Book Antihypertensive Agents

Download or read book Antihypertensive Agents written by Edward L. Englehardt and published by . This book was released on 1976 with total page 110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the past quarter of a century, there has been a continuing trend by the clinician to use antihypertensive therapy in patients with less and less severe hypertensive disease. This has led to a need for agents that are effective in milder degrees of hypertension and substantially free from side effects that might reduce compliance of the patient with the therapeutic regimen. The four papers that comprise this volume provide a concise overview of the current status of antihypertensive agents in use or in the later stages of development in 1975. The development of new agents to permit better control of blood pressure while restoring normal hemodynamics with minimal side effects presents a continuing challenge to the medicinal chemist. Doubtless improved agents that fall into the pharmacological classes now recognized will be developed. The complexity of the interplay of neural and renal factors involved in the control of blood pressure gives hope that other points for therapeutic intervention will be found as our basic knowledge of the pathophysiology of hypertensive vascular disease increases. - from the preface.

Book Antihypertensive Drugs

Download or read book Antihypertensive Drugs written by Zweten and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1997-09-05 with total page 558 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Twenty US and European contributors from academia and pharmaceutical companies present a tripartite discussion of the short but impressive history of drug treatment of essential hypertension, focusing on: medicinal chemistry, pharmacology, and the clinical picture. Each successive generation of drugs (e.g. beta-blockers, calcium antagonists, and ACE-inhibitors) permits more precise tailoring to individual patient needs, as well as further elucidating the pathophysiology of the disease. Those interested in integrative medicine will appreciate the paper on treating hypertension in the elderly and diabetics, which refers to non-drug lifestyle approaches to lowering blood pressure. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Piperidine-Based Drug Discovery outlines the complexities of Piperidine scaffold use in drug discovery, including derivative chemistry, structural properties, methods of synthesis and practical implementations. Piperidine scaffolds are the cornerstones of over 70 commercialized drugs (including multiple blockbusters). Designed as a guide for both experts and students working in this and related areas, it is hoped that this volume will encourage and inspire the continued design and development of novel pharmaceuticals based on Piperidine and its derivatives. Heterocyclic compounds are of central importance to medicinal chemistry, as demonstrated by the high percentage of marketable drugs that feature heterocyclic fragments in their structures. As starting points for drug discovery they offer a broad range of attractive properties, and a detailed understanding of the particular characteristics of each is of great benefit to researchers. The most commonly used heterocycle among US FDA approved pharmaceuticals, Piperidine is an extremely important building block in the synthesis of medicinal agents. This heterocycle and its derivatives exhibit a number of important functionalities and have been employed variously as CNS modulators, antiaggregants, anticoagulants, antihistamines, anti-cancer drugs and analgesics. Explores this extremely important heterocycle to a high level of detail Describes synthesis methods for 70 current drugs based on Piperidine scaffolds Gives drug designers all the key knowledge required to develop new drugs utilizing Piperidine Provides pharmacologists a solid overview of the chemical background of existing Piperidine-based drugs
