrations, information and communications technology infrastructure demonstrations, health insurance coverage demonstrations, and liability demonstrations. As a set, the demonstrations address key aspects of the health care delivery system and the financing and legal environment in which health care is provided. The launching of a carefully crafted set of demonstrations is viewed as a way to initiate a "building block" approach to health system change.

Book Learning from Innovation in Pharmacy Education

Download or read book Learning from Innovation in Pharmacy Education written by and published by Damaris Publishing. This book was released on 2007 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The education of a future pharmacy workforce and continuing education for registered pharmacists across all sectors is vital if this health care profession is to develop to meet increasingly challenging future requirements. Furthermore, and more importantly, education in pharmacy must underpin the professions ability to meet the needs and expectations of patients and the public in delivering accessible and expert services. The RPSGB Research Strategy 2001-2006 identified the Society's need to explore the content and delivery of pharmacy education. As part of the review process a Pharmacy Education R&D Reference group was set up in 2002 with the specific remit to identify and prioritise the pharmacy education agenda. In 2004 the group produced a summary report which identified that while several schools of pharmacy had been involved in innovation in education provision, on the whole the learning from these developments was not shared by pharmacy academics. As such there was an identified need to both undertake research on developments in pharmacy education, and to ensure that the research findings were shared among schools of pharmacy and academia more generally. In response to this need to develop a learning and reflective culture throughout the professions via the medium of pharmacy education, the Pharmacy Practice Research Trust commissioned, on behalf of the Society, a series of small-scale studies designed to encourage pharmacy academics to evaluate and explore innovative aspects of pharmacy education"--Foreword.
