Book Disability Diversity and Inclusive Education in Haiti

Download or read book Disability Diversity and Inclusive Education in Haiti written by Rochambeau Lainy and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2022-12-27 with total page 261 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines disability, diversity, and schooling exclusion in Haiti in the wake of Hurricane Matthew. Defending a social and anthropological conception of disability as a consequence of any situation that makes a subject uncomfortable and unable to live or act properly, the book explores the difficulties that disabled children face within the school system and considers how social exclusion provokes and exacerbates educational exclusion. With contributions from linguists, educational sociologists, educational psychologists, educators, and historians, the chapters focus on a range of phenomena such as the balance of languages used for teaching, gender equity, associated disorders, and the experiences of left-handed and deaf students. Ultimately, the authors demonstrate how the educational relationships built and practiced in school influence the perceptions of people with disabilities, with respect to both singular contexts and pedagogical practices. As such, it represents an important study of the relationship between school exclusion, disability, and those with precarious socio-familial conditions, and how they can be conceptualized and addressed in the context of crises. It will appeal to scholars, researchers, and academics with interests in diversity and inclusive education, pedagogy, crisis education, and educational psychology. Chapters 1, 3, 7, and 8 of this book are available for free in PDF format as Open Access from the individual product page at www.routledge.com. They have been made available under a Creative Commons Attribution-Non Commercial-No Derivatives 4.0 license.

Book Peut on lutter contre l chec scolaire

Download or read book Peut on lutter contre l chec scolaire written by Marcel Crahay and published by De Boeck Supérieur. This book was released on 2007-01-19 with total page 390 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Affective Education in Europe

Download or read book Affective Education in Europe written by Peter Lang and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 1998-08-01 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Affective education can be defined as that part of the educational process which concerns itself with the attitudes, feelings, beliefs and emotions of students. Central to the concept is the acknowledgement that student's feelings about themselves as learners and about their academic subjects can be at least as influential as their actual ability. This collection features the work of contributors from countries such as Belgium, Denmark, Russia, Germany, Israel, Spain and the UK. It shows how the practical approach to affective education varies from nation to nation. By analyzing the underlying theory, this text sets out to bring the different approaches closer together, to enable teachers across the continent to work towards a positive common ground.

Book Guide to Policies for the Well being of All in Pluralist Societies

Download or read book Guide to Policies for the Well being of All in Pluralist Societies written by Council of Europe and published by Council of Europe. This book was released on 2010-01-01 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This guide offers theoretical and practical tools for an innovative approach to a key political issue: how, along with our immigrant fellow-citizens, can we build a fair and plural society that ensures the well-being or all? By moving beyond rigid categories like "foreigner", "immigrant" and "illegal, and ambiguous concepts like "identity", "diversity, "immigration control and "integration", this guide suggests that policy makers, civil servants and citizens need to question their own vocabulary if they are to grasp the complexity and uniqueness or people's migration paths. Perceiving migrants simply from the host country's point or view - the security, well-being and life-style of its nationals - has limitations. We cannot see people of foreign origin only as a threat or a resource to be exploited. If we see them as stereotypes, we are seeing only a mirror of European fears and contradictory aspirations. This guide helps readers decode and address the structural problems of our society, looking at the accusations made against migrants And The utilitarian view or the advantages that immigrants bring to host societies. In publishing this guide, The Council or Europe is seeking to initiate an in-depth debate on the migration issue, which is so high on the European political agenda

Book Education Law and Policy in an Urban Society

Download or read book Education Law and Policy in an Urban Society written by Piet Akkermans and published by Kluwer Law International B.V.. This book was released on 1999-05-27 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Just how fascinating the discussion between the disciplines of education law and education policy can be was apparent at the ‘Annual Congress of the European Education Law and Policy Association (ELA) in Rotterdam in December 1997. Although, on this occasion, the option was for an education policy subject, a multidisciplinary approach is always to be preferred. Policy-makers interrogate lawyers; lawyers question scientists from other fields of study and lines of practice. It was, at the same time, a further illustration of how inspiring and productive - in the context of the European Union at any rate - comparative analyses can be for national and international education and social policy. The theme of the 1997 Congress and consequently of this Yearbook, was urban education policy and its legal form as the touchstone of the modern interpretation of individual and social rights. This collection of thought-provoking essays and country reports thus centres on the question: what challenges for education do urban associations represent?

Book Exclusionary Rationalities in Brazilian Schooling

Download or read book Exclusionary Rationalities in Brazilian Schooling written by Natália Gil and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-06-23 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Through in-depth socio-historical analysis of discourses and processes of quantification around school performance and student failure rates in Brazil, this volume highlights the prevalence of Eurocentric colonized thought that results in the persistence of exclusion bottlenecks; different trajectories according to gender, race, and class; and significant regional variations in the rates of failure and dropout, among other problems. Focusing on processes performed between 1918 and 2012, this book offers rich analysis of historiographic sources including journals, newspapers, and administrative documentation to trace the development of initiatives intended to promote the democratization of Brazilian schooling. An examination of reforms including school classification, the graduated school model, admissions examinations, and automatic promotion reveal a school system that mirrors wider societal injustices and guarantees academic success for only a minority of students. Bringing a nuanced and elaborated historical perspective of the pragmatics of the selective classificatory logic in different institutional and epistemic qualities of the school organization of children and the reasoning about abilities and achievement, this book will appeal to scholars and researchers with interests in curriculum and assessment, the sociology of education, and the history of education.
